Carrie Altamura is at war with the army – the Salvation Army.Until recently Ms Altamura lived peacefully in Yanyula Dr, Anula, for 20 years.
But she said that all changed the day the Salvation Army started an early morning breakfast service for the homeless directly across the road from her house.
She said her street had become a battle zone for drunken Itinerants *boongs*using the Salvation Army's premises as an overnight shelter where fighting is common and foul, abusive language was an every night occurrence.

As proof of the problem Ms Altamura has posted on her Facebook video evidence of the nightly disturbances.Ms Altamura says she has been so disappointed with the Salvation Army's response to "the problem they created" she has started a neighbourhood campaign to rally the community to end the problem.

"The homeless are now sleeping on the Salvation Army's grounds waiting for the food service and creating hell at night," she said.Ms Altamura has letterboxed more than 500 homes asking residents if "the violent behaviour coming from the Salvation Army property is bothering you""I have loved living in this area and found it a quiet and safe neighbourhood," she said.

COMMERCIAL break-ins in Darwin have surged 100 per cent in the past year, new police figures show.Monthly crime data from NT Police, released on Friday, show there were 728 commercial break-ins in Darwin between March 1 last year and February 28 this year.

That was up from 364 in the corresponding period last year.

While slight improvements have been made in the areas of assaults and motor vehicle theft, break-ins at businesses and homes continue to be a problem for the public.

House break-ins for the same period increased 32.9 per cent from 575 to 764 in Darwin.

In total, crime against property increased 9.6 per cent from 7389 to 8100 while crime against the person dropped 8.3 per cent from 2243 to 2056.
Commander Brent Warrern, who has responsibility for Darwin and Palmerston, said: "Police continue to work with businesses and residents to provide crime prevention advice and support to reduce the incidence and impact of this (break-in) offending."

"Recently, pop-up police stations have been utilised at specific locations including the Darwin City Mall, Parap, Karama, and Moulden as part of a multifaceted approach of crime prevention, awareness, engagement and enforcement," he said.

In Palmerston, house break-ins increased from 251 to 347 in the same annual period while commercial break-ins increased 17.1 per cent from 140 to 164.

Domestic violence-related assaults in Palmerston increased from 223 to 267 while alcohol-related assaults in the satellite city increased from 182 to 233 incidents.

Territory-wide, there were 7762 crimes against the person in the same annual period — down 4.3 per cent on the previous year. Crime against property, however, increased 11.4 per cent from 19,165 to 21,341 incidents.

In Alice Springs, there were 1721 crimes against the person compared to 1998 the year prior — a drop of 13.9 per cent.

POLICE hunting for a pair of predators responsible for a sex attack on a woman in Secret Harbour last week have released composite images of two men wanted for questioning.

Sex Assault Squad detectives are investigating the indecent assault on a 30-year-old woman on Thursday, April 20.

The woman was sitting on a bench in the park within La Palma Square around 6.10pm, got up about 10 minutes later and walked along the alleyway leading between Carmague Green and Sicily Green.

It was then she noticed two men standing ahead of her on the path, who forced her to the ground and indecently assaulted her in the bushes alongside the alleyway, police said.

THREE Aboriginal males accused of robbing a Nightcliff service station armed with a tyre iron are on the run from police.

The teens entered the BP service station on Progress Dr at 7.35pm on Sunday with their faces concealed by clothing.

Detective Sergeant Karl Day said the group demanded cash from staff then smashed the glass door of a fridge.

"Three unknown Aboriginal males have entered a service station and began demanding money from the console operator. One of the males has then begun damaging the store with a tyre iron," he said.

"The group has fled the scene with a small amount of cash. They were last seen running into Litchfield Court flats."Police are seeking information on three teens who robbed the Nightcliff BP service station on Sunday night.

The three males were described as indigenous in appearance. The first was wearing a white short sleeve T-shirt with a dark long sleeved shirt underneath, black shorts, a white cap, with a red bandana covering his face.

The second had black hair and was wearing a grey short sleeved shirt with black long pants and Nike thongs. He used a white shirt to cover his face,coThe third man was wearing a white shirt with a hooded jumper and a black cap, camouflage dark green and khaki coloured shorts with white toed sneakers.

He was also wearing a blue and floral patterned backpack.

Serious Crime Squad detectives are requesting public assistance to identify up to six people police believe have information on a robbery with violence incident at the Casuarina Bus Exchange on 24 April 2017.
Detective Senior Constable David Munro said a 16-year-old male was on a bus when he alleges a group of males harassed him.

"When the bus arrived at the exchange at approximately 4.45pm, the victim was set upon by the same group and his bag and phone were stolen.

YOUNG people on Elcho Island are sniffing aviation fuel as they struggle to deal with the mental scars left by consecutive natural disasters, the island's top doctor has suggested.

Cyclone Lam smashed Elcho Island in February 2015, leaving hundreds homeless. Less than two months later, Cyclone Nathan hit.


Miwatj Health chief health officer Lucas de Toca said mental scars remained in the cyclone-ravaged community.
He said instances of volatile substance abuse had risen sharply in the past year. In the past few months, children have started breaking into the airstrip to siphon fuel from aeroplanes.
"It is not a coincidence this is happening in the aftermath of Elcho being hit by two cyclones," he said.

Aviation fuel contains lead, opening up its abusers to serious long term health impacts.
Although extra mental health workers provided help to residents in the aftermath of the disasters as part of the cyclone recovery effort, the storms had still taken a toll on the collective mental health of the community, Dr de Toca said.
"I think (the mental health effort) mitigated a lot of the after effects ... but there are some elements that cannot be completely mitigated," he said. He estimated about 100 young people on Elcho and nearby communities were sniffing aviation fuel, but said the behaviour had stopped since a security guard had been stationed at the Galiwinku airport at the beginning of May.
Dr de Toca said lead toxicity could have serious health impacts, and lead to behavioural and cognitive issues.
