Extract: Former UKIP Leader Nigel Farage has hit out at Sadiq Khan's lack of leadership amid the rapid increase in violent crime in the capital city, arguing that the mayor's political correctness is costing lives.

Appearing on Fox News, where the South East of England MEP is a contributor, he said that the reason London is suffering from more violent crime than New York City is that the mayor is not leading from the front and is too politically correct to tackle the crime.

Further to this point, Farage pointed out that the police have stopped using the 'stop & search' technique on suspects for fear of appearing racist if they have to stop a black person.

When asked if he was 'stunned' by the latest crime statistics which show the UK overtaking New York in crime rates, he said: "No, I'm afraid the rise of violent crime in London has been going on now for some years.

"It isn't just gun crime; there's been a 40% rise in knife crime over the last decade and the new phenomenon of acid attacks.

"This is not about rules; it's about policing. We used to have something called stop and search where the police would stop a suspect to see whether they were carrying a knife.

"We've stopped doing that, do you know why? Because the police are too fearful of being thought to be racist if they pick up somebody who's black.

"So what you've now got is political correctness killing people in London."

London bloodbath: Boy stabbed in broad daylight in Walthamstow in FIFTH attack in 24 hours

A teenage boy, 16, was stabbed in broad daylight at around 3.20pm on Markhouse Road.

Scotland Yard is awaiting an update on the victim's condition.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Police were called at approximately 15:17hrs to reports of a fight between a number of youths on Markhouse road, E17.

"Officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service.

A STABBING in Walthamstow, London, has left a teenage boy injured as the London crimewave continues to plague the city.

"A male aged 16 was found with a stab injury. He has been taken to an east London hospital where we await an update on his condition.

"A crime scene is in place."

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

There have been several stabbings over the bank holiday weekend with a woman in her 60s stabbed in Bow on Friday and a second woman in her 50s stabbed last night.

Also, there was a double stabbing in Harrow last night.

London has seen a spike in violent crime this year with the murder rate overtaking that of New York in February and March.

Shaun Bailey, Member of the London Assembly and deputy leader of the Conservative Greater London Authority Group, claimed fear was growing across London.

Mr Bailey told Express.co.uk: "It's frightening to see that London isn't getting any safer. Fear in communities is growing across London, they are saddled with the belief that if you step out of your front door, your life is at stake.

"Everyday fear is one thing but the damaging after affect for the families and communities is life changing and profound.

"It saddens me that the Mayor is not taking enough swift action to divert the sadness and loss our innocent communities are continuously facing."

The London Mayor, who was elected to office in May 2016, has been blamed for not taking enough action to curb increases in crime.

London Metropolitan Police statistics show offences in July 2016 totalled 68,235 and in July 2018 totalled 74,487, a 9.2 percent increase.
