A top Florida Republican lawmaker is warning that Cuba is working with Chinese nationals to infiltrate the United States by sea

Rep. Carlos Gimenez, who represents the Florida Keys, called it 'extremely concerning' following reports that 17 Chinese nationals were captured after entering Key Largo by boat this week

This is the first time I think we've caught [Chinese nationals] trying to cross getting into the Keys area...it's concerning,' Gimenez told http://dailymail.com during an exclusive interview.

'I don't know who they are, why they're here or what they were doing,' he added.

Gimenez, who sits on the House Homeland Security Committee, said there are 'greater ties' being formed between the communist Cuban regime and then the Communist Chinese regime.

'That really kind of concerns me that now they're trying to make their way in through the Keys - my part of the country. I understand that the Chinese are having more and more influence. More and more infrastructure projects more and more activity in our hemisphere, especially in in Cuba,' he continued.

The infrastructure projects are especially alarming because they are being built just 50 miles off the shores of the Bahamas.

The arrival of the 17 Chinese nationals this week - 11 men and six females - comes after a shocking new report alleged that there have been more than 100 instances in which U.S. military bases were infiltrated by Chinese nationals.

The Chinese nationals posed as 'tourists' wandered onto a missile launch site in New Mexico, as first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

In addition, some reportedly staged as scuba divers in order to get close to a Florida rocket launch site, while others claimed to be staying on an Army base in Alaska.

Th operatives have reportedly claimed to be tourists who are 'lost' and unable to find their way to a Burger King or McDonalds coincidentally close to a U.S. military base.

Government officials say that Chinese nationals are often 'pressed into service' and required to report their findings back to the Chinese government.

Gimenez commented on the rise in the number of Chinese spies getting access to sensitive military sites.

'We've seen many, many Chinese nationals, saying they're tourists and stuff and they've been photographing sensitive installations,' he told http://dailymail.com
