Confronting footage has shown more than 100 neo-Nazis marching through the streets of Melbourne before they squared off with police

Members of the National Socialist Network (NSN) gathered in the CBD and marched along Bourke Street, dressing in all black clothing, before police were called to intervene on Saturday morning.

Police vehicles were seen arriving at the scene with lights flashing, but they let the march continue as protesters held Australian flags, and a 'White Man Fight Back' sign.

The group walked to nearby Flagstaff Gardens and dispersed at about 1.25am.

'Around 100 people dressed in black with face coverings marched through the Melbourne CBD,' a Victorian Police spokeswoman said.

'It is alleged an altercation occurred during the protest where a man confronted the group and was assaulted.'

The 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not the first time neo-Nazi groups have marched through Melbourne's streets.

'Victoria Police respects the right to protest however there is absolutely no place for antisemitic, racist or hate-based behaviour in our society and police will not tolerate such activity,' a police statement read.

On Saturday morning Premier Jacinta Allan said: 'Nazis don't belong in this country and they know it. That's why they hide behind masks in the dark.'

Allan said Victorian police will soon have more power to handle hate groups.

'Our criminal anti-vilification laws come into effect next month. We will introduce powers for police to unmask cowards at protests after that,' she said.

'We're not afraid of these goons, but we won't tolerate them, either.'

National Socialist Network members reportedly gathered again as the sun came up at Bacchus Marsh in Melbourne's outer west.

Bacchus Marsh locals were told of the group's planned march prior to Saturday.

'We want to alert you to a concerning event planned in our community: a neo-Nazi gathering has been scheduled to take place in the Bacchus Marsh area on August 8, 9 and 10,' a flyer handed out read.

'This group, the NSN, promotes hate, violence, and dangerous extremist ideologies that threaten the safety and unity of our community.

'Members will be coming from all over Australia. For the first time, they have invited their supporters to join them as well.'

There will be a bigger police presence between Melton and Ballarat over the weekend.

Victoria Police told Daily Mail that there were no protests happening in Melbourne as of 11.45am on Saturday.

Aussies have criticised the protest.

'Australia is multicultural so no, they are NOT standing up for 'Australians,' one person wrote online.

Another described them as a 'pathetic little club of cowards.

'Not one of those manchild scumbags is doing anything, they just only feel strong in a gang,' they said.

'Separate them and you have a club of snivelling babies.'

It comes after a previous white supremacist march outside a shopping centre in Melbourne in June where a group gathered outside Northland Shopping Centre in Preston

They were filmed dressed in black with their faces covered while chanting slogans such as 'white man, fight back' and 'white pride' while holding an offensive banner.

Neo-Nazi group leader Thomas Sewell faces jail after being found guilty of intimidating a police officer and his wife "to instil fear" by threatening to "dox" them on podcasts.

Sewell, 32, represented himself in a contested hearing against the charges at Melbourne Magistrates Court, which ran for more than a week

He was arrested outside the court over a separate matter – an alleged attack on an Indigenous site – and taken into custody while the proceeding was happening on September 2.

The hearing re-commenced and Sewell continued to represent himself from behind glass in the court dock, flanked by security officers.

Sewell is accused of threatening to "dox" a police officer and his wife on podcasts in October and November last year, including threats to release personal information and wedding photos.

"I'm working out how to dox him because those doxing laws haven't come into effect yet," he told a podcast.

"Like his wedding photos, we've got it all downloaded, he's a f***ing idiot."

The police officer gave evidence to the hearing about feeling "highly anxious" over his and his family's safety.

"I didn't know what he was going to do with that information," he told the court.

The officer's wife did not give evidence in person to the hearing, but her statement was handed to the court.
"I felt really intimidated and threatened, I felt like we were in danger," she said.

Sewell claimed he was holding police to account and using his implied "freedom of communication" about public affairs when he spoke about the officer and his family.

However, magistrate Michelle Hodgson on Friday found Sewell guilty of police intimidation and rejected his arguments, finding he had targeted the private life of the officer.

"There were threats of doxing, openly contemplating circulating this material," she told the court.

"There is evidence of personal animosity and insult, calling him a f***ing asshole, and including his wife and family – that went well beyond political accountability."

She said Sewell's comments did not constitute legitimate engagement in political discussion or communication about public affairs and police accountability.

"Mr Sewell ... has sought to weaponise personal information, personal insult and public exposure to instil fear, and used a speech as intimidation rather than as political communication," she said.

Hodgson found Sewell guilty of three charges of intimation against a police officer and his wife, which can carry a term of imprisonment.

She further ruled he was guilty of two counts of contravening personal safety orders, in November 2024, and not guilty of two other offences regarding contravention of those orders.

The magistrate found there was not enough evidence to prove Sewell failed to comply with police direction to hand over passwords to his devices during a warrant, and found him not guilty of that offence.

He will face a plea hearing on Friday afternoon.

A number of Sewell's supporters, including Jacob Hersant, attended the court or watched online on Friday.

After the ruling broke for lunch, after 1.15pm, police were seen arresting another member of Sewell's neo-Nazi group outside the court.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15082811/Neo-Nazi-Thomas-Sewell-youve-never-seen-multicultural-life-fancy-public-school-fuelled-life-hate.html

Striking new photographs of neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell have surfaced, as the focus turns to how his teenage years at a multicultural high school may have fuelled his extremist views

Sewell, 32, is the founder of Australian far-right extremist group the National Socialist Network, which promotes white supremacy and antisemitic ideology.

On Friday, he was found guilty on three charges of intimidation of a law enforcement officer, and his wife, over targeted threats to expose his personal information.
He was ordered to do 200 hours of community work when he's released from jail on other charges after unsuccessfully representing himself at a week-long trial in Melbourne Magistrates' Court.

But before his infamous rise as Australia's notorious moustached and bullet-headed neo-Nazi leader, New Zealand-born Sewell once looked very, very different.

As a young child, he moved to Melbourne with his brother Hugo and parents Anne and Tony.

He attended Balwyn High School in Melbourne's east, a co-educational school with a predominantly Asian student population.

As a teenager in 2009, alongside his school squash team, Sewell was snapped looking awkward and unrecognisable, sporting a thick mop of shaggy hair.

He has since undergone a dramatic transformation, with his hair all but receded,  leaving him with a shaved head synonymous with his extremist 'skinhead' identity.

Sewell later joined the Australian Army in 2012, quitting in 2014 before beginning but not completing civil engineering studies at Swinburne University.

Between 2016 and 2018, he worked in residential care for children at risk.

Business records indicate he briefly went into business in 2016, serving as director for just five weeks at Compass One Pty Ltd alongside two Asian men.

He later worked at a plumbing and roofing company, where his employer described him as courteous, respectful and dependable in a testimonial provided for a court appearance following his arrest for attacking a group of hikers in 2021.
His father Tony told Melbourne Magistrates' Court that he did not share his son's beliefs, describing their relationship as 'cordial' and 'normal'.

In his testimonial, Sewell senior described his son as disciplined, with 'a strong work ethic' and 'a sense of fair play'.

Photos on his public Facebook account also show a close and doting relationship with Sewell's two young daughters, aged two and eight months.

He further described his son as an above-average student who excelled in sport and enjoyed solving problems and helping others less fortunate than himself.

His comments contrast sharply with those of the family of fellow NSN member Nathan Bull, who publicly disowned their son after his alleged involvement in an attack on an Indigenous sacred site.' for elegance.

On 31 August 2025, following an anti-immigration rally in Melbourne, a group of men allegedly stormed Camp Sovereignty, a First Nations protest camp in King's Domain.

The group is accused of violent disorder, affray, assault and other offences, with several people injured, including one woman who needed staples to treat a head injury and others with minor wounds.

Police allege the group was led by Sewell, who has been charged with 25 offences including violent disorder, affray, assault and discharging a missile after Camp Sovereignty occupiers were allegedly held down and attacked.

He appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court last week where he was refused bail, with a magistrate saying she was satisfied he would endanger the safety of others if released into the community.

Meanwhile, Bull, who was wearing a mouthguard during the alleged attack has also been charged with violent disorder and affray but was granted bail by police last week.

'We, as Nathan Bull's family, are utterly devastated and remain in disbelief at his decision to join this group,' the family said in a statement

'From the very beginning, we made it clear that if he chose this path, we could no longer be an active part of his life. Sadly, that is the decision he made.'

In response to misinformation, the family clarified that Bull's father has not been a member of Victoria Police for more than three years.

'He is not 'Luke Bull,' the officer charged and found guilty in relation to a separate matter last year,' they said.

'He is in no way racist, nor did he have a negative influence on Nathan growing up.'

The family also addressed a photo from Nathan's 21st birthday, where he was pictured wearing a t-shirt featuring neo-Nazi symbolism.

They said they had no knowledge of his association with the extremist group at the time, nor any understanding of the meaning behind the shirt.

'At that point, Nathan was working, engaged with his family, and we believed he was becoming a fine young man. Not long after, our trust in that belief was sadly shattered,' they said.

The family asked the media and community to stop contacting them after receiving 'deeply distressing' abusive phone calls.

'We are embarrassed to see Nathan continually featured in the media and saddened by the possibility that he may never leave this group. His choices are his alone.

'We hope this statement clears up some of the misinformation currently circulating and that we can now be allowed to live our lives without harassment due to the actions of someone who is no longer a part of our family.

Bull, who has fast become Sewell's right-hand man, was also behind the camera filming Sewell when he interrupted Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan's press conference, is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on December 10.

https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/news/state/nsw/2025/11/09/neo-nazi-rally-sydney

Police approved a neo-Nazi protest outside NSW parliament on Saturday morning, which involved black-clad men reciting Hitler chants and displaying a banner that stated: "Abolish the Jewish Lobby"

Newly appointed police commissioner Mal Lanyon has ordered a review after permission was given for the gathering in Sydney's Macquarie, despite new laws from August banning the incitement of racial hatred.

It's believed those involved were members of the National Socialist Network, which has staged numerous protests over the past couple of years, including anti-immigration rallies in Sydney and Melbourne.

The group of about 60 protesters reportedly expressed antisemitic sentiments, slammed multiculturalism and chanted a Hitler Youth slogan while standing in formation.

Neither Manyon nor Premier Chris Minns was aware that the protest had been approved.

Minns said it was important for him to publicly slam the racist event, even though he did not want to "give these pissants more oxygen".

"It's likely the case that we need to give police more legislated powers to stop this kind of naked racism and hatred on Sydney streets," Minns said after the rally.

"I know holding this media conference does exactly that but the truth of the matter is, I've decided that if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile.

"And does anyone believe this is their last rally? Does anyone think after dipping their toe into racism in Sydney, they're going to stop here.

"I want them to be met with the clear and unambiguous message from the government, from political leaders, from civic life, from average NSW residents that we've got no interest in neo-Nazis in Sydney and in Australia.

Lanyon conceded police had received notice the rally was going to take place more than a week ago, but said he had been caught off guard by it himself.

"There was a communication error within the police force for which I did not personally know that today's protest was taking place," he explained.

"The protest was taken to be authorised," he said.

"It was assessed by the police area command at the time based on the information that was present."

The decision had been made by officers charged with dealing with some 2000 protests each year, the commissioner said.

"Obviously (they) need to make an assessment based on what ... they were comfortable with ... that it was not one that they needed to actually take objection to."

Lanyon said that process would be fully reviewed.

"I think it's essential to understand what took place, what was considered, how that was overlaid against the appropriate legislation that exists at the moment," he said.

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies President David Ossip branded the rally disgraceful.

"The chilling images and despicable words of hate which were uttered today should never find a home or be accepted in our society, especially outside the heart of our democracy," he said.

Doesn't matter that people wanted to call out the Jewish lobby in a peaceful protest. The cops are in trouble now for allowing it from the grizzling Kikes who never can be criticised! It's only "hatred" when White people call them out but look what they've been up to lately! ABOLISH THE JEWISH LOBBY indeed.

I feel sorry for this poor bastard Nathan Bull; disowned by his family who were themselves targeted for abuse, no doubt by communists and abo-lovers. That's the nightmare scenario for me — disowned by my family (as I doubtless would be; kicked out onto the streets as well) while they suffer attacks over my activism. My mother runs a small business and it would probably go tits-up if smeared with the tar of 'racism'.

Sad!
