THE woman who allegedly shot her ex-spouse and his mother with a revolver in a dispute over a child is expected to make a bail application next week, a court has heard.
The 38-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her child, sat in the dock at Darwin Magistrates Court facing a string of serious offences.
She has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, recklessly endangering life, two counts of causing serious harm, abducting a child, deprivation of liberty, breaking into a house with criminal intent, assault and firearms charges.

She was supported in court by at least eight family members, including her mother and partner.
The mother-of-two allegedly had an altercation with her ex-spouse's mother at a Virginia property before both women got into one car and drove down Lowther Rd.

As they drove along the road, the woman's ex-spouse was coming in the other direction before both cars stopped.    This is where the woman allegedly shot the older woman.




I read the original in the paper and an "Aboriginal Legal rights" mob were there to assist her. It just doesn't state it in this version.

DARWIN business owners say there has been a sharp increase in public drunkenness since the Government scrapped the banned drinker register.
At least four businesses in the small Fannie Bay complex, which is a known trouble hot spot, say they have noticed the change.
Chief Minister Terry Mills yesterday rejected criticism of his decision to scrap Labor's Banned Drinker Register.
He said barring nasty drunks from buying takeaway grog had not worked.
"Those with a drinking problem will always find ways to access alcohol,'' he said.
Captain Seafood Takeaway owner Tim Copping, 64, who has worked in the area for more than 20 years, said trouble had hit an all time low in the last four months of the BDR...

Education Minister Peter Chandler says more community support is needed to stop extreme student behaviour in remote Northern Territory schools.

He says $100,000 will be spent creating two new task forces, one in central Australia and one for the Top End, to fly to communities after violent incidents.
The Angurugu School on Groote Eylandt, about 630 kilometres east of Darwin, re-opened today after being closed last week, following a violent attack on a teacher.It is understood a student hit the teacher on the back of the neck with a bat.Mr Chandler says an existing code of behaviour for students, parents and the wider community has also been revised.
"I don't think that the sole responsibility for handling issues like this remains with the Education Department and it doesn't just rest with the school involved," he said."It does rest with the community, to work with the school, so that we can find some better solutions to some of the issues that are occurring."
The task forces will involve up to six people, including psychologists and a police officer, and will be flown to schools at the request of principals and the Education Department.Mr Chandler says stopping violence in schools requires people in the community to support teachers.
"This is about pulling on the bootlaces and tightening them up, and getting everyone working together on the same issues," he said.

Waste of time trying to educate these jigaboos! look at all the money we chuck at them! we are better off buying bullets and culling them and selling the corpses for fertiliser or bio-diesel to get our tax money back!

ABORIGINAL people are escaping conviction for murder in Alice Springs if the victim is of the same race and received a single wound, a politician has said.

But the NT Criminal Lawyers Association said intent to murder was difficult to prove with single, but fatal, blow and race was irrelevant.

CLP MLA Bess Price said dozens of her family members had been killed before audiences, including two at Alice Springs Town Camp this year.

"One was injured mortally in the public, in front of several families," she told the Territory Parliament on Thursday night. "Nobody acted to protect her.

"Dozens of my female relatives have been killed this way.

"Convictions usually lead to light sentences.    "I was told by a senior lawyer that no jury in Alice Springs will convict an Aboriginal person for murder if the victim is also Aboriginal and he or she is only stabbed once."

Association president Russell Goldflam said Ms Price made a "very powerful and moving speech" but said it was incorrect that juries were unlikely to convict people because they were Aboriginal.
"If you cut someone on the leg or arm with a bottle and they die the real question is whether there was intent.

"But there's a serious problem of a lack of Aboriginal representation on juries.

"So juries are often composed of people who don't have much experience or exposure to what life is like on Aboriginal communities.



(so perhaps it is better to have one law for Abbos and another law for everyone else?)




"I completely support Bess Price's call for us to focus on the need to reduce violence against women, particularly Aboriginal women.

He said Aboriginal women were 24 times more likely to be victims of abuse in Central Australia.

A 13-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy have been arrested over an alleged crime spree totalling $60,000.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the two alleged offenders unlawfully entered a residence in Nakara and stole a Toyota Avalon and Mazda Astina on 9 May.
"The two offenders have then attended the Mindil Beach Markets later that evening and allegedly stole a Holden Commodore.

"Police will allege the offenders drove the Toyota and Mazda to service stations in Coolalinga and Casuarina and stole two separate quantities of fuel on 10 May.

"The offenders allegedly unlawfully entered a residence in Alawa and stole a Mini Cooper, as well as a range of electronic items, sporting gear and alcohol on 12 May.

"All four vehicles were recovered by police after being damaged and abandoned. The youths were arrested by members from Strike Force Trident on 15 May."    They have been charged with stealing (x10), aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle (x8), drive unlicensed (x8), aggravated enter dwelling with intent (x4), unlawful damage to property (x2).

They will appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court tomorrow.

FORMER AFL player Liam Jurrah has been ordered back to Yuendumu after having been granted bail for three alleged assaults on women.
Mr Jurrah, 24, has spent at least a month in custody after his first bid for bail was abandoned. But magistrate David Bamber granted the ex-Melbourne Demons forward his freedom on the condition he live in his hometown, report to police and not drink alcohol. He is also banned from speaking with any witnesses.

Mr Jurrah has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawfully causing serious harm after he allegedly attacked three women outside a 24-hour service station in Alice Springs in March. Another man, Mathius Walker, has also been charged over the alleged incident.
