So what exactly took place on that Friday night — and who was to blame for the disturbance? That is now the subject of a police investigation.

People on the Left and in the Government were quick to blame the far-Right for what happened in Kirkby.

The Guardian newspaper declared: 'Far-Right protesters clash with police at Merseyside hotel housing asylum seekers.'

The Independent quoted Clare Moseley — a refugee rights activist and founder of the Care4Calais charity, who arrived there that evening — as saying that the riot had been inspired by the Right-wing.

Refugee Action chief executive Tim Naor Hilton wrote on Twitter: 'If you're part of a baying mob outside a hotel where refugees live then you are far-Right, even if you don't like being called this.'

Greater Manchester Communists — no strangers to noisy protests themselves — also put out a message proudly saying its 'comrades' had been in Merseyside 'opposing a far-Right demonstration'.

Stand up to Racism, a group frequently linked to the Socialist Workers' Party, declared in a tweet the same evening: 'Events in Liverpool tonight are the bitter fruits of scapegoating refugees, giving space to racists and the far-Right.'

The BBC held back from describing the protests as far-Right, since there is little solid evidence yet NO EVIDENCE that they were. Instead, they (FAKE NEWS) reported that the nature of the protest had 'yet to be established'.

But amid the sea of confusion, one thing is abundantly clear: large numbers of ordinary Kirkby residents felt sufficiently strongly about the migrant hotel to stage a peaceful protest — one which was joined later by agitators from THE EXTREME LEFT, who were only interested in violence.

From Nigel Farage: One lady I met in the local pound shop, a grandmother, told me:

'They call us bigots in Westminster after dumping their problems on us.

'We see the migrants come in here, very nicely dressed, while we're scratching around to buy chocolate for our grandkids.'

This weekend after thousands of pro-refugee campaigners from all over the country descended on Liverpool, just eight miles down the road. In attendance was former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who declared to rousing cheers from his supporters at a hastily arranged rally in the city: 'We will not let the far-Right divide us.'

The fact is that Kirkby is unlikely to prove Britain's last migrant-related protest by disgruntled local people.

In Rotherham, South Yorkshire, anti-immigration demonstrators protested outside a Holiday Inn on Saturday, and, amid skirmishes with the police, were met by a counter-protest from pro-migration groups and trade unionists. And it is not just happening in deprived areas.

Next week, the folk of Skegness, on the Lincolnshire coast, plan to hold a peaceful demonstration over the hundreds of young male Afghans, Iraqis and Iranians who have been sent there by the Home Office to live for free in five hotels near the beach.

In a worrying sign, the far-Right group Patriotic Alternative (which has said it was not in Kirkby) has announced it will be there to 'remind Skegness councillors that they serve the British people and not economic migrants coming to our land illegally'.
