I've got a question: What is a supercharger supposed to do? Is it meant to make takeoff faster? Or just add to the top speed?

Here's a 2005 GM Holden VZ V6 Alloytec that is supercharged. It's the same model as mine, same everything under the bonnet, but mine is not supercharged. It has a factory standard naturally aspirated engine. Although I have not taken mine above 190KPH, 0 to 100 is about the same numbers: 6 Seconds. So what's the supercharger on the one in the video supposed to do? I'm not interested in getting my car supercharged ... just curious as to why supercharged makes no difference by my standard.

Mine: 235 hp (175 kW; 238 PS) @ 6000 rpm - 236 lb⋅ft (320 N⋅m) @ 2800 rpm

60KPH = 35MPH
100KPH = 65MPH
100MPH = 160KPH

If it wasn't for speed radars and coppers, I'd probably cruise the highways at 170KPH. I was comfortable with 130KPH on my Honda Rebel - it left me with enough to wrap it on and get past problems if needed.

Aviation Gas - does it still work/is it still safe in modern cars?

I was only 18: It was 88 when I got my first motorcycle, and I rode the hundred or so klicks down to the drag strip to watch the races at Willowbank Raceway - QLD Australia. It was near a civilian airstrip, and an airforce airport I'd later get to visit in handcuffs on my way to an army cell. Anyway, they had avgas. I chucked some in my *ty little rattling 250 Kwaka LTD single with the exhaust hacksawed in half, and it gave me an extra 15KMH boost on the way home.

Of course, I wasn't the only one. Everyone filled up with avgas. Mates at the time had: A Ford XA 302, Ford XB 302, a few Ford 351 XY GTHO Phase 3's, an XY 302 Ute, a totally illegal Ford Escort with a 351 Windsor fitted (that was later abandoned with a brick on the accelerator/gas and all doors locked for the police to handle while it spun about and the driver ran), a HK GM Holden GTS Monaro 327 Chev, HQ GM Holden GTS Monaro 350 Chev, HQ 253, HT GM Holden 308 Australian motor, and HT straight 6, a probably illegal EH GM Holden 307 Chev with apparently some type of "Canadian Chev" block (maybe it was high compression?), and an early 70's HEMI straight 6 Charger (extra video) ... and they all reckoned their cars ran better on the avgas.

Our petrol in those days was Standard, Super and Unleaded. There was also a mix of Super/Unleaded - but it wasn't allowed in every state.

Answering My Own Question: If your car or bike is old - from back in the carb era - use avgas and get the boost.

The octane rating for fuel indicates the amount of anti-knock fuel additives mixed into the fuel.

Anti-knock fuel additives are mixed in to prevent a phenomenon called engine knocking where the fuel prematurely ignites when too much fuel is pumped into the combustion chamber during the compression stroke. This happens because the fuel heats up when it is compressed, so if too much fuel goes into the combustion chamber, it could ignite before the compression stroke is over and the ignition stroke begins. This is dangerous, even for fuel injected engines, because during the compression stroke, the intake valves are still open which could cause the fire to reach the fuel line and fuel tank. The anti-knock fuel additive raises the auto-ignition temperature of the fuel so that engine knocking does not occur.

Anti-knock fuel additives were invented by an American named Thomas Midgely in the 1920s.

However, the anti-knock fuel additives that Midgely invented contained tetra-ethyl-lead which is toxic and a source of air pollution, so in 1975, US oil companies introduced unleaded gas, which is gasoline that uses anti-knock additives that are free of tetra-ethyl-lead, to remedy the problem.

I got the answer, and it's so simple, I should have guessed it ....

People are buying bogus parts online that do not work and installing them on their vehicles. There are plenty of cheap superchargers available on the web for under $200 that will not only not improve the performance of your vehicle, but will also retard the performance of your vehicle. Perhaps the bloke in the video got lucky and his fitted el cheapo supercharger simply did nothing at all.
