Extract: Muhumed Samow Ali pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of a woman at Wacol on September 10, 2015, when his trial began in the Brisbane Supreme Court today. But he pleaded guilty to other charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, going armed so as to cause fear, and unlawful wounding.

The woman was left with a 6cm gash down to her skull.

A NURSE at one of Adelaide's major hospitals illegally filmed a sick, elderly woman in her ward, eavesdropped on patients and distributed "degrading" images online, prosecutors allege.In a case that has left senior health officials "appalled", Flinders Medical Centre enrolled nurse Diosa Navarro Rankine, 50, is charged over the "humiliating" video of a female patient in 2014.

Rankine, a Filipino-born mother who is suspended on pay, is also accused of sharing the mobile phone videos on social media.

The nurse, of Panorama, in Adelaide's south, is further charged with "intentionally" using a listening device to record private conversations over a three-month period in 2014 and 2015.

The video, since deleted, shows the distressed patient screaming for the nurse to stop filming her in a hospital bed.

At one point, the patient, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, labels the nurse a "bastard".

"Go on get out. Just leave me alone," the patient screams. "Get out you bastard."

In faltering English, the woman filming — who prosecutors say is Rankine — replies: "I'm not a bastard. I am a good girl."

The elderly woman yells: "You're a bastard", which the nurse denies, before she screaming: "Yes you are. Please just leave me alone."

Rankine, registered to work in Australia for the past eight years, then mutters: "Goodnight s***."

In a significant invasion of privacy, the videos were allegedly "shared" on Rankine's Facebook account alongside other patient "selfie" photographs while complaining about her job.D

Diosa Navarro Rankine has been charged with using a listening device to monitor private conversations.

The nurse appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court last week, where her lawyers asked for a delay to "consider their position".

Shyam Acharya is charged with falsely holding himself out as a medical practitioner — an *^@&!offence that carries a fine of up to $30,000 — in this case as a doctor who worked in India many years ago, Sarang Chitale.

Mr Acharya is alleged to have used Dr Chitale's identity and papers, as well as other fraudulent documents, to gain registration with the NSW Medical Board in 2003. Over the next decade, he worked in the Manly, Hornsby, Wyong and Gosford hospitalsbefore ceasing employment — and his false medical registration — in 2014.

While Mr Acharya was employed as a junior doctor, requiring supervision, at least one case arose where his clinical competency was called into question. The details of that case were not

known last night but already have prompted legal action by the patient.

Mr Acharya's current whereabouts is unclear. He appears to have sought to start a medical communications business in 2016 out of a Sydney premises, but its phones were not answered last night. Other attempts to contact him proved unsuccessful.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency alerted NSW Health to the allegations in November last year and the case was mentioned in Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Monday. It was made public only yesterday afternoon and it is not known how long authorities had suspicions.

"Investigations of the two relevant local health districts have found only one clinical incident where there were concerns about the adequacy of the treatment, although it is noted that Mr Acharya's involvement was only as one of a number in the clinical team that treated the patient," NSW Health said in a statement.

"The Medical Council of NSW and the Health Care Complaints Commission have advised they have received no complaints about Mr Acharya."

As a consequence of the medical fraud investigation, the Australian Federal Police, Department of Immigration and Border Protection and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have now started investigating how Mr Acharya came to become an Australian citizen.

But John Rielly, 71, died in hospital on Friday night, a week after he was cruelly bashed in a violent dawn home invasion, during which a callous thief stole wallet, his bank card and security number.

Major Crime detectives were on Saturday hunting a youth they believe twice used the pensioner's credit card at a nearby shopping centre shortly after the crime.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy tomorrow (MON) — which will determine if his injuries contributed to his death — before deciding whether to launch a murder investigation.

Friends and neighbours paid tribute to the "lovely, sweet, kind and proud" man on Saturday. They condemned the heartless intruder and urged people to help bring justice.

A YOUNG family living in fear was forced to move to another suburb after a terrifying home invasion saw a father of two hacked by machete-wielding youths. The dad was attacked by youths attempting to steal his new luxury Audi sedan in South Melbourne.

Security doors that normally enclose the garage of the luxury apartment complex were left open for hours before the incident occurred, allowing the attackers inside.

Cameras had been stolen from outside the garage a week before the attack, leaving investigators to think the man was targeted.
The victim said his family had been traumatised.

"I saw blood everywhere, and that's when I started panicking," he said.

Vision captured on CCTV shows two men - said to be young with "dark eyes and dark skin" - armed with machetes confront the driver during a tense few moments, demanding his car.

In an attempt to fight the growing youth crime wave, 59-year-old Melbourne man Hayden Bradford has created the Protect Victoria group.

"The government aren't doing a damn thing to protect the innocent victims after those on bail reoffend," he said.

"Protect Victoria is not a vigilante group, we're just people who are fed up with the system right now and we want to make the government aware that things are out of control."

Protect Victoria's Facebook page has over 6000 followers and is quickly growing as more Victorians become fed up with the spike in youth crime.

A Melbourne truck driver and his son actively intervened in a violent robbery scene at a service station in Melbourne's west late at night.


The shocking CCTV footage shows a violent intruder slamming the service station door using a white ute.


Before the intruder could slam enter the service station, a terrified 7-Eleven employee locked himself in the backroom.


CCTV footage shows a brave truck driver entering the scene and fighting off the thug as police arrive on the scene.


Truck driver, Peter said he grabbed the offender's crowbar to fight stop him.


According to The Age Report, truckie felt that the violent attacker was some kind of 'half-robot' who was constantly laughing at him.


"Every time I hit him, he was just laughing at me. He was like a half-robot or something. There was no stopping that kid."


The CCTV footage also shows Policemen trying to stop the young offender after a brief scuffle.


While police were seen chasing attacker's ute on foot, truck driver's son (seen in orange fluoro vest) jumped into the police car to chase the young robber.


Police confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old man who drove into a power pole, a short distance from the 7/11 service station.
