THOUSANDS of dollars worth of property has been damaged during a crime spree across the Top End. 
 
Eight homes were broken into in Farrar, Durack, Stuart Park, and Malak with five cars and a scooter stolen from Stuart Park across the weekend and early this morning.(All Darwin Suburbs)

At Parap, resident Sarah De Lemos was unable to drive to work or drop her two-year-old son Christiano to daycare because of dangerous glass shards in and around her Mazda 3.

It was one of 11 cars smashed in the locked underground carpark of her unit building. About a fifth of the residents had a car damaged.

"My biggest fear is one of us will walk in on this with my two-year-old when this is happening," Ms De Lemos, 27, said.

"Three or four weeks ago the same thing happened. I'm insured but it's cheaper (in the long run) to replace it myself.

"I'm a single working mother and I can't afford to keep forking out every three or four weeks."

Ms De Lemos, a human resources worker, said she had been lobbying the body corporate to install security cameras.

The replacement window will cost her about $320.

"I've seen one security guard walk around here once," she said.

"People are saying it's our responsibility but it's a secure complex.

Body corporate Whittles did not return calls.

A MAN was whacked with a didgeridoo in Darwin early yesterday morning. 
 
The 59-year-old suffered lacerations to his arm and head and was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident happened at 5.45am near Lindsay St in Darwin­.

Police are looking for witnesses who saw an Aboriginal male described as having long black hair, a black baseball cap and a white long-sleeve shirt.

He was last seen running towards Smith St.

The man still had not been located late yesterday

THIEVES have broken into an Airnorth plane parked in a hangar at Groote Eylandt and stolen alcohol and chips from the cabin's minibar. 
 
The security breach happened about 10pm on Wednesday night at Anindilyakwa Airport while the plane was parked in the hangar.

The incident led to a five-hour passenger delay yesterday morning as Airnorth sought a replacement aircraft.

Airnorth staff at the airport discovered it had been broken into as they were preparing for its flight to Darwin, after finding the 19-seater Brazilia plane littered with cigarette buts and empty beer cans.

Police said the offenders had stolen a quantity of alcohol and chips from the cabin stash before fleeing the scene.

The plane had been scheduled to fly to Gove to pick up 12 passengers before arriving in Darwin.

It is unsure how many passengers were leaving from Groote Eylandt but the 10am flight was delayed for several hours while a replacement aircraft was sought.

Passengers eventually boarded another plane about 3pm yesterday.

Airnorth would not comment on the security breach only to say it was a matter for police.

Last week, it was revealed that an Airnorth Embraer Jet carrying up to 32 passengers and crew was forced to land with an engine operating on reduced power.

This occurred after crew noticed a vibration from the right engine mid-flight.

The aircraft was still grounded 10 days after the incident while engine manufacturers determined the cause of the vibration.

Who knows what race they were given the geographic location?

A JEALOUS man bashed the mother of his children to death with a chunk of broken concrete because she was dancing with other men at a Christmas celebration. 
 
Sebastian Kunoth, 21, faced a maximum penalty of life behind bars for the "reckless" manslaughter of his wife.

He was drunk and stoned on cannabis.

NT Supreme Court Chief Justice Trevor Riley said: "It is apparent that the deceased was much loved.

"She is described as having been beautiful, smart and quick to learn.

"Her family is devastated by her loss and the depth of their sadness is set out eloquently in (a) Victim Impact Statement."

The victim and Kunoth's son, 4 and daughter, 3, are being raised by their grandmother.

The court heard Kunoth was convicted of three previous assaults against the woman.

They had been together four years.

A domestic violence order was in place, with conditions designed to protect her, at the time of her death.

The pair had been partying with his family when the victim began dancing with people inside a house at Abbots Camp,Abbo Camp in Alice Springs, on December 24, 2012.

Kunoth became jealous and they began to argue in the early hours of Christmas Day.

"You accept now that your feelings of jealousy were without foundation," Chief Justice Riley said.

Kunoth punched two of the men then began to pound the victim with his fists and kicked her in the back.

He dragged her out of the house and into the yard, where he smashed her over the head piece of broken concrete the size of a house brick, weighing almost 2kg, and struck her several times with a stick.

He placed the concrete brick in a tree and went to an outstation where he was arrested on Boxing Day.

The victim died from a skull fracture and brain damage three days after the attack.

The court heard Kunoth was exposed to family feuds and violence over royalty payments growing up, and had suffered grief over the death of his twin brother and suicide of an elder brother as a teenager.

He was sentenced to nine years and six months jail, with seven years non-parole.

POLICE have charged controversial Territory politician Larisa Lee with aggravated assault over an incident in Katherine. 
 
In a statement to the NT News about 4.45pm, police said Ms Lee has been charged with aggravated assault and disorderly behaviour in a public place.

She has also been served with a domestic violence order.

She will face court in Katherine on June 3.

The NT News revealed yesterday that Ms Lee was involved in a physical fight with family members outside the Centrelink office in Katherine on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, she confirmed she was involved in the altercation and said it involved several people.

"It involved multiple members of my family," she said at the time.

The NT News understands police investigated a complaint made by an 18-year-old woman.

Ms Lee has previously said that she would not go into details about the incident.

"It happens all the time in families, my family is larger than most," she said.

AS MANY as 50 prisoners at the Berrimah Prison are in lockdown after a "disturbance" forced the highly trained Immediate Action Squad into a rare show of strength. 
 
Department of Corrections spokesman David Harris said prisoners from C Block had been locked in a dining area on Friday while guards conducted a routine search of the cells.

A group of them — between 40 and 50 — then began to shout and bash on the windows, triggering a swift response from the IAS, who subdued the mob and marched the offending prisoners back to their cells.

Mr Harris played down the incident as "very minor" and "not a riot".

"It was just a group ... refusing to follow directions — they just needed to be talked to," he said.

"Cooler heads prevailed and everyone went about their business."

Justice Minister John Elferink said the matter was still under investigation.

"It was just a bit of push and shove between the fellows from Port Keats," he said.

The prisoners have been placed in lockdown, which means they are confined to their cells with limited release.

While not as seen as a major incident, Mr Harris conceded the IAS was rarely called upon in Territory prisons.

"It's not often," he said. "We don't have a history of really big issues to deal with in the prisons, but we have to have them (the IAS) on standby."

The IAS is made up of specially-trained prison guards fitted out with riot gear, but not weapons.
