European farmers would 'RIOT in the STREETS if Brussels imposes trade barriers on UK'

SIR Bernard Jenkin claimed that EU farmers and food producers would not allow the European Union to put up barriers between them and the UK after Brexit, despite industry "feeding the government a diet of doom and alarm".

Brexiteer Bernard Jenkin said that there would be "rioting on the streets" by EU farmers if they were not easily able to sell their goods to the UK after Brexit during a BBC interview.

Mr Jenkin, the Conservative MP for Harwich and North Essex told BBC Radio 4 Today: "What will happen to the quarter of Dutch poultry farmers who sell their goods to the UK?

"Or the 1/5 of Spanish tomatoes that come to the UK? What will happen to those producers if the European Union insists on putting up all these barriers?

"I mean there would be rioting on the streets at this perverse behaviour."

Mr Jenkin added: "Under the EU Withdrawal Act we have imported all of the EU's regulatory standards so every product on sale in the UK market, every product made in the UK market conforms with EU standards.

"We can informally assure the EU that that will continue for as long as it is necessary.

"Therefore they do not need to put in religious zealotry checking at the borders of everything leaving the United Kingdom."

The Tory Brexiteer said warnings over Britain's future if it leaves the European Union without a deal were like fears over the millennium bug.

It'll be interesting to see how Brexit pans out give it 5-10 years. Sounds like Australia has managed a free trade deal with UK, problem is getting stuff takes time and is Labourious.
Trump is keen to trade with UK post Brexit.

Who knows? Could there be a "5 eyes" free trade union?
