PORT Adelaide will use an indigenous recording of its club song in the AFL Indigenous Round — a league first. ... "the challenge was dealing with some words that don't translate from English ... such as 'Power'."

No doubt "Power" has been translated as "Stick" and "Port" translated to "Billabong." Hence Port Power = Billabong Stick.

AN "appalling" meme comparing a high-profile Australian indigenous sportsman to a gorilla killed in a US zoo was removed by Facebook on Thursday after a complaint by the Australian Football League.

The meme, recently posted on the "AFL Memes" page which has almost 200,000 likes, showed an image of the 400-pound silverback Harambe, which was shot dead after a child fell into its enclosure in Ohio, along with former AFL star Adam Goodes' name and other comments.

The meme also caused an uproar on social media. Some Twitter users questioned why Facebook had not removed the post earlier, saying it was "hate speech" and violated its policies.

Goodes retired from the domestic Aussie Rules league last year, months after being subjected to repeated booing from fans during games in scenes many described as racially motivated.

THE State Government has promised Port Adelaide $50,000 to use for Multicultural Round activities after hundreds of Power fans missed the start of a recent game because of train problems.

Port Adelaide supporters were left stranded for more than 40 minutes because of a train shutdown on June 11 when the Power played the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval.

It meant that some fans did not arrive at the ground until halftime, so as a gesture of goodwill, the government has pledged $50,000 to allow the Power to present its biggest pre-game experience for the season on July 7.

Before the Power hosts Hawthorn, activities will include a cultural dance, dragon boats in the River Torrens, a citizenship ceremony, fireworks and LED performers in the southern plaza.

"We have a diverse membership base at Port Adelaide and this will give us the chance to acknowledge the many cultures that participate in our game as part of AFL Multicultural Round.



Well well. Multiculturalism is so bloody important now, SA - the broke and jobless state has to front $50k to showcase other * gooks and stuff like to do just to show how much gooks and other MUDS are valued in sporting circles and the community!

THE woman who threw a banana at Adelaide star Eddie Betts has been "demonised", according to a man claiming to be her father, who claims "the racist card" is being played.

The father, who just gave his first name Don, says his 27-year-old daughter was "unassuming" and "beautiful" and that her actions were "uncharacteristic".

"The thing that irritates me the most is that we're playing the racist card here," he told FiveAA's David and Will on Monday morning.

"It was more an act of frustration than a racist act where she's thrown a banana.

"Don't demonise this human being because I know what she's like. All she's done is throw a banana."

Don said there is "no way" the throw was pre-meditated.

"Unless my daughter was on drugs overnight, no way in the world."
