This is a clear example of how the system is being manipulated by those seeking to gain asylum through dubious means.

The case of Abdul Ezedi, an Afghan national who was granted asylum after being baptized, is a disturbing example of how the system can be exploited by those with malicious intentions. Ezedi, who had twice been refused asylum by the Home Office and was considered a danger to society, went on to attack a woman with a chemical substance in Clapham, south London, before his body was found in the River Thames. This tragic incident highlights the need for a thorough overhaul of the asylum system, which is being abused on an industrial scale. As Philp rightly pointed out, "The Government should immediately stop accepting all conversions in the UK as a basis for granting asylum... It is being abused on an industrial scale and this madness has to end, and vicars who sign off obviously should be prosecuted for assisting immigration fraud."

The Church of England's current guidance to clergy, which admits that some migrants believe "converting to Christianity will help their asylum claim," is a tacit acknowledgement of the problem. However, the Church's denial of claims that it is operating a "conveyor belt" of baptisms rings hollow, given the evidence of widespread abuse of the system.
