A growing number of international students at an elite Melbourne university are being violently robbed

Chinese students at Monash University are falling victim to gang violence in the suburban suburb of Clayton - having their wallets, phones and credit cards stolen.

In the last 18 days police have been notified of 13 separate attacks on people as young as 19 to as old as 55, the Herald Sun reported.

Kuan Gao, a 19-year-old Chinese student, had his iPhone and wallet stolen from him by three African men at night when he was walking near the university on April 18

'They said very urgently "give us your wallet." In the meantime, one guy asked me to reset my iPhone settings. I knew they were going to rob me,' Mr Gao said.

He said he wasn't able to run away because they blocked him, and the road was too long.

The mugging problem in the area is so bad that there's even posters telling people to beware of thugs.   

'Warning: Take care when walking through laneway. There have been several incidents of ­assault and burglaries,' the sign reads

Mr Gao said he is now forced to take Ubers home at night, as he needs to walk down the dangerous alleyway to get home.

Another student was mugged at knifepoint near the campus a month earlier, where his attackers even stole the jacket and shirt from his back after taking his brand new iPhone XR

Some of the victims were subjected to assaults even after giving up their valuables.

Authorities believe the same thugs are targeting people in Burwood, Mulgrave, Mount Waverly, Box Hill, Glen Waverly and Oakleigh. 

Police raided homes in Melbourne's south east and arrested suspects over attacks carried out between April 25 and May 12
Some of the alleged culprits haven't been arrested, and police are after suspects they say are of African appearance.

Police are reminding the public that they'll be ramping up their presence in those areas.

Monash University students are able to be escorted by security to their cars, public transport or colleges

I wonder if they'll step things up against blacks now the "cash cows" are being robbed?

Shocking new footage shows the moment a gang of youths executed a 'grab and run theft' at JB Hi-Fi which police tried to play down as simple 'shoplifting'.

Four teenagers were arrested for stealing $15,000 worth of electrical goods from the electronics store at Taren Point in Sydney's south on Monday afternoon.

At least 20 stores across the city have been hit in similar robberies over the past month

Four youths of African appearance aged 18, 17, and 16 were taken into custody with one freed on bail.

Security guards managed to follow the thieves and take down their number plates before reporting them to police, 7NEWS reported.

Chairman and co-founder of electronics giant Harvey Norman, Gerry Harvey, has since slammed the 'little hoods' after his stores were also targeted.

'It's really bad when in the middle of the day, six little hoods can come in and ransack and rob, and staff and everyone else just lets them go - which is fine, but they know they can get away with it,' Mr Harvey said
'So how do you stop these guys doing it ... the police force has to do something. '

In a separate incident, police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stealing a speaker from an electronic store in Hornsby.

Police are searching for another five men who are also described as being of 'African appearance'. 

The arrests come after NSW Police announced they were stepping up their investigation into blitz-style robberies targeting electrical stores such as JB Hi-Fi and Bing Lee across Sydney
Police were called to six robberies in the past three days, including three on Saturday and one at Eastgardens on Sunday.

All the offenders are described as being of African appearance in all of the incidents.

It's understood thieves intimidated staff before taking off with popular items such as Apple watches, iPhones and MacBooks.

But detectives are insisting Sydney is not facing the same African gang crisis as Melbourne.

'I would not describe them as gangs,' Detective Chief Inspector Glyn Baker told the Daily Telegraph

'I think it's very important that we don't draw any parallels whatsoever with what's happening in Melbourne. What we are dealing with here is a group of young African males who are committing criminal offences

'Ryde detectives are working with investigators from the State Crime Command Robbery and Serious Crime Squad to identify, locate and arrest groups of offenders, responsible for a series of recent thefts, including three on Saturday at retail stores in Artarmon, Castle Hill and Top Ryde,' a NSW Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.

'Officers are already gathering evidence including CCTV from each of the crime scenes.

'No-one was hurt in the latest incidents but police are concerned about the threat to public safety.'


Other recent robberies occurred in Rhodes, Strathfield, Rouse Hill, Campbelltown, Carlingford, Chatswood and Burwood.

The police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia it was too early to say whether the recent robberies are linked to an alleged attempted robbery of an Optus store in Sydney's south-west in April.

An innocent elderly bystander was seriously injured after a group of up to 15 African teens stormed an Optus store during the alleged attempted robbery at Casula Mall. 

Police alleged staff confronted the teens after they began pulling on items attached to the display by security cables, which was captured on store CCTV

One teen allegedly stole a watch while another attempted to steal a mobile phone but dropped it as the group fled the store.

The group is captured on CCTV fleeing the shopping centre, as confused shoppers watch on and scramble to get out of their way

Six JB Hi-Fi and Bing Lee stores were targeted by youths, stealing tens of thousands of electronics.

Raids were conducted at JB Hi-Fi and Bing Lee stores at Artarmon, Top Ryde, Castle Hill, Rhodes, Strathfield and Rouse Hill, Campbelltown, Carlingford, Chatswood, Artarmon, Burwood and East Gardens over the NSW holiday weekend.

In April, a group of African teenagers stormed a Telco store in Casula and attempted to rob it.

Ten African youths were arrested and charged in January over a series of assault and robberies on trains and near train stations in the Blacktown area

An elderly woman suffered a broken pelvis bowled over by one of the teens.

A teen was charged in relation to the incident on May 10 and police investigations are continuing

Melbourne has been dealing with violence relating to African street gangs for years, with footage and images of brawling youths involved in crimes and brawls.

Ugly scenes involving African youths and the wider community have erupted on numerous occasions in Melbourne in the past months, with politicians slamming Victorian police for a lack of action.

In January, a gang of white teenagers armed with baseball bats targeted a group of African youths as part of a revenge attack for an earlier alleged bashing.

It's understood the teenagers were searching for a gang of 30 youths who allegedly beat and robbed two teenagers at Wyndham Vale train station on Sunday.

There were also violent clashes in January between far-right and anti-racism protesters on Melbourne's St Kilda Beach

This is the terrifying moment a masked gunman wearing a military-style vest opened fire on a Melbourne home.

Police have released video of two shootings at a Reservoir property last week that are believed to be linked to Middle Eastern gangs.

The shooter, who was also wearing what appeared to be a radio on his shoulder, was seen approaching the Bray Street property at around 12.50am on June 4.

Video shows the gunman kicking at the front door while yelling, 'Open up you f***ing c***, before unleashing a stream of bullets.   

He goes on to fire two more shots as he makes a run for his getaway car waiting on the street
Police said the four people inside the home sleeping were not harmed in the incident

MARCH 1: Craigieburn dad Ben Toigai, 30, was shot dead and two others injured outside a Kensington boxing match. Abdullah El Nasher, 27, and Mikhael Myko, 25, are charged.

MARCH 3: Mitat Rasimi, aged in his 50s, died after crashing his car into a pole at Dandenong, but police believe gunshots he received earlier caused his death.

MARCH 4: Ali Ali, 28, and Deniz Hasan, 40 die after being shot at Meadow Heights. Norden Wilio, 23, has been charged.

MARCH 10: Winis Apet shot dead at Springvale allegedly by 19-year-old Paguir Pan.

APRIL 14: Security guard Aaron Khalid Osmani, 37, and patron Richard Arow, 28, die after being shot outside the Love Machine night club.

APRIL 26: A 41-year-old Carnegie man Daniel O'Shea is found dead at Fawkner Park at South Yarra

In a second incident just four days later, a 20-year-old resident of the home is seen emerging from the property at around 1.30am.

The man is seen approaching a black Porsche SUV parked on the street, before someone comes out of the car and opens fire on him.

The man quickly flees trying to dodge the hail of bullets by jumping over a fence in his front yard, to take cover at the home.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for non-threatening injuries. 

The SUV was later found after it had been set on fire about 25 minutes later in Mitchell Street Brunswick East, police said.

Superintendent Brigham said the taskforce released the footage in hopes someone will come forward with information

'We understand that people in the community feel concerned following reports of shootings played out in public', he said.

'I want to reassure the community that police and our division are working hard to investigate this incident and hold those responsible to account.

'The people involved in this have friends, they have relatives, someone knows who is responsible and I'm urging those people to come forward – we don't want anyone else to get hurt

As part of the investigation we are looking to possible links with outlaw motorcycle gangs and those with ties to Middle Eastern organised crime.

Brigham said the shootings were 'very much a targeted attack' and do not appear to be linked to any other incidents.   

The two incidents are the latest in a string of shootings that has rocked the city this year. 

In April, 41-year-old Daniel O'Shea - who police say had criminal connections in Australia - was found shot to death in South Yarra's Fawkner Park.

Earlier that month, two people were killed in a deadly drive-by shooting at Love Machine nightclub in Prahan

A grandmother was violently raped in a public park by a 23-year-old who heartlessly congratulated her on a 'good job'.

Manasa Qoro attacked the 59-year-old as she walked through a park in Liverpool, in Sydney's western suburbs, at about 9pm on November 12, 2017. 

Fijian-born Qoro hit her on the back of the head and forced her to the ground, while covering her mouth, the Macarthur Chronicle reported

Qoro told his victim 'I will f**king kill you' and said he would 'blow' in her mouth.

The 23-year-old then spat on her and raped her. 

After the horrific ordeal, Qoro cleaned his genitals by wiping it on the victim's pants and said 'good job' while gesturing a fist bump.

Qoro previously pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault without consent and sexual intercourse without consent
During sentencing at the Campbelltown District Court on Friday, Judge Chris O'Brien read a victim impact statement to the court.

'I don't know who I am anymore... What is left of me is an empty shell,' the statement said.

The victim explained she had become suicidal and has been hospitalised in psychiatric wards twice.

She said she did not feel like she deserved her grandchildren's love but instead felt 'dirty

'It is like he (Qoro) has been imprinted on my space... I can smell him,' the statement said.

Judge O'Brien said the attack was 'an extreme form of violence' and described the experience as 'terrifying' for the victim.   

'She had a right, as does any member of this community, to feel safe as she walked through the streets, no matter what time she walked through,' he said.

Qoro was handed an aggregate sentence of 11 and a half years with seven and a half years non parole.

A Skaf gang rapist who was jailed for his role in the sexual assaults of at least six girls in Sydney continues to blame his victims nearly two decades after he was convicted

Mohammed Skaf, 36, is serving 22 years behind bars with an 18-year non-parole period after his sentence was cut from 31 years after an appeal.

Skaf was among 14 other Lebanese-Australian men, including his brother, who conducted brutal gang-rapes on schoolgirls as young as 14 in 2000.

He is currently fighting for parole after he was denied release at the end of his non-parole period last year

During a hearing last week, the Serious Offenders Review Council labelled Skaf a 'menace to society' adding that he has not shown remorse for his actions.

'It appears that he still blames the victims for his offending, has no victim empathy and refuses to take responsibility for his actions,' The Sun-Herald reported.

Skaf was also assessed as a 'medium to high risk' of offending again in the next five years.

His lawyer Omar Juweinat argued his client has served his time and revealed he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease, also known as lymphoma, and spent a year handcuffed to a hospital bed.

'There must be a point in a prisoner's life where enough time is enough time. Mr Skaf is well beyond his non-parole period, has undertaken every conceivable course and was diagnosed with a very serious illness,' Mr Juweinat said. 

'At some point, the government and the public must anticipate that this man will be released into the community,' he added

n the 20 years he has spent behind bars, Skaf has been involved in prison scuffles with other inmates, threatened detention officers, and has been caught using banned items such as a mobile phone, tobacco, USBs and porn, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

He was transferred to another detention centre in 2009 after he the phone was found in the same cell he lived in with his brother Bilal.

In 2013, he reportedly pour boiling water on another inmate's head.

A decision is expected to be made on his release in August.
