An antisemitic sign was displayed on the steps of Victorian parliament on Friday night, sparking a police investigation.

Victoria Police said officers were called to reports about 20 protesters were displaying a large banner near Parliament House about 6.55pm

"Police are investigating after an antisemitic sign was displayed during a protest in the Melbourne CBD on Friday, 20 December," the force said in the statement.

"Police have been told members of the public who were present were outraged and verbally showed their disgust to the protesters. The group ran towards Fitzroy Gardens and fled the scene.

Victoria Police vehemently condemns antisemitic or racially motivated behaviour in our society and will not tolerate this kind of activity. Investigators are in the process of collecting evidence to identify those involved."

This masthead has seen other social media posts indicating the masked men are linked to a group of neo-Nazis.

Concerns about rising antisemitism intensified dramatically earlier this month when the Addas Israel Synagogue in Ripponlea was firebombed.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton declared the attack "likely a terrorist incident" and said the force would boost patrols to reassure the Jewish community "that we are there to support and protect them.

On Tuesday, Premier Jacinta Allan announced plans to criminalise certain behaviours at protests – including wearing masks – and framed the measures as a response to antisemitism by White Australians only (Not by Jews, Blacks & Muslims because they are protected species that have Freedom of Speech).

People put advertising in post boxes from the local store or the real-estate bloke wants new properties to sell.

If it was really about fliers they'd ban all this across the board!

Man Arrested for Leading Anti-Semitic Protest

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit investigators have arrested a man who allegedly led an antisemitic protest in Melbourne's CBD last Friday evening.

Police were called to reports that up to 20 people, dressed in black and holding a banner allegedly displaying an antisemitic sign, were protesting on the steps of Parliament House just before 7pm on Friday 20 December.

When police arrived, the protest group fled towards the Fitzroy Gardens.

Responding officers were told members of the public who were present were outraged and verbally showed their disgust to the protestors. [They screamed out anti-White vilification and general abuse directed at the peaceful protestors in a revealingly typical example of Two Tier Australia ~ Creator Forum.]

A police investigation immediately commenced and a search warrant seeking evidence was executed at a home in Wantirna South on Monday 23 December.

A number of items were seized during the search.

Investigators arrested a 29-year-old Wantirna South man after he presented at a police station about 7.40pm on 23 December.

The man was interviewed in relation to grossly offensive public conduct, Racial and Religious Tolerance Act offences and offensive behaviour.

The man was released whilst a brief of evidence is prepared and the proposed charges are submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for approval, as required under the Racial and Religious Tolerances Act legislation.

This investigation remains ongoing while police work to identify others involved in the protest.
