Uproar in India as fugitive accused rapist Punjabi politician resurfaces in Adelaide

Excerpt: Uproar has erupted in India after a Punjabi politician who fled custody while facing rape charges resurfaced in Adelaide, South Australia, with questions being asked about how he was able to leave the country.

Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly, managed to escape when police arrived at a farmhouse in Haryana to arrest him on September 2, and has been on the run ever since despite police carrying out multiple raids and issuing a "look-out notice".

Punjab Police claimed the MLA's supporters fired shots and threw stones at the arresting officers, but Pathanmajra disputes the police allegations and told Indian media he fled because he was afraid of being killed in a "fake encounter".

But last week the fugitive politician appeared in a video interview on an Australia-based Punjabi channel where he said he would only return to his home province after getting bail, The Australia Today reported.

Police are now looking into requesting Pathanmajra's extradition from Australia.

It is unclear how he managed to enter Australia despite facing serious charges and being wanted by police.

Excerpt: A "transgender" far-left extremist has avoided jail for setting off a bomb inside the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and possessing dozens more homemade explosives.

Biological male Malith Shamera Fernando, 25, was referred to as a female by Magistrate Donna Bakos as she handed him a Community Corrections Order (CCO) in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday and ordered him to pay $4,600 in compensation for the damage caused by the bomb.

Fernando set off the explosive in a male toilet block during the Land Forces Expo on September 12 last year after scoping out the private event a day earlier by using his engineering qualifications to pass security and acquire a ticket.

He was then raided by police who found 28 more homemade incendiary devices in his bedroom and bathroom, along with drugs and "protest ideology", and he pleaded guilty to criminal damage, two charges of possessing items with a purpose to use them to destroy or damage property, trafficking cannabis, and possessing ketamine, 1,4-Butanediol, and the opioid oxycontin.

On Wednesday the police prosecutor, who asked for a custodial sentence due to the severity of the bomb attack, read an additional victim impact statement from a traumatised ADF veteran who was in the toilets when Fernando set off the explosive.

The man said he "felt instant and intense fear that I was about to die a horrible death", has developed a fear of large events and crowded areas, causing him to cancel a family holiday, and feels anxiety whenever he sees protesters.

But despite calling the bombing "very serious", saying it was only by "good fortune" that the explosive self-extinguished and did not cause more damage or physical injuries, noting that the attack was planned and premeditated, and finding Fernando trafficked drugs for a year, Ms Bakos decided against sending him to jail.

She read from psychological reports stating that Fernando's mental health issues were "compounded" by "racism", but that he was making "lifechanging" progress since being diagnosed with ADHD after the bombing and put on medication.

She told the court that Fernando's "mental health diagnoses and gender status" meant that imprisonment would be more onerous for him than for a normal person, and said society would be safer if he was rehabilitated with therapy and drug programs instead of jail.

"I accept that a term of imprisonment would have a significant adverse effect on your mental health," she told Fernando, who wore a heavy-duty Covid-style face mask throughout the hearing and did not speak.

Ms Bakos imposed a 15-month CCO requiring treatment and rehabilitation for drug addiction, mental health assessment and treatment, and offender behaviour programs, all as directed by corrective services.

She also gave Fernando four months to pay the $4,600 in compensation, despite his lawyer only asking for two, and ordered the forfeiture of the explosives and drugs seized by police.

More than 300 Indian truck drivers who had their New Zealand commercial driving licences cancelled during a crackdown on fraudulent activity will be allowed to re-sit their driving tests

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) revoked 459 licences in November due to suspected use of false or altered documents while converting from foreign permits, but has now announced it is giving 335 "low risk" drivers suspensions instead, while the other 124 were deemed "high risk" and remain banned.

All of the 459 affected drivers were from India, but the licence conversions were all from third countries – 436 from the United Arab Emirates, 18 from Australia, and five from Canada – and the mass cancellations sparked complaints of unfairness and claims it would lead to a driver shortage.

"NZTA originally intended to cancel 459 commercial driver licences belonging to drivers suspected of submitting fraudulent documents when applying to convert their overseas driver licence," an NZTA spokesperson told RNZ.


"Following engagement with industry, NZTA has decided to instead suspend (rather than revoke or cancel) these drivers from operating commercially.

"We have offered 335 of these drivers the option to re-sit and pass the relevant theory and practical tests to confirm they can drive safely before considering cancellation of their licence."

The NZTA said all of the drivers given suspensions had valid overseas licences, but would be required to go through supervised testing before their commercial driving permits could be restored.

"NZTA sees this as a pragmatic approach that supports the continued operation of the commercial transport industry, while not compromising public safety," the spokesperson said.

"The remaining drivers were either cancelled due to not responding to the request for evidence of validity or are considered high risk."

The NZTA said the issue of potential fraud would be considered separately, and if proven the drivers would face penalties.

Providing false information as part of a driver's licence application is punishable with a fine of up to $750.

Hundreds of affected drivers attended a rally at a Sikh temple in Auckland last month to protest the cancellations, claiming they were either treated unfairly or had been scammed after moving to New Zealand from the UAE to work after 2022 when the borders re-opened.

Indian transport operators also complained that they could find local hires to replace the disqualified drivers, and said the crackdown had affected thousands of people and could lead to supply shortages in the lead-up to Christmas.

MELBOURNE'S Indian and Pakistani taxi drivers are being bashed and robbed by African youth gangs.

And there are fears the number of attacks reported to Victoria Police is only the tip of the iceberg.

The hot spot for inter-racial violence is Melbourne's inner north. This year between May 8 and August 2 there were 12 reported robberies on taxi drivers in Flemington, Moonee Ponds and Ascot Vale.

Police will not officially acknowledge any particular ethnic group is a target, or that any other group is carrying out the crimes.

But in every case the victims told police their attackers were African and there was always more than one. Knives are the weapon in most taxi robberies reported to police, but meat cleavers and screw drivers have also been used.

Ten of the 12 victims are from the Indian sub-continent, but police are not prepared to say Melbourne's foreign student taxi drivers have become targets…

Liberal MP Bernie Finn, whose electorate covers the danger zone, said police had to start acknowledging they had a gang problem.

What we need to do is round up the ringleaders of these gangs and send them home, Mr Finn said.

We are more than capable of producing our own thugs and thieves without importing them.

The biggest hurdle we face is that we have a chief commissioner of police who refuses to accept that gangs exist. She won't even say the word gang.

FOREIGN Minister Stephen Smith says Australia is doing all it can to prevent more attacks on Indian students.

They include two stabbings in Melbourne last week that have left one man fighting for his life in hospital.

Indian authorities believe there's a racial element at work.

Mr Smith told Network Ten the government is working with the Indian community in Australia and India as well as state authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and to ensure a safe environment for all international students.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has discussed the problem with Indian Prime Mininster Manmohan Singh.

The discussions come as more than a thousand members of Victoria's Indian population marched along Melbourne's main street to protest against the rising number of violent attacks against its community.

The protesters chanted and cheered as they marched down Swanston Street in the city centre.

Commuters had their journeys interrupted as trams were delayed while as the group made its way towards Parliament House.

The Federation of Indian Students of Australia says an increasing number of Indian students are being attacked in what it says are hate crimes.

And then there were None!

As per usual, the media and general public are going crazy accusing every second White Australian of being an evil Indian stabbing, Mexican hating racist. As much as I'd like it to be true, it's not. The Mexican in question, Sol Trujillo, is the former head of Telstra (Australian Telecom). As such, he's hated for his role as the chief of that company, not for being a Spic.

The Indians are different. They are hated simply for being Indians; yet oddly enough, it's not White Australians that hate them, it's imported Black Africans, Middle Easterners and just about every Muslim.

One might think that the Indian students are temporary visitors that we have to ensure the safety of at all costs. However, whether they are currently students or not, they are just another load of imported Australians who after their graduation from the halls of higher learning will remain in Australia as permanent residents.

So what's the problem? The problem is that along with the Indians we are importing, we are importing their own racial and religious problems into Australia. Muslims: Africans and Arabs. Even if the Africans and Arabs are Christian or atheist, they still take the side of the most militant of their racial cultures and that is the Muslim.

How do I know this? It's been happening for several years now. Each time the media and government decry the behaviour of Australian racists, but just sometimes the truth slips through.

Last year in Adelaide, there were a string of racially motivated attacks against Indian university students. The Indian community themselves declared it to be attacks from the Lebanese community.

And so we know where to lay the blame for the violence but will anything be done about it? No. To do what the Indian community wants and charge the perpetrators with a hate crime will never happen because the perpetrators are not White. However, if a White man such as myself gets into a scuffle with an Indian, you can bet your gonads that he will be charged with a hate crime even if only to set an example for other White racists and to pander to the multicultural community.

How do we end these attacks? Ship them home. The Africans, the Indians, the Arabs and their Jewish pals, and the Asians. Then we can decide who can come into this country and study.

I for one know that as well as our streets being safer, the quality of the students will also greatly increase mainly because they wont be using the university system as a back door to permanent residency in Australia.

GURGAON/NEW DELHI: Last September, 19-year-old Mukul Khanna had gone to Macquarie University, Sydney, all excited about finishing his BBA there and then probably settling in Australia. Less than a year later, he has returned to his Gurgaon home, called back by parents who hit the panic button after a friend of his was bashed up in Sydney two weeks back.

Sitting in his DLF Phase-V home, Dinesh Khanna, Mukul's hotelier father tells TOI:

I know my son will now have to drop a year because he won't get admission anywhere. But I am relieved that he is away from that madness.

Mukul though says that fear among the Indian student population in Sydney, Melbourne and other cities is on the rise. They target all Asian students including Pakistani and Sri Lankans. A lot of my Pakistani friends have left the place after being brutally attacked and robbed. Interestingly, the attackers are mostly not locals and are themselves people of foreign origin who resent the fact that Indian students go there in large numbers and take up jobs which may otherwise have gone to them.
