"ROCKED" taxi driver Gagandeep Singh is expected to return to Alice Springs tomorrow but it will be months before he can return to work. 
 
Mr Singh had surgery on Saturday, with bone taken from his head, and a plate inserted, to mend his jaw, broken when a rock was thrown at his taxi.

But of major concern is he is suffering from double vision and has lost peripheral vision. He is seeing a doctor in Darwin today about this.

His employer, 13 CABS, has made an insurance claim for worker's compensation to help cover his loss of earnings until he can return to work.

Meanwhile, the two Alice Springs-based taxi companies have put on a united front in discussions with police and NT Government departments to discuss measures to curb the incidents of rock throwing before someone is more seriously injured or even killed, including police conducting patrols in taxis so they are on hand when an incident occurs.

Alice Springs Taxis manager Nathan Fricker said it was a slow process but the positive was the two companies, police and relevant authorities were working together to gain a result to end the stone throwing.

He said that many drivers were reluctant to report incidents to police as to go through the necessary procedure meant the taxi could be off the road for a couple of hours, which meant loss of income.

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested over an alleged crime spree. 
 
The teen and a 38-year-old man were nabbed over for separate offences as part of NT Police's Operation Trident which targets property crime.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the 14-year-old was arrested following investigations into three unlawful entries over the past eight days.

"On the nights of March 5 and 6, two residences in the Gardens were unlawfully entered. Wallets, purses, mobile phones, iPods and keys were stolen.

"On the night of March 9 a residence, also in the Gardens, was unlawfully entered, a wallet and car keys were stolen. Subsequently, a Nissan Navara was stolen from the driveway of the unit complex.

"Police found the vehicle in Palmerston in the early hours of March 10, the 14-year-old was discovered nearby and taken into custody."

Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said the youth has been charged with three counts of unlawful entry, three counts of stealing and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on Friday, March 14.

On March 6, a licenced premise in the Darwin CBD was unlawfully entered and alcohol stolen.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said on March 10 the business owner recognised the alleged offender from CCTV vision he had downloaded for police.

"The owner has contacted police and a 38-year-old male was taken into custody a short time later.

"He has been charged with aggravated entry of a building, stealing and damage to property.

"He was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on March 26."

"We would thank the members of the public who assisted with descriptions and information that has led to the arrest of these two alleged offenders.

"The public are our eyes and ears and in many cases their information has directly led to an arrest."

POLICE are searching for a man who allegedly tried to tempt a young boy into his car at Jingili. 
 
Duty Superintendent Stephen Heyworth said it was alleged a man driving an older model red coloured ute approached a 7-year-old boy as he rode home from school on Knowles Street, Jingili shortly before 3pm yesterday.

"The boy told Police the suspicious male offered him a lift home. When the boy refused the driver had a further conversation to entice the boy, however the boy rode away," Duty Superintendent Heyworth said.

He said the driver followed the boy briefly before making a U-turn and driving off in the direction of the Jingili shops.

Police want to talk to anyone who may have seen a man in the vicinity of Knowles St between 2.30 and 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.

The man is described as tanned in appearance, skinny build with a bald head and a black moustache. He was described as wearing a white horizontal striped T-shirt with three-quarter denim shorts and thongs.

The older red coloured ute was believed to have a black coloured tarp covering the vehicle tray.

UPDATED: POLICE are searching for a man who viciously assaulted a bus driver in Southport this morning ... and it was all over a fare. 
 
The man, described as wearing no shirt, grey board shorts and carrying a black backpack was captured on camera dragging the 63-year-old driver out of the bus on to the ground and
Insp Austin commended the driver for getting up once he was being assaulted and moving towards the door so other passengers on the bus were not in the firing line.

"However, that did mean that the assault continued ... and he received further assault on the footpath," he said.

Video of the incident shows the driver being dragged on the ground outside the bus while being kicked by his attacker.

The culprit is thought to be in his late teens or early 20s, has a dark complexion, a medium build, tattoos and sports a mohawk hairstyle.

"LITTLE punks" "Little Boongs"breaking into homes, dogs being let out of yards and a suspicious doorknocker have got some Territorians' hackles up. 
 
Suburban crime may be arguably run-of-the-mill in Darwin and Palmerston but the scale of uneasiness has started to rise with "strange" incidents and house breaks leaving people­ feeling violated.

Johnston resident Tanya Thomas, 37, said she warned her neighbours to lock up their homes after a young man knocked on her front door claiming he wanted a glass of water about 8.30pm on Saturday. "It was bizarre," she said.

"I didn't open my screen but told him there was a tap around the side he was welcome to use.

"He came back not a minute later and asked if I could charge his mobile phone for him, if he handed me the phone and charger."

The mother-of-three said she checked if the man — who she said wasn't wearing a shirt and seemed puffed — had used the garden tap but the ground underneath was dry.

She said the incident was unusual and warned residents to keep their eyes peeled for suspicious behaviour.

The NT News facebook page received several reports of crime after posting a message from Moil resident Sonja.

She said her husband, housemate and dog chased off three teenagers who broke into her house on Saturday night.

"They are still on the loose ... they legged it to Moil Primary School," she wrote. "I have a yard proud dog and they still chanced it. Lock your cars and be on guard."

Another resident, Elisabeth said: "I live in Moil, right near the primary school, and my dogs were going nuts.

"My husband woke up to someone on a bike taking photos of the wheels on a car directly­ opposite our house."

Chris, of Cullen Bay, said almost­ every car door was ajar after the secure complex of 10 town houses where he lives was cased overnight on Friday.

"One house had stuff stolen from inside," he said.

"Doesn't matter if you live in a nice neighbourhood or a bad one.

"It's going to happen."

Bec Swinn, of Parap, said three kids were busted stealing her neighbours' motorbike — undeterred by a security gate — early yesterday.

Tamika Frid said: "Same thing is happening in Moulden but with them letting out dogs."

Some residents call police and patrols are sent to the area.

THOUSANDS of dollars worth of property has been damaged during a crime spree across the Top End. 
 
Eight homes were broken into in Farrar, Durack, Stuart Park, and Malak with five cars and a scooter stolen from Stuart Park across the weekend and early this morning.(All Darwin Suburbs)

At Parap, resident Sarah De Lemos was unable to drive to work or drop her two-year-old son Christiano to daycare because of dangerous glass shards in and around her Mazda 3.

It was one of 11 cars smashed in the locked underground carpark of her unit building. About a fifth of the residents had a car damaged.

"My biggest fear is one of us will walk in on this with my two-year-old when this is happening," Ms De Lemos, 27, said.

"Three or four weeks ago the same thing happened. I'm insured but it's cheaper (in the long run) to replace it myself.

"I'm a single working mother and I can't afford to keep forking out every three or four weeks."

Ms De Lemos, a human resources worker, said she had been lobbying the body corporate to install security cameras.

The replacement window will cost her about $320.

"I've seen one security guard walk around here once," she said.

"People are saying it's our responsibility but it's a secure complex.

Body corporate Whittles did not return calls.
