Title: Alcohol Dependence
Post by: David on Thu 19 Nov 2009
Any suggestions from long time Creativity people on how to overcome what I would call alcohol dependence?
Many Thanks,
Dave

Ritualistic behaviour can often cut down on alcohol intake and therefore help to remove dependence on alcohol through drinking less.

You can set periods such as never before 6 pm and after 10 pm on six days of the week, leaving only Saturday for midday to midnight.

Drink as slowly as possible (sip and appreciate the flavour of your drinks) and change your poison to something with a lower alcohol content. If you drink cheap wine, change to a more expensive wine and develop a discretionary pallet. i.e. Go through the motions of tasting your wine like a snob before you buy it or drink it. Always buy your wine from the cellar door (a winery) so you can taste it and question the sales person (if they can't tell you a little background information about the grapes used or the blending, then that's not good enough for you) - liquor stores are for the common. Always open the bottle at least four hours and allow it to breathe before you drink it, and make sure the wine is at the right temperature.

Same with beers - but always cold and freshly opened ;) Change to something with class or learn how to brew your own Salubrious Low Alcohol Beer. Build up a stock and refuse to drink anything else other than very expensive wheat beers from Bavaria - often known as White Beer.

There are also non-alcoholic beers which if you drink ice cold, taste the same as almost anything else. If beer is your thing, then stock your fridge full of them. They are perfect if you intend to drive or go elsewhere that alcohol is inappropriate to partake of before or during the event.

If you have spirits, collect them along with cocktail books and put them in a liquor cabinet or a home bar. The more dust on the whisky bottles, the older and better they are - especially single malt whisky. So no touching them!

If your an addicted to something then your a slave .  Keep that in mind and use the anger to help rid yourself .  I quit smoking for 5 years and used family court problems as an excuse .  I am gearing up to quit again .  I am buying another punching bag ,  and when ever the slave master (cigarettes) come calling I will punch that bag till I am exhausted.  If you do this remember to use hand wraps or you will cause never damage in your hand .  I have that damage in my left hand .

To be honest I advise PM Cambeul's process along with mine .  As alcohol causes physical effects where as cigs are just psychological .  Also try some meetings .
