A WHITE WOMAN was burnt with a cigarette and punched before being robbed of cash and her watch at Ingle Farm.

She was seated at a bus stop on Bridge Rd between Montague Rd and Dirante Dr just before 3pm on Friday.

The victim managed to take this quick but blurred photo of the suspect when she was robbed at an Ingle Farm bus stop.

A man approached her and asked for a cigarette.

The woman shared her own cigarette with the man who said "that's not good enough" and butted the cigarette on the woman's thigh.

The offender grabbed her by the hair and punched her before stealing money from her wallet and the watch from her wrist.

A man driving a 4WD stopped to intervene and then left.

Police are seeking the man who stopped to help the victim, or anyone else that may have seen the incident, to please come forward and contact police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The victim managed to take a quick but blurred photo of the suspect, who is described as caucasian, about 35 years old, 190cm, tanned complexion, short brown hair in a mohawk style.

NAPLAN results show Year 3 students have shown significant improvement in literacy but indigenous students in remote and very remote locations continue to lag behind the nation.

On a whole the Territory has improved but still sits well below the rest of the country.The NAPLAN National Report 2016 released today, breaks down Year 3, 5, 7, and 9 student test results by state and territory, remoteness, indigenous status, English as first language and the occupation of parents. Year 3 students have shown the most improvement across the NT year levels in reading, spelling and grammar and punctuation.

The largest increase across all year levels was writing.

Results indicate indigenous students are struggling the most. Three quarters of Year 7 indigenous students in very remote locations did not reach minimum reading standards.

In comparison, 94.6 per cent of non-indigenous Year 7 students sit above the national minimum standard in reading.

Education Department chief executive Vicki Baylis said attendance rates, trauma, and education foundation were major factors in students not excelling.

"The more we can engage them in their learning the more we can get their families to work with us to get to school the more we'll be able to achieve," she said. Education minister Eva Lawler said there were improvements but more needed to be done.

"Remote and very remote students, particularly at Year 9 level, continue to lag behind their counterparts elsewhere in the Australia," she said.

"This is a reflection of the unique characteristics and diverse population of the Northern Territory, specifically the higher levels of socio-economic disadvantage.

Police have pleaded with the public to take care after 24 hours of carnage and violence gripped Darwin and Palmerston.

An unprovoked attack allegedly took place in Moulden at 4am, when an 18-year-old man was set upon by three teenage boys while walking through Lockwood Ct.

The boys were alleged to have tried to steal his belongings before punching him in the face several times causing head injuries.

Described as about 16-years-old and of indigenous appearance, the alleged attackers stole his watch and wallet.

One of the boys was wearing a red and yellow basketball singlet.

AN ELDERLY woman has been injured after a brazen bag snatch at a North Adelaide restaurant.

The woman was sitting at a restaurant on Childers Street just before 9pm when a man grabbed her handbag, causing her to fall to the ground
The robber then ran to a nearby car, which was confirmed to have been stolen at 3am on Monday from Modbury.
The woman suffered minor injuries.

The thief was captured on CCTV and was described as being aged in his 30s, approximately 165cm tall, skinny build and of Aboriginal appearance.
He had short dark hair and was wearing a white top and jeans.

A MAN Silly boong had his lower arm amputated after attempting to jump on to a freight train in Alice Springs.

The 25-year-old man from a community in Alice Springs tried to jump on the passing freight train at 9.25pm last night.

The NT News understands trains have a slower speed limit through the section of railway which passes Alice Springs suburb The Gap.

St Johns Ambulance spokesman Craig Garraway said the man sustained the serious injury while attempting to jump on the train.

"His lower left arm was amputated and he could lose the top half of his arm. He may be sent to Adelaide later today," he said.

The man is understood to be having surgery to try and save the top half of his arm today.

A TEENAGER was allegedly assaulted in two different incidents in Katherine just hours apart on Christmas Eve.

Senior Sergeant Mark Malogorski said the 18-year-old woman was walking along O'Shea Tce when she was allegedly assaulted just after midnight on Saturday. Her shoes and wallet were stolen in the attack.

Just a few hours later, the same woman was allegedly sexually assaulted.

]"Later that morning, between 1am and 3am, the woman was walking in the vicinity of Katherine High School when she was approached by two unknown male offenders, pushed to the ground, and sexually assaulted," Sen Sgt Malogorski said.

One of the men  BOONGS is described at 180cm tall with an athletic build wearing black jeans or pants, a black jumper with a pocket on the front, black slip on shoes and a blue or green cap with a lighter blue wave logo on the front.

The second man had short blonde or orange hair and was wearing black pants and black shoes.

Both are of indigenous appearance.
