POLICE have arrested a man Abo bastard who allegedly threw petrol at a woman at Charles Darwin University this morning.

A man was apprehended by police at Dripstone Cliffs about 10am.

A CDU staff member approached the man who according to police was allegedly sniffing petrol near the residential dorms on campus at 8.30am.

Serious Crime Detective Karl Day said as the woman turned and walked away she felt a liquid hit her on the back.

"He didn't talk and seemed a bit odd. The female then walked away. She felt a liquid hit her on the back," he said.

"She then went inside her room and shut her door and noticed a flame on the outside of the door. It appears that he has thrown petrol on her at this stage."

Det Day said the woman was unharmed.

A 15-year-old girl was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after suffering a reaction to the petrol fumes.

Police believe the man in question is not a CDU student.

TWO teenagers who "cowardly" killed a much-loved pool manager in Yuendumu last year have both been sentenced to nearly 12 years jail in the Supreme Court.

The killers have been described as "extremely callous".

Yesterday, Jason Reid, 18, and Nelson Inkamala, 19, were both sentenced to 11 years and six months for the manslaughter and robbery of their mentor Rick Berry on January 29 last year.

Inkamala received an extra 12 months for breaching a suspended sentence.

The court heard Mr Berry had taken Reid into his home and given Inkamala a part-time job at the swimming pool.

But following an altercation between Mr Berry and Reid several days earlier, the co-offenders entered Mr Berry's house after 2am to steal alcohol after a long drinking session.

When he saw Mr Berry was still awake, Reid armed himself with a shovel and struck him in the back of the head while he was in the bathroom.

Mr Berry, who had "no way of defending himself" and had his back turned, fell to the ground. The pair wrestled before Reid tried to tie Mr Berry's arms with an electrical cord as Inkamala stole cartons of beer.

Inkamala then struck Mr Berry twice to the face with a wooden garden stake as he was "kneeling on the ground in a vulnerable position".

The pair left him laying on the bathroom floor bleeding and unconscious where he later died. They then attempted to burn the house down by throwing a pile of clothes onto the stove and turning the heat on, but failed.



A television, camera, iPhone, cartons of beer and car keys were stolen, before they jumped in Mr Berry's car and drove towards Alice Springs.

"At no point was there any reason why that (stealing Mr Berry's possessions) would involve any violence, let alone the cowardly violence that each of you inflicted upon him," Justice Graham Hiley said.

"There was no suggestion of any remorse after you attacked Mr Berry, you left him lying unconscious and bleeding." A forensic pathologist found the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

"The brutal assault of a fellow human being is tragic, not only for the individual, but for many others who cared about him," Justice Hiley said.

A non-parole period of five years and nine months was ordered for Reid to be backdated to April last year. Inkamala received a non-parole period of six years and nine months.

A 33-year-old nurse was assaulted in Nhulunbuy yesterday.

The woman was sunbaking by the pool at the nurses' quarters at Gove District Hospital when a man boong approached her at 2.20pm.

NT Police Duty Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said the man climbed the fence and removed his shorts.

"He removed his pants and approached the victim, she screamed and the offender pushed her over and he ran off," he said.

The man is described as being about six feet (183cm) tall, of slim build with dark unkempt hair of medium length. He was wearing black sunglasses, a brown T-shirt with a yellow motif and brown, striped knee-length shorts.*And was probably a dirty black bastard doing a crime like this in that neck of the woods but the paper won't say*

Extract: A SINGLE mother of five suffered a broken leg when she was run over by her own car in a violent carjacking outside her Westminster home.

Police said the woman drove her white Toyota Hilux into her driveway and left the car door open as she went to open the garage door at about 2.30pm on Friday.

A light coloured 4WD stopped outside her house and a man exited the passenger side of the vehicle and climbed into her Hilux.

The woman struggled with the man and he reversed the vehicle fast, running over her leg before he drove off.

The woman's handbag and house keys, which she had left in the front seat, were also taken.

The 33-year-old mum underwent surgery on Saturday.

The man is described as aged between 20 and 30 years of age, dark skinned, approximately 175cms tall with short black hair.

Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of the Hilux or the incident was asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A 21-year-old man*native bush gorilla (coonus problematicus genus species)* has been accused of assaulting two police officers in Central Australia on Monday.

Alice Springs Acting Senior Sergeant Matt Akers said the man allegedly assaulted police after they were called out to a disturbance at a remote community.

"Police allege the offender obstructed an officer from getting out of the vehicle, causing the door to strike the officer to his knee," he said.

"Police also allege that while being restrained, the man punched another officer to the head."

An Elcho Island man*stinking boong* has been locked behind bars for a year after creeping into a woman's unlocked home and masturbating in her room as she lay in bed.

Sean Gurruwiwi found his way into the stranger's unlocked Wagaman unit, cracked a bottle of champagne and walked into her bedroom as she talked on the phone to a friend.

The NT Supreme Court heard Gurruwiwi "drank a lot of alcohol" at his sister's place on January 22, before heading across the road at 1.20am to the unit occupied by the victim.

Justice Judith Kelly recounted how Gurruwiwi entered the unit through an unlocked front door.

"You went to the fridge and took out an unopened bottle of champagne," she said.

Gurruwiwi then went back through the front door and out onto the unit's veranda, where he put the bottle on the ground and took off all his clothes.

When naked, he walked back inside and went into the victim's bedroom.

The court heard the victim was lying half naked in bed speaking to a friend on her phone when Gurruwiwi walked into the bedroom.

He took hold of his penis and began to masturbate.

"While you were doing this, you were looking at the victim and smiling," Justice Kelly said.

The victim yelled at the offender to get out, and screamed for her partner who was sleeping in the next room.

Gurruwiwi fled out into the street and hid behind a tree on the corner, before trying to escape on foot down the road.

He was chased by the victim's partner, and was eventually picked up and arrested by police, still naked.

In sentencing, Justice Kelly said, "what you did is very serious".

"That lady must have been very frightened and disgusted," she said. "This kind of unlawful entry is becoming very common ... I need to pass a sentence that will send a message to other people that if they commit this kind of offence they will be punished."

Gurruwiwi was hit with a prison sentence of three years and nine months, suspended after one year.

Tensions have flared again in Kalgoorlie after the house where the man charged with the manslaughter of 14-year-old Indigenous boy Elijah Doughty reportedly lived was burned down overnight.

Emergency services were called to the rented house at 6.30pm on Wednesday but were unable to put out the blaze. It destroyed the property, causing $250,000 worth of damage.

Western Australian police said on Thursday the fire was being treated as suspicious and the arson squad would investigate.

Doughty, a young football star, died in Gribble Creek reserve on 29 August after the motorbike he was riding was allegedly struck from behind by a 4WD ute. The driver of the ute, a 55-year-old non-Indigenous man, was later charged with manslaughter.
