I'm no fan of O'Connell and know him to be a hater of Creators. I also think he's a bit of a loony with the way he carries on. Nevertheless, reverse what he was convicted of saying to a Jew so that it is instead said to a White man, and apart from many of us already being on the receiving end of such abuse, it turns out it's not a crime. Furthermore, if we do dare to complain about being on the receiving end of racial abuse, we are told to grow a hide, build a bridge and get over it. The typical "Whatever!"

Or, as happened to me, threats of arrest for racial vilification if I attempt to report acts of violent racial vilification perpetrated against myself.

A PERTH man who posted a video online showing him arguing with a Jewish man and calling him a "racist, homicidal maniac'' has been found guilty of racial hatred.

Brendan Lee O'Connell, 38, represented himself before a jury in the Perth District Court after firing the lawyer who had been defending him against an accusation that he posted an anti-semitic video online.

O'Connell faced seven charges related to the posting of a verbal altercation he had with Stanley Keyser and Timothy Peach, who are Jewish, and was found guilty on six.

An argument broke out between the three men at an IGA supermarket in South Perth on May 2, 2009, where a Friends of Palestine group was holding a protest against Israeli oranges.

Mr Peach, 19, told the court during the trial that he was a member of the Australasian Union of Jewish Students at the time and had attended the rally to "observe" and hand out flyers to educate the protesters about Israel.

He said he was "angry", "confused" and "offended" by O'Connell when he started to film the two Jewish men and argue with them about their religion.

During the trial, O'Connell refused to acknowledge Judge Henry Wisbey when he entered the court and, instead, rose to bow to the jury.

About a dozen supporters in the court cheered when O'Connell labelled the proceedings "a kangaroo court" and gave a long, repetitive rant about the King James Bible and the Constitution.

The video that O'Connell posted online was shown on the first day of the trial.

"You have a religion of racism, hate, homicide and ethnic cleansing," O'Connell says to the men on the video.

"You are a racist, homicidal maniac."

When the jury found O'Connell guilty on Friday, he shouted: "Free Palestine! Free Iraq!" before being taken away.

Outside court, Mr Keyser's mother Shelley said it was "a big relief" for the "terrible" ordeal to be over.

O'Connell was remanded in custody and is due to reappear in court on Monday.

Can't say I'm a fan of Mr O'Connell, but reverse the abuse and you've got the life stories of many average White Australians. But then we're told to grow a hide, build a bridge, whatever ... and get over it. Where's the same attitude in return?

I totally agree with Callum [I take it he means me ~ Cailen], anyone that uses public transport will realise this fact, JR of Mandurah, get a life, there are far more serious crimes being committed and our judiciary do nothing.

This man didn't just speak his mind and wasn't locked up for criticizing Israel. He was locked up for making threats against the Jewish community. I am close to the young boy abused in Mr O'Connell's video. He and his family have had to live in fear for 18 months, Mr O'Connell placed the young boys statement to the police on the Internet. I was also in court when he asked the judge if he slept with small children and told the jury that rabbis had bribed the courts to have him convicted. This man is a raging anti Semite and menace society, I am grateful that he is now off he streets.

I completely agree with Cailen Cambeul of Adelaide. I watched this guys youtube video and i dont particularly agree with him and i even agree that his view are abit extreme but still i am still just someone who believes in principals. Where do you draw the line when it comes to freedom of speech?? Australian, comment 9, if this boy really had been living in fear then I would have had no problem if this guy had been charged with making threats, but he wasnt, he was charged with racial vilification. Since when does the government have the right to tell us who we are allowed to like and who we arent allowed to like?? I think everyone should check this guy out and watch all of his videos, https://www.youtube.com/user/IbrahimSiddiqConlon. Some of the things he says in some of those videos boggles my mind as to why he hasnt been charged with hate crimes! Oh wait, yeah thats right, he is muslim so it doesnt count as racist then. This is just nothing but a law that was pressured into existence by political correctness, another example of more of our democratic rights being eroded. A white person would have just been told to build a bridge and just get over it.

re: O'Connell....my under-standing is that he had good advice from some-one i know in Perth who is "hooked up" with the Australian Truth Movement/freeman/common-law but sneeringly ignored it....if he had to accept it, then, he might have beaten these bogus "charges"!....if not in that court then, almost certainly, before Appeals Justices!

WA prisoners get "remissions for good behaviour", so, not sure how long he'll actually "serve"....maybe eighteen months, if he gets "parole"

Family friend Steve Lieblich told reporters it was a "very distressing" time for the Keyser family who were happy to have it over.

"I think it was a victory for decency and against bigotry and prejudice," he said.

"On this occasion it was the Jewish people who were the target of this bigotry but on future occasions it could be Muslims or Asians or any group, so we we should all be happy about this result."

Mr Lieblich said he hoped O'Connell would have time to reflect on his views during his prison term.

He said the internet made it easy to "spread hatred" and it was important to address the issue.

"This has got nothing to do with free speech," Mr Lieblich said.

"There's clearly a limit to free speech, there's a limit to all freedoms we have in society because we have to consider others.

"Words can hurt and cause a lot of damage and people need to recognise that they have to watch their words"

There's a limit to free speech- if that speech is not directed towards a White person expressing their opinion.  Should that be the case, the person can be derided as a racist, homophobic, holocaust denier who would probably own a slave if slavery were still legal - and have no recourse under the law.

We, as a race, need to force this double standard to be addressed in the highest courts - or simply change the mentality of the people until a case like this is laughed out of the court room.
