Woolworths : Pig's Head Incident Appalling

Cape Town - Retailer Woolworths said it was appalled by the actions of Congress of SA Students members who placed a pig's head in the kosher section of the store's Sea Point, Cape Town, branch.

A photo of a man putting the head down amongst other meat went viral on Friday, causing people on social media to react in anger.

"Placing a pig's head in our store is unacceptable and offensive to our employees and customers, including Jewish and Muslim employees and customers," Paula Disberry, Woolworths group director of retail operations said in a statement.

"We are investigating this incident and we will consider our options to prevent such distasteful protests in our stores.

"We will destroy any halaal products that may be affected and take any other appropriate measures. There were no kosher food products on the affected shelf.

Disberry said the incident was isolated to its Fort Road store in Sea Point.

In a statement released by Cosas, the body said it supported the call by Boycott Divest and Sanctioning Israel (BDSI) to not buy from Woolworths.

BDSI distances selves from Cosas actions

"We are not being bombastic when we say will bring the supporters of Israel pigs - we are being revolutionary," Cosas in the Western Cape said.

However, BDSI distanced itself from Cosas's actions.

"We believe that the methods used, namely placing pigs heads in South African Woolworths stores, are very controversial and may not have been properly thought through.

"It may be argued that the placing of pig heads is a form of militant human rights action however there is a great amount of sensitivity surrounding Halaal and Kosher food.

"The pig heads have now effectively made various Woolworths Stores a complete no-go zone for those that buy Kosher or Halaal as those areas are now contaminated," said in a statement.

The SA Jewish Board of Deputies was also disgusted by Cosas's actions.

"Disregarding all standards of basic decency, (Cosas) [on Friday] chose to send an ugly message to the Jewish community of South Africa," the board's Wendy Kahn said.

The retailer has previously said that less than 0.1% of its products are sourced in Israel.

Malema : We're Bringing 50 000 To Joburg

Johannesburg (Liberal nest in the Transvaal) - The Economic Freedom Fighters are preparing to bring 50 000 of its "fighters" from around the country to march on the Gauteng legislature in Joburg. Speaking on the eve of the party's first anniversary on Saturday, leader Julius Malema said the party would not be bullied by the ANC. "We are not schoolboys. We have taken a decision that we will bring 50 000 people here. "Undermining the EFF in Gauteng is undermining the EFF around the country. We are a unitary organisation. We are going back to that legislature and we are going to fight." EFF members protested this week against the decision of legislature Speaker Ntombi Mekgwe to prevent eight MPLs from entering the chamber while dressed in their red overalls and domestic workers' attire. "They know us. We will teach them a lesson because we were not being disruptive. If the ANC had accepted overalls, today overalls would not have been an issue. "We fought for this right to protest, and so we are coming to Johannesburg with a full force."

Addressing hundreds of EFF supporters and students at the launch of the book, The Coming Revolution, at Wits University Great Hall on Thursday night, Malema said EFF leaders decided to write the book because they did not want others to distort their ideas on socialism. "We are writing our own book, because we don't want our story to be written by a young white person," he said, in a veiled reference to Nelson Mandela's former PA Zelda la Grange, who launched her book Good Morning, Mr Mandela recently. "We have let our story be told by some young white kids who have no history in the Struggle. We were more agitated by the fact that some people have written books with regard to nationalisation, without the perspective of the EFF. We wrote our own book because we want our people to read a reliable story, and not a distortion." Malema urged his audience to prioritise education and not materialism. (yeah right ... while this fat nigger lives in luxury) This, he said, was the viable means to defeat "white monopoly capital". "An educated nation is a liberated nation. We want you to compete with qualifications and not names of jeans. We want a knowledgeable society with qualifications. We don't want people who compete with material, we want people who compete with knowledge." ( ... which the niggers are unable to do, thats why they enforce affirmative action, equality the nigger way)

I agree, but that being said - when your back is against the wall you need a clear and cool head. We`ve had several attempts to overthrow the communist government, the Boeremag being the most recent - where did it get the White Racialists ? In prison, some of the best guys are behind bars. The correct thing to do imo is to get ready, as a matter of fact, if you`re a White Racialist in South Africa you should have been ready long ago, at least ten years ago. When the commies collapse all hell will break lose and then will be the correct time to act. In the meantime, if not already done, put in place emergency plans, get survival gear and most important, band together with like-minded people

Mandela Was Ready To Kill For SA - Malema

Pretoria - Late former president Nelson Mandela was ready to kill for this country, EFF leader Julius Malema said on Thursday. He said, as a leader of Umkhonto we Sizwe, Mandela was one of the first people to be trained on how to use arms. "You don't take up arms and go and kiss people," said Malema. "You pick up arms to kill ... Madiba was ready to kill for this country." He was speaking at a public lecture at the University of Limpopo's Medunsa campus situated in Ga-Rankuwa outside Pretoria. He urged the youth to follow in Mandela's footsteps. "Black people who are in business with white people are economy security guards," Malema said. His comment was met by loud applause and laughter. "They are protecting the interests of white people," he said.

Numsa Threatens SA With Power Blackout

South Africa could face a complete blackout, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa warned on Wednesday in response to a court interdict against a strike at Eskom. South Africa could face a complete blackout, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) warned on Wednesday in response to a court interdict against a strike at Eskom. The union would embark on an unprotected strike if Eskom did not meet its demand of at least a double-digit increase, Numsa head of collective bargaining Stephen Nhlapo said during a protest outside the power utility's Megawatt Park headquarters in Sunninghill, Johannesburg. The power utility has obtained a court interdict to prevent its workers from striking because it is designated an essential service provider. Nhlapo said the union would not be intimidated if Eskom threatened mass dismissals. "There is not going to be load shedding. It will be total blackout."

The interdict interfered with workers' constitutionally enshrined right to strike, he said. One lane of Maxwell Drive, outside Megawatt Park, was blocked as Numsa members sat in the road, singing and clapping, as metro police kept watch. Numsa is demanding a single-year wage deal with a 12% increase and a R1 000 housing allowance. Nhlapo said the purpose of the picket was to pressure Eskom to negotiate in good faith. Eskom has reportedly offered 5,6%, but declined to confirm this, saying the wage negotiations were confidential. Asked to comment on the potential effect of an Eskom strike on the economy, Nhlapo said there was no economy without workers. "The economy has been collapsing without us going on strike. You can't blame it on workers. If workers don't have buying power, the economy will collapse." He dismissed Eskom's present offer as a "wage cut", saying it was below inflation.

EFF won't follow rules – Malema

The Economic Freedom Fighters are in Parliament to pursue a revolution, not rules, party leader Julius Malema said on Friday, as his supporters staged an all-day protest outside the legislature. "I'm not here for rules of Parliament. I'm here for a revolution," Malema told journalists at Parliament. "We are not going to sit back and allow a situation where a revolution is undermined in the name of rules." The fiery EFF leader said his party would not follow parliamentary rules "created by colonialists and imperialists". Malema said he was taking legal advice following National Council of Provinces chairwoman Thandi Modise's warning that he could face disciplinary steps. "We'll take it to court. There is nothing wrong with this [statement that the] ANC government murdered people in Marikana," Malema said. "At least in court we'll get a neutral person who is not an ANC deployee."

Barbs fly in the battle of the unions

Everyone agrees there is something pretty strange going on at the Port of Ngqura outside Port Elizabeth. They differ in three ways on where the strangeness stems from, though. Is this an early preparation for the violent overthrow of the government in 2019 ? Is it proof that the ANC is treating a parastatal like a political chess piece ? Or is the strangeness because workers are being fooled into replicating in the transport sector what is happening in the platinum sector ? It doesn't help – or give much hope for the direction in which labour relations are heading this strike season – that the parties involved who do not deal in disinformation cite a need for secrecy, that the real action plays out behind security fences and in the dead of night, and that everyone accuses everyone else of lying.

On strike

Workers at Ngqura, a port that functions largely as a trans-shipment hub while the Coega industrial development zone develops around it, have been on strike for eight weeks. How many workers ? More than 400, say members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) gathered outside the gates, a group in itself some 40 people strong. Enough to cause operations to be severely hampered. A little over 100, says port operator Transnet, and shipments are being handled just fine. The strike has been blamed for criminal acts against working Transnet employees, with arson and allegations of intimidation, something not previously seen in similar industrial action in the area. Who is responsible for the violence ? Well, Numsa of course, says fellow Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) affiliate the South African Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu), the majority union at the terminal and one of only two recognised by Transnet for the purposes of negotiations. The arson is self-inflicted, say the Numsa members, by employees who believed the rumours that Transnet would replace cars and houses that were set alight; and the claims of intimidation are exactly – and only – that: claims.

Bread-and-butter issues

Why are the Numsa workers striking ? Because of bread-and-butter employment issues, say those picketing, including a unilateral change in the duration of shifts and unfair deductions to pay for their company-arranged commute. For no particular reason it can detect, says Transnet, and certainly not because of "strike-able" issues. But there is a more sinister, if perhaps fanciful, explanation for why those workers have downed tools, according to Satawu: because ports are an entry point for weapons and there are forces in South Africa that will, in the not-too-distant future, require the import of weapons. "We are reliably informed that, as part of Numsa's strategy, they are now in bed with Amcu [the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, best known for its strike on the platinum belt] and the EFF [the Economic Freedom Fighters]," Satawu spokesperson Vincent Masoga told the Mail & Guardian. "The political motives of these three organisations are similar: to destabilise the country, to prepare South Africa for a 2019 Arab-style revolution. And they want a way they can freely have their rogue friends bringing illegal arms [into] the country." Numsa, in return, accused Satawu of dreaming up such allegations with the help of "intelligence elements in the state".
