Title: Any other folks of full or partial Baltic descent?
Post by: PatTracy on Fri 20 Nov 2009
This thread looks a little sparse. If someone could post some info about Lithuania I would greatly appreciate it. I am interested to know about the language, tourist info, where is good to visit, pointers for tourists, etc. I've seen some pictures and know some history but very little. Thanks in advance.

I used to know a doctor from Lithuania. From what I understood from him a large proportion of the population spent time from 1945 until some time in the fifties in Soviet concentration camps. It's possible that you should find a healthy anti-communist community, especially considering that Lithuania was occupied by Russian troops from 1945 until 1993.

Language: All male first names seem to end in ...is and surnames end in ...as.

History: http://www.omnitel.net/ramunas/Lietuva/lt_history.shtml (http://www.omnitel.net/ramunas/Lietuva/lt_history.shtml)

Tourism: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/lithuania (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/lithuania) (Lonely Planet has to be good. It once mentioned the WCOTC in one of its pamphlets about the USA.)

I study indo-european migrations/culture etc and I know a little about lithuania but not much
the lithuanian language has the oldest indo-european roots in it's purest form of all IE languages it shares many pre-sanskrit roots and I believe there culture at first was similar to indo-aryan vedic culture
as far as mythology they shared the world tree view with germanics but there pantheon was vastly different

lithuania has some very cool architecture as well if you look at any of their old churches

also all slavs have baltic blood in them as the original slavs became balto-slavs
