A Melbourne man who admitted to sexually assaulting 18 women at a well-known Prahran nightclub has been handed a community correction sentence rather than jail time. On Monday in the County Court, 35-year-old David Maria Anthony Rayan received a two-year community corrections order after pleading guilty to 17 counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted sexual assault

Rayan's offences occurred over three nights in 2023 at Revolver Upstairs, where CCTV footage showed him deliberately touching and groping guests without their consent. Victims described suddenly feeling his hand under their clothing, unwanted kisses on their shoulders and heads, and his body pressing into theirs as they tried to enjoy the venue.

Excerpt: An immigration detainee is on the run after he stabbed one Border Force officer and assaulted another while escaping from a vehicle during transportation to the airport for deportation.

The 28-year-old Tongan man was being transported from the Villawood Detention Centre to Sydney Airport for deportation, and escaped at James Ruse Drive in Clyde, at about 3.40am.

He allegedly stabbed a 54-year-old Border Force contractor multiple times in the neck and cheek. While another 36-year-old Border Force contractor was also reportedly punched during the incident.

Detective Superintendent Simon Glasser said the immigration detainee remains on the run.

Police have launched a major search operation to find the man.

Police described the attacker as being of Pacific Islander/Maori appearance, with a large build, about 180cm tall, with black hair and dark eyes.

He was unshaven and last seen wearing a black coat, black track pants and black and white sneakers.

An extensive search of the area is underway, with officers using police dogs to help track down the man.

Police have warned the public not to approach the man if spotted and to instead call Triple Zero immediately.

'If anyone has any information or sees the male, please ring Triple Zero, or contact Granville Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,' Det Supt Glasser said.

Albury - New South Wales: An Indian tech worker has been charged with the possession of child abuse and bestiality material after police swooped on his home this morning

NSW Police executed a search warrant at Lavington home at 6.20am on Friday and arrested Vikneskumar Thangaraj, 33.

The search came after State Crime Command's Child Internet Exploitation Unit (CIEU) passed on information to officers attached to Murray River Police District, who then made further inquiries.

An electronic device was seized during the search and has been taken for further examination, police said.

Thangaraj was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with possess child abuse material, person possesses bestiality material, and use carriage etc to access child abuse material.

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court later on Friday.

Thangararaj worked in IT for Spider Networking, a business in nearby Wangaratta.

His boss confirmed on Friday he had worked there on a casual basis as a 'techie'.

The man told Daily Mail Australia it was an 'absolute shocker' to receive the news as he had just processed Thangaraj's wages. If he'd known he would have kept the cash.

A man has been left in a serious condition and a shopping centre plunged into lockdown following a horror alleged stabbing and an alleged 10-person brawl

Emergency services rushed to Northland Shopping Centre, Preston, in the north of Melbourne, at 2.39pm on Sunday after receiving reports of an assault.

'Police are responding to reports of numerous people fighting at a shopping centre on Murray Road in Preston this afternoon,' a Victoria Police spokeswoman at the time.

Police have since confirmed two men were arrested. 

Paramedics treated a man in his 20s for injuries to his upper body and transported him to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.

Another ambulance crew remained on scene, a spokesman confirmed, but it is understood only one victim has been treated so far.

Several police cars and ambulances were on scene on Sunday afternoon. It is understood two opposing groups began fighting, some of whom were armed with knives.

Customers locked themselves in shops inside the centre, after shouting alerted them to the danger on Sunday afternoon.

Some reported entering the centre's Kmart, Myer and Smiggle outlets.

One customer, Jason, told Daily Mail Australia he had been shopping when 'people started running and all the shops locked their doors'.

'We stayed inside Kmart for about an hour before they finally let everyone leave.'

Online, many shared early accounts from inside the centre.

'The world is mad. Just got home from Northland! Was locked in a store room in Myer, staff were fantastic. Still shaken. Hope injured will be okay,' one wrote.

Australians are calling for mass deportations instead of a machete ban after African gang violence erupted at a shopping centre in Melbourne.

Shocking images from an alleged clash between rival gangs at Northland Shopping Centre in Preston on Sunday showed an African male wielding a large machete, and on Monday Premier Jacinta Allan said the sale of machetes would be prohibited from 12pm on Wednesday.

The state's full ban was announced in March after series of shocking alleged machete crimes, many involving African gangs, but is not due to come into effect September 1 when they will be classified as a prohibited weapon and a three-month amnesty will be put in place.

But thousands of upset Australians responded to the alleged Northland gang fight, which caused panic inside the shopping centre, by saying outlawing machetes was just a "band aid solution" and the government should deport immigrant criminals instead.

Tradie Rory O'Sullivan, 39, was woken by the intruders trying to break into his Elsternwick home in Melbourne's south-east shortly before 3.30am on May 21.

'I saw through the camera they had a machete,' he told Seven News.
