I've had a few 253 V8's in 1970's era GM Holdens. A small but powerful motor that didn't chew much more juice than the average Straight 6 (202 and 186) of the time.

The v engine is more fuel efficient because it has its pistons placed at opposite ends of each other and at 45 degree angles creating a v shape, which deflects the forces created by the reciprocating motion of the pistons and reduces vibrations, increasing engine efficiency by ensuring that more power is transmitted to the wheels instead of being wasted by generating vibrations.
