Summary: Bondi Beach, Sydney: Two Muslims attempted to kill as many Jews as possible at a Jewish Chanukah event. Jews and Muslims had previously clashed at Bondi, with Jews publicly proclaiming their ownership of Bondi. Reports tell that the shooters attempted to wave away non-Jews.

The shooters were Naveed Akram, 24, from Bonnyrigg in Sydney's southwest, and his father, aged 50, who was shot dead by police.

Akram is in hospital under police guard after being shot by officers.

A witness said, 'There's a police station less than a block from where the shooting was happening ... it's beyond my understanding as to why it took so long to handle.'

It has also since been admitted by Australia's domestic security intelligence agency, ASIO, that one of the shooters was on their radar.

However, Australia's political establishment, intelligence services and police are, as ever, obsessed with curtailing the rights of neo-Nazis and other considered Far-Right White Australians. Muslims are a welcome part of Multicultural Australia; recalcitrant White Australians are not.

At least 10 12 16 people have been killed at Bondi Beach in Sydney after two gunmen of Middle Eastern appearance opened fire at crowds gathered for a Chanukah by the Sea event.

The black-clad gunmen, one armed with a shotgun, one with a rifle, started shooting at about 6.30pm on Sunday evening as hundreds gathered for the Jewish festival, and witnesses reported hearing more than 50 shots.

At 9pm NSW Police confirmed 10 people were dead, including one of the gunmen, with the other shooter in a critical condition. 11 other people are injured, including two police officers, and Premier Chris Minns later said the death toll had risen to 12 16.

A senior law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told ABC News one of the gunmen was named Naveed Akram, and that police were raiding his home in Bonnyrigg, western Sydney.

Police say they have two men in custody after multiple people were reportedly injured Sunday in a mass shooting at Bondi Beach.

Gunmen reportedly opened fire just after 6.30pm as hundreds of Sydneysiders attended the Chanukah by the Sea event to celebrate the start of the Jewish festival

Multiple videos posted to social media show two gunmen standing on a footbridge connecting Campbell Parade to the Bondi Pavilion, firing shots into a crowd.

The men could be seen firing guns into the crowd as people screamed and sprinted for cover.

A number of people could be seen lying injured and unmoving on the grass at North Bondi.

Others were being loaded into ambulances on stretches while onlookers attempted to provide support.

There are reports of multiple casualties, but no details have been confirmed by authorities.

Separate footage showed officers standing guard over a hunting rifle lying on the ground with an exclusion zone in place.

"Two people are in police custody at Bondi Beach; however, the police operation is ongoing and we continue to urge people to avoid the area," the force said in a statement.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said 12 16 people were killed and was targeted at the event attendees during a press conference late on Sunday night.

'This attack was designed to target Sydney's Jewish community on the first day of Channukah,' he said.

Up to 25 injured people, including two police officers, have been taken to various hospitals in Sydney.

One of the gunmen who opened fire has been confirmed as Naveed Akram, 24, from Bonnyrigg in Sydney's south-west.

Akram was shot, arrested and remains in custody, where he is being treated by emergency services.

The second gunman has been shot dead.

The beach was crowded with hundreds of tourists and locals at the end of a 30C summer day.

Video obtained by the Daily Mail shows a heroic man creeping up behind one of the gunmen via the carpark at the north end of the beach, and then wrestling him to the ground.

The hero then waves a rifle in the man's face.

The gunman then walks away and the hero drops the rifle.

At this point, the first gunman is seen joining his accomplice on the bridge, where he picks up another rifle. The pair take cover behind the bridge wall and fire their weapons outward.

Two members of the public, including the man who initially tackled the shooter, attempt to take cover behind a tree. The bystander who disarmed the gunman is later seen with a visible injury to his arm. He walks away holding it before collapsing.

So why did these guys target Jews?

Not an ideal situation, but a typical escalation of one of the most bitter racial conflicts — that between the Jews and the Arabs, after the former nurtured and shaped the latter as a weapon against us centuries ago. But now the tables are turned and the two are viciously engaged.

Whatever purposes the shooters were trying to achieve are undoubtedly in the rubbish heap; just like the ambitions of most modern terrorists who think acts of random terror do anything but backfire.
