The Goose step was actually the ancient "Passo Romano " Roman step of the ancient Romans. As illustrated in their bass relief sculpture. It was only supposed to be possible for the fit and healthy and so acted as a brake on unfit soldiery. It was resurrected by Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell following the English civil war. The nursery rhyme "goosey goosey gander"


Goosey, goosey gander
where shall i wander?
upstairs, downstairs
in my ladies chamber
there I found an old man
who wouldn't say his prayers
so i took him by the left leg
and threw him down the stairs


allluding to Cromwells men hunting down catholics and royalists and giving them what for.


i'd say in the modern day the North Koreans do it best.
