The German Fortune Teller

A Fortune Teller back in 1902 was asked to predict what Germany would be like in 10, 30, 40, 50, 75 years in the future.

"Well", he said,"In 1912, Germany will stretch from Alsace-Lorraine to Konigsberg and will have an prosperous economy."

"Ah," they said.  "Then by 1932, we will be strong indeed."

"No," said the Fortune Teller, "By 1932, Germany will have to cross another country to get to East Prussia, and Germans will have to buy a loaf of bread with a wheelbarrow of marks."

"Oh," they said.  "Then by 1942, we will surely be in a sorry state."

"No," said the Fortune Teller.  "By 1942, Germany territory will stretch from the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean, from Cap Finistère in Brittany to the outer suburbs of Moscow."

"Ah, they said.  "Then by 1952, we will be a force to be reckoned with!"

"No," said the Fortune Teller.  "By 1952, Germany will have been split four ways by occupying powers, will have committed crimes against humanity, and will be forced to apply for re-admission to the human race."

"Gott in Himmel...", they whispered.  "Gemany will never rise again after that!"

"No," said the Fortune Teller. "By 1977, Germany will be a pacifist nation, having pulled off an economic miracle.  Their greatest concern will be not to upset any non-German within or without German borders."

Naturally, they locked the Fortune Teller up as insane.......
