Suspicious fire destroys Geelong mosque

Firefighters were called to the Manifold Heights former church at 2.10am on Wednesday, to find it in flames.

Seven crews battled for 50 minutes to bring the blaze under control but the building couldn't be saved. Victoria Police are at the scene this morning investigating the fire, which they are treating as suspicious.

The inferno was so intense firefighters weren't able to enter the building because of fears it could collapse.

They were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighbouring properties.

The mosque was home to the Islamic Society of Geelong, which represents thousands of Muslim families. [more ...]

Geelong mosque destroyed by suspicious fire; Islam 'not the target', police say

Inspector Graham Banks from Victoria Police said he did not believe someone had deliberately targeted the mosque, which is housed in a former Anglican church.

"This is one of a series of fires against places of worship in the Geelong area. There's been four since October last year," he said.

"It is clearly not what people might envisage a mosque might look like."

Sledgehammer-wielding thieves have attacked a man as he slept in his car in the Queensland town of Tamborine Mountain.

The men, one armed with a sledgehammer and the other with a metal pole, smashed their way into the silver Holden Commodore early on Saturday morning, the Brisbane Times reports.

They then hit the man in the face and demanded his keys.

The victim's dog, a staffy named Bun Bun, bolted from the car and is still missing.

The thieves had arrived in the carpark in a stolen white Nissan Navara, which was later found abandoned after colliding with another car in Logan.

The victim suffered facial injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

His car, a silver 2012 Holden Commodore station wagon with Queensland registration 164 SLB, has not been found.

One of the thieves is described as being about 188cm tall with a slim build, with a dark complexion.

He was wearing a t-shirt, shorts, a hat and had a black and red shirt covering his face.

Sand-Nigger Blows Up Shop for Insurance - Kills White Mother and Baby - Guilty of Manslaughter

Former Sydney shopkeeper Adeel Ahmad Khan has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of the manslaughter of mother Bianka O'Brien and her baby Jude in the Rozelle convenience shop explosion in 2014.

At his trial, Khan was accused of placing petrol-filled containers around his shop and lighting the fire in order to secure an insurance payout and avoid lease obligations.

On Friday, a NSW Supreme Court jury found Khan, 46, guilty of murdering Chris Noble, a 27-year-old man who lived above his Darling Street shop, and guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Todd Fisher and wounding Corey Cameron, who were injured in the fire.

The jury on Friday also found Khan guilty of dishonestly destroying property by means of fire with a view to gain.

Bianka O'Brien, 31,  and her 11-month-old son, Jude, also lived upstairs from his shop.

Attack outside Perth Jihad Indoctrination Centre during Cult Services

A suspected petrol bomb has exploded outside a Perth mosque as hundreds of Muslims attended a service for the cult.

No one inside the Thornlie Mosque/Jihad Indoctrination Centre was injured when the car exploded on Tuesday evening.

The phrase "F*** Islam" was scrawled in graffiti on a wall next to a 4WD, which was set on fire.
