NOTTING Hill Carnival was in full flow again today with the majority of revellers enjoying the festivities peacefully - but how many arrests have the police had to make at the event so far?

The rainy Sunday did not deter performers or crowds on Bank Holiday Monday who united in technicolored costumes during London's biggest celebration of Caribbean culture.

Orange-feathered dancers clad in jewels mixed with steel band drummers while dancers doused one other another with bright-hued powder as floats traversed through west London's streets.

An estimated one million people are believed to have flocked to the carnival over the August Bank Holiday weekend, although police said the rain had put off some people.

Attendees are by and large peaceful but a large police presence has been in place following outbursts of violence on previous years.

As of 4pm Monday, August 27, there have been 79 arrests, so far.

The offences include four assaults on a police officer, one drink driving offence, 20 incidents of possession of an offensive weapon/pointed blade, 40 drug offences, one sexual offence, one robbery, one ABH, four psychoactive drugs and seven offences listed as "other".

A total of 133 people were arrested on Sunday, according to the latest Met Police figures.

Police recovered 16 knives on the same day.

Forty-two people were detained for drug offences, twenty on suspicion of possessing offensive weapons and seven on public order charges.

Scotland Yard said an additional two people were arrested on suspicion of sexual offences, three on common assault charges and 12 on suspicion of possessing psychoactive drugs.

A section 60 order has been put in place across the geographical area of the festival between 9am and 11.59pm tonight.

The order allows officers greater powers relating to stop and searches.

Notting Hill Carnival Gold Commander Dave Musker said: "On Sunday, my officers along with colleagues from the British Transport Police arrested 133 individuals for a range of offences and 20 weapons were seized, including knives.

EARLY risers kicked off Notting Hill Carnival with a street party and parade this morning as police set up strict terrorism measures to avoid carnage

With more than a million people expected to attend the Bank Holiday carnival, police have been kitted out with acid attack packs and knife arches for the first time ever in an attempt to stop weapons being taken into the crowds.

Steel barriers, concrete blocks and security boards have also been set up to stop revellers causing damage to millionaire's homes and shops along the route.

David McClure, a workman installing boards, said his company, AES, will erect boards in front of around 160 shops - double than a decade ago.

He said: "We started on Thursday, we have to do today and we have about 160 shops to board up.
