Where's the safest place to put your money?  For decades, we were raised and taught the answer to that question was "in a bank". And for decades that answer was correct.   But what if one day the bank just says — sorry!  It's not your money anymore!  — and refuses to let you take it out?  That's not just random speculation by me, many experts are warning that's coming.  In fact, it already has a name:  "bail-ins".

 Trudeau DID in fact freeze their accounts.  He also had the RCMP seize all gasoline supplies so the Freedom March truckers couldn't drive their trucks and earn a living.  This is for anyone who thinks that the US government won't freeze their accounts also.  Credit Unions have been around for over a hundred years.  And credit unions are community institutions, and not just another follower of big brother.

Thank you for explaining the difference between Banks and Credit Unions in the US and Canada.

Both Banks and Credit Unions frequently refuse service to customers whom they choose to describe as "White Supremacist." If I was a dumb-arse, and advertised my bank details so that I could easily receive donations (forgetting the security risks and the high transfer fees), some Red, Jew, or even State or Federal Police would sooner or later contact the bank and my account would be closed. PayPal, Banks, Credit Unions .... F'em all! That's why I now use Crypto.

However, for those from Australia, and presumably New Zealand, it's not the same. Credit Unions and Banks here may indeed have different rules and regulations, but neither are trustworthy. In fact, Credit Unions and Banks Downunder are much like Fried Chicken Takeaway Restaurants: A Red Rooster will cause food poisoning, and the next month it's a Big Rooster, with the same staff, different uniforms and decor. A few years later, it's a Red Rooster again when there's another outbreak of food poisoning.

You could join a Credit Union and it can be sold off, amalgamated, split and become a Bank or a different named Credit Union at any time. Here's an example:

* You open an account with the Hindmarsh Credit Union.
* The Hindmarsh becomes the Adelaide Bank.
* The Adelaide Bank amalgamates with and becomes the Bendigo Bank.
* The Bendigo Bank has now amalgamated with People's Choice Credit Union.

Credit Union or Bank? Will one close down? Which way will it turn? Is there really a difference?

The Hindmarsh Credit Union --> Bendigo Bank had a good reputation for customer service.

People's Choice Credit Union has a bad reputation for customer service. If you are a Student or an Old Age Pensioner, they will often refuse to transfer funds paid by the Federal Government/Social Security. The excuse they claim is that many people receiving Social Security are doing so through fraud, so People's Choice CU are doing you a favour by refusing to pay your Social Security. Their statement is a lie. Their meaning is if you don't like it, close your account and move your dole bludging arse somewhere else!

After the amalgamation, Old Age Pensioners with Bendigo Bank Visa Cards are finding that their cards are suddenly no longer working. All their regular payments are frozen!  When they call the bank, they are told the problem is with the user, not Bendigo Bank. Call again a week later, and Bendigo Bank admits that they cancelled your card - no reason given - and they will soon issue you with a new card. When the new card arrives, in a couple of weeks, it's for People's Choice Credit Union.

There may be a legal separation between Banks and Credit Unions in North America, but Downunder? They're just another fried chicken food poisoning bait and switch scam.

There is a difference between Credit Unions and Banks in Australia. The Credit Union isn't guaranteed. There was one I think it was "Pyramid"? In the early 90's and it folded and people were out of pocket.

The Commonwealth Bank is guaranteed by the Federal Govt.'s Federal Reserve Bank.

The Savings Bank of South Australia/Bank SA was guaranteed through the state but had to bail out everybody in the 80's when they built a retail precinct they couldn't afford.

As a result, the shonks in Govt decided to introduce poker machines and take a percentage in tax from pub owners. They got craftier with traffic infringements and parking stitch- ups and treated people with contempt to get those funds back!
