A man charged over the murder of a woman at a luxury Adelaide CBD home owned by two senior South Australian public servants has been remanded in custody

Numan Mohammed, 21, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court this afternoon charged over the murder of Kim Chau, 39, whose body was found on Monday night at a Sturt Street home.

Mr Mohammed did not make an application for bail and is expected to appear in court in December.

Prosecutors asked the court for a nine-month delay so forensic evidence could be examined.

However, defence lawyer Andrew English questioned why it would take so long for Forensics SA to analyse the evidence.

Instead, the case was adjourned until December so prosecutors could provide an update to the court.

Mr Mohammed was arrested yesterday afternoon when he returned to what police described as a halfway house where he was living on Waymouth Street in the city.

Yesterday, Detective Superintendent Des Bray said Ms Chau was reported missing by friends on Sunday and that the last confirmed sighting of her was at 11:30pm on Thursday.

He said friends became concerned when Ms Chau did not show up to work or to a social function

A man has been attacked by a stranger who was allegedly high on meth and armed with a machete at an IGA supermarket in Western Australia
Mark Pitassi was grocery shopping in Innaloo in north-west Perth on Saturday when a man rushed towards him, brandishing a large knife.

CCTV footage captured Mr Pitassi being ambushed by the man, with the 44-year-old using a blackboard to protect himself in front of a butcher in the complex.

'He had a knife on him, it was slippery, in the end it was like playing twister with somebody,' Mr Pitassi told 7News.

The encounter lasted for just 20 seconds, with the men coming to blows before breaking apart.

The alleged offender was then seen picking up the blackboard and smashing it through the butcher's display window, before rampaging through neighbouring businesses

A woman accused of the stabbing murder of a man at a Sydney block of units is behind bars after formally being refused bail.
Sharee Lorraine Turnbull, 30, faced Newtown Local Court on Monday charged with murdering the 25-year-old man in Camperdown on Saturday

Officers were called to the scene about 8pm after a resident heard a man screaming.
He suffered a number of stab wounds and later died in hospital.
Police said officers searched a unit at the block on Sunday and arrested Turnbull.
"I came outside and there was a gentleman laying on the ground, no clothes on with stab marks all over him," resident James Naylor said.
"There was blood everywhere."


She did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.
The case will return to court on November 25

A gang of machete-wielding thugs robbed a teenage girl at knife-point before running off with a bag of chicken

The 17-year-old was making a delivery for Red Rooster, in Durack, south-west Brisbane, at 8.15pm on Sunday when she was mugged.

She was making a delivery to Glengallan Place when a man approached the car she was driving
When she went to give the man food two other men approached her.

One of the men drew machetes and a screwdriver and the group demanded the 17-year-old had over the money she had.

She told them she had no money with her
They took the food she was supposed to deliver and headed in the direction of Blunder Road.

The teenager was not physically harmed during the hold up.

Police described the men as being in their late teens with a slim build

A woman wearing headphones was oblivious to a man Arab/African/Islander/sub continental/South East Asian dirty crook!who hit her on the head with a "hammer-like weapon" before sexually assaulting her in the bushes of a Munno Para park, police say.

Residents say the disturbing attack has struck fear into the community and should make females reconsider walking alone.

The unsuspecting young woman was going for a morning walk on a path through a wetlands area near Ramsar Rd, where she was hit, taken to the bushes and sexually assaulted about 7am on Friday

Her attacker – who spoke in a foreign language and also in English but with an accent – fled in an unknown direction, while the woman sought help at a nearby residence before she was treated at hospital.

Special Crimes Investigation Branch officer-in-charge Detective Chief Inspector Richard Lambert said the victim was wearing headphones and did not hear the man approaching her

Chief-Insp Lambert said the woman was hit with a "hammer-like weapon", possibly a mallet. "(The attacker), in my view, there was some level of planning. He was carrying a weapon" he said.

Chief-Insp Lambert said forensic evidence was found at the scene and detectives were following positive leads.

He said police would examine CCTV footage, while State Emergency Service crews and divers will search nearby wetland for the weapon tomorrow.

Chief-Insp Lambert said concerned locals should consider not being by themselves when walking in the area.

"You need to be aware of what's around you. People who wear earphones or headphones ... may not be aware of their surroundings because they're not listening to the things that are happening," he said. Mother-of-two Danielle Beverdam said the incident was a wake-up call for others who enjoyed the park.

"It's horrible, you shouldn't have to be worried about being attacked while you're out on a morning walk," she said

Local George Barnett, 64, said all women should rethink walking alone in the area. "It's awful, I would never let a woman walk around here again on her own," he said.

The man was described as 170cm tall, with a tanned complexion, of medium build, and wearing a black mask across the lower half of his face, along with a hooded jumper and dark-coloured pants.
