Independent MP Monique Ryan intervened after a punch was thrown as far-right agitators gatecrashed a political forum in Melbourne's south-east.

Locals were hearing from their Kooyong candidates — Ryan, Clive Crosby from Labor and Jackie Carter from the Greens — speak about the state of the media at Kew Library yesterday evening, when three men entered the room.

Video shows one of the men, identified as Matt Trihey from the National Workers Alliance, yelling about immigration and crime and demanding that the candidates address the issues
"We're just here to ask about immigration and crime," he could be heard saying.

The National Workers Alliance is a self-described "nationalist organisation for the preservation of Western culture and identity".

Trihey denies that he is a neo-Nazi but was once a member of Thomas Sewell's white nationalist group the Lad's Society.

Trihey is seen in the video continuing to shout and ignore the people trying to move him along as members of the crowd begin to appear frustrated.

A woman stood up, letting out the first of several screams, and a man shouted at Trihey to "get out".

"Who do you think you are coming in here? Get out," he said.

Ryan told ABC Melbourne Radio today that what seemed to distress the audiencewas that the men began shouting about rape.

"It was all a bit incoherent, but it was threatening, and it was really unfortunate because many members of the audience were a little bit older and really taken aback by the events, and clearly a bit threatened by them," she said.
A woman then confronted Trihey and threw a punch.

Another woman and Ryan quickly intervened and pulled her back.

"She was a little lady, pretty frail, and he was not a small man, and I was really concerned about that and their potential for that to escalate," Ryan told ABC Melbourne Radio.

"I went away and just firmly moved her away and asked another member of the audience to look after her."

The men were finally forced out of the building, but seemed to taunt the civic-minded members of the public.

"Have a wonderful day, yeah," Trihey said.

"I hope I haven't spoiled your evening, guys. I just want answers on who's going to act on crime."

Victoria Police were called to the library about 6.30pm.

"Officers spoke to the men and at this stage no further complaints have been made to police. The investigation is ongoing," police said.

9news.com.au has contacted Ryan,Crosby and Carter for comment.

Indian immigrants in the Victorian city of Ballarat are calling for the Punjabi language to be taught in government schools so their children feel more accepted

Raman Preet Kaur told ABC News said she has felt forced to change her daughter Guribadat's Punjabi name to Ebu after she started kindergarten because no-one could pronounce it, making her feel "lost".

"It was hard – she didn't know if people were talking to her, so we had to change her name to something easy to pronounce," Ms Kaur said, adding that if Punjabi was being taught in schools then teachers may have been able to pronounce her original name.

Ramman Marupur, who moved to regional centre in 2018, has since launched a free school teaching Punjabi to 20 students, called The Rootz Punjabi School, which now has a branch in Geelong.

One of her Geelong teachers, Preet Khinda, said public schools should teach children to "respect each and every culture's languages".

"Our kids feel awkward when they speak our language in a shopping centre," Ms Khinda said.

"I think people should accept all those things, like cultural identity."

Ms Marupur previously told The Courier that her language should be taught in schools across the state.

"My daughter is learning Japanese in school at the moment so if she goes to Japan she'll be able to speak with the locals there," she said.

"It's the same with Punjabi, if someone wants to learn the language, and learning any new language is always good, it will help them lots if they go to Punjab."

At the time of the 2021 Census there were 764 Punjabi speakers in Ballarat out of a population of 113,763 – making it the second most common language used at home other than English. 968 residents spoke Mandarin, 466 spoke Malayalam, 387 spoke Hindi, and 233 spoke Urdu.

The audacity! Curry cash cows want everyone to change to suit them! If they want to be Indian there is a place called India for that!

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14751905/China-Australia-port-Darwin-Albanese.html

China's ambassador to Australia has warned threatened the Albanese government against its trying to forcibly take back control of the strategically significant Port of Darwin - calling it 'ethically questionable

Ambassador Xiao Qian, who visited the port last week, published a statement on the Chinese Embassy's website on Sunday saying the leasing arrangement delivered strong economic and social opportunities to the region.

'Such an enterprise and project deserves encouragement, not punishment,' he said.

'It is ethically questionable to lease the port when it was unprofitable and then seek to reclaim it once it becomes profitable'.

Security expert and Strategic Analysis Australia founder Michael Shoebridge told Daily Mail Australia the port will be the first major foreign policy test in the Albanese government's second term - one neither he, nor Australia, can afford to get wrong.

'The Ambassador raising the port so quickly after the election shows he's acting on instructions from Beijing. Beijing doesn't want Darwin port out of the Chinese company's control and able to be used to support Australia's security,' he said.

Was the dumbest thing to offer the Chinks this from the start! There is no such thing as a "Chinese company." Everything is controlled by the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the Chinese Communist Party.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14791141/Young-Aussie-regional-cost-living.html

A young woman struggling with the cost-of-living crisis has revealed how moving to the country for a cheaper lifestyle has backfired as there are no jobs available
Larissa, 28, said her conception of a hardworking but comfortable life had been shattered by the current economic conditions.

She said in a TikTok video life was tough for those in their 20s and 30s and she often wondered 'what is the point?'

She said many young Australians had been sold the idea they could go to university, get a degree and get a good job before being set for life.

'And that job is meant to pay for a house and maybe a holiday once a year, and maybe you'd have some kids,' she said.

'And that's like not happening now and you're kind of just like, what's the actual point of anything?'

Larissa said she thought, by her age, she might have 'a three-bedroom house' and be 'thinking about kids and maybe be successful' in her career.

The disgruntled Aussie was interrupted by a sound in the background of the video, saying it came from her landlord's grandchildren because she lived in a 'tiny studio'.
'And no, I don't live in Melbourne or Sydney. I moved regional to try and save money and there's no jobs out here,' she clarified.

'Anyway, it's kind of just made me reassess my whole life. Like what am I doing? Should I just go travelling?

'I'm the type of person to plan everything but I'm just kind of feeling like f*** it. Do I just do what makes me happy?'

More than 3,000 social media users weighed in, many saying they felt similar impulses.

'We have a doctor and lawyer in the family and they can't afford houses in Sydney where they work,' one commiserated.

'(I'm) in my 30's, I'm the highest paid person in my extended family, minimal debt, in secure employment and it's miserable,' another said.

'I still cant buy a house – local or regional – so we're using money to travel and see the world.'

'That's exactly where we are at. We are miserable in Australia at the moment,' a third wrote.

'I'm 27 with a degree and living in a studio too, working full time and just spent my Sunday morning on Seek applying for weekend work,' one woman agreed.

'Median wage is $75,000 average rent is over $700 a week. The country is cooked,' another added, quoting Sydney unit rental averages.

Another added simply, 'Australia is broken'.

'It's a mince meat, cask wine future,' another joked.

Others, however, offered some harsher advice.

'I'm mid 40s. I felt like that in my 20s. It's called being in your 20s,' one wrote.

'"Should I just go travelling?" There's your problem,' another said.

The Govt cares not for you white girl! You're being displaced and replaced by "Chindia" !

Yes what is the point of anything if you can't afford shít?! If you are 28 and you don't have at least $60k to get a house deposit well ... Chindia does! Maybe you are better off constantly travelling, seeing the world, working odd jobs then coming home, cry "poor" get government Housing, go to food bank and collect recycling?!

Want to go try NZ?! More of a struggle there!

Almost 600,000 immigrants arrived in Australia in 2024 – one every 53 seconds

https://www.noticer.news/australia-immigration-2024-arrivals

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed on Thursday that Australia's population grew to 27.4 million by December 31, 2024, an increase of 1.7% and 445,900 people more than the same time in 2023.

Last year's overseas migration intake of 594,900 was only lower than 2023's 751,500 and 2022's 619,600, but departures were also up 22% year-on-year with 254,200 people emigrating from Australia. The ABS did not released nationality breakdowns for either arrivals or departures.

Net overseas migration, a measure criticised by population experts as "fictitious", was 340,800 for the year, significantly lower than 2023's 547,300 and a decrease from 2022's 387,000, but higher than Labor's 2024-2025 financial year migration forecast of 335,000.

The natural population increase in 2024 was 105,200, up 1.9% from in 2023, with 292,400 births (up 2.6%) and 187,300 deaths (up 3.0%)  registered in 2024, meaning 77% of the year's population growth was due to immigration.

The ABS figures showed that most immigrants settled in NSW and Victoria last year, with overseas arrivals of 194,796 and 169,041 respectively.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14827083/Immigration-soars-ahead-Anthony-Albanese-despite-key-promise-migrant-surge-overwhelms-two-major-cities.html

Immigration levels are soaring under Anthony Albanese - with almost two-thirds of new arrivals moving to Sydney and Melbourne and putting pressure on housing, water and transport infrastructure.

Australia took in 340,800 migrants last year, higher than Treasury's pre-election Budget forecast of 335,000 net arrivals for the 2024-25 financial year and 76 per cent higher than the pre-pandemic intake of 194,000.

The new figures were released on Thursday, a day after Treasurer Jim Chalmers admitted Australia would struggle to build 1.2million more homes in the five years to 2029 to accommodate the population explosion.

'The 1.2million homes is a very ambitious target, deliberately so and it will be hard to get there, but it's not impossible to get there but everyone needs to do their bit,' he told the National Press Club in Canberra.

While immigration levels are down from the record-high intake of 548,800 seen two years ago, the population influx from overseas migration is overwhelmingly flowing to Australia's two biggest cities, Sydney and Melbourne - with NSW and Victoria having to house 207,233 new overseas residents.

That's more than 60 per cent of the net intake of 340,800 permanent and long-term arrivals into Australia.

Sydney has become so expensive that large numbers of the Australian-born population are moving elsewhere, with 28,118 people leaving New South Wales last year for another state, new Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed.

This exodus from NSW - while 106,730 new overseas migrants moved in - is putting pressure on other states in terms of infrastructure and services, and could potentially see the GST broadened so the states and territories have more money to spend.

Queensland took in 25,940 new residents from other states and 56,877 from overseas, leading to population growth at a slightly above-average level of 1.9 per cent.

Victoria also reported a higher population growth rate of 1.9 per cent with only 3,203 people leaving for another state as 100,503 new migrants arrived, mainly to Melbourne.

Western Australia had the strongest population growth of 2.4 per cent as 12,612 people entered from other states and 45,124 people moved in from overseas.

Australia's overall population grew by 1.7 per cent in 2024, with overseas migration making up 76 per cent of the 445,900 increase factoring in births and deaths.

Below-average population growth was recorded in New South Wales (1.3 per cent) due to a large interstate exodus, along with South Australia (1.1 per cent), Tasmania (0.3 per cent), the Australian Capital Territory (1.4 per cent) and the Northern Territory (1.2 per cent.

Chalmers on Wednesday declined to rule out broadening or increasing the 10 per cent GST so the Commonwealth Grants Commission could distribute more funds to the states and territories that have to house the soaring population.

Items like fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, cooking oil, meat and unflavoured milk were exempted from the Goods and Services Tax under a political deal reached in 1999 between former Liberal prime minister John Howard's government and the Australian Democrats in the Senate.

'What I'm going to try and do - because I know the states will have a view on it, I'm going to try not to dismiss every idea that I know that people will bring to the roundtable,' Chalmers said.

'I suspect the states will have a view about the GST - it's not a view that I've been attracted to historically but I'm going to try not to get in the process of shooting ideas between now and the roundtable.

'One of the ways that I am going to be inclusive and respectful in the lead-up to this roundtable is I suspect people will raise that question.'

More pressure on infrastructure

The big overseas influx is particularly putting pressure on utilities.

Sydney Water had proposed to increase its customers' bills by 18 per cent from October 1, under its 2025 to 2030 plan, citing population growth.

A Sydney Water board meeting last year warned of the strain on infrastructure in the city's outer suburbs, which house a higher proportion of new migrants.

'The biggest drivers behind Sydney Water's planned investments are growth and renewing existing infrastructure,' the meeting minutes said.

'Most of this investment will support growth in both new and established areas – especially in western Sydney, where development is booming and where population growth is pushing existing water and wastewater systems to their limits.

To cope with the population surge, Sydney Water had expected the average bill to rise by $226 during the next financial year, and by $111 every year until 2029-30

The price everybody else must pay for "Chindians"! Will it come to a race war between us and them over Water? Housing? Parking? There's already a war on the streets with Abos out to destroy White Lives with the state police running protection for them. We're heading into something bad!
