Death to the Gods

Death to the Gods

In the infancy of man, ignorance and stupidity of the magnificent world around him was commonplace. Barely smarter than the monkey who looked so much like him, man was oblivious of the myriad laws that govern the universe. This pitiful creature was terrified of the vast unknowns that seemed to stalk him. All that was important at the time was surviving the harsh realities of a savage land filled with menacing beasts that hungered for his flesh. In light of such difficulties, complex questions dealing with the nature of the universe were given very simple answers.

Thus, gods were born from the undeveloped mind of the brute. A constant state of fulminatory warfare left little time for scientific research, so the people generally accepted the man-made gods. Tradition saw to it that even when the time came to carefully examine the world around us, the great thinkers usually accepted whatever gods were in fashion while their research into nature revealed the absurdity of the gods. Unfortunately, even today there are those who docilely accept these mythical creatures despite their lack of validity. Despite all the great tomes of knowledge that we possess, we are still plagued with the decadent disease of blind faith that prevents many of our comrades from soaring into the higher realms of existence.

I think it is safe to assume that every group of people in the world has invented a plethora of imaginary gods. At times, polytheism was riding high among the masses, but currently we are at an epoch where if one does traipse off to the supernatural dimension, it is to a realm consisting of one god.

It is all a delusion of ignorance, though, and a flight to fantasy. It matters little whether one calls a god "Odin", "Zeus", or "Yahweh", as all are baseless claims of fancy. Gods have been known to represent virtually all facets of human existence yet not one has ever surfaced to bring validity to its name. Just as a trial must prove that the accused is guilty, the claimer of gods must prove his gods exist. For an all-powerful god, it would seem simple to reveal itself to the world while performing several miracles to convince the skeptics. It is quite easy to ascertain why this hasn't happened.

A bad harvest devastates a village; a heroic victory is achieved by the rousing words of a leader; tremors violently shake the earth while lightning further pounds away at the fragile ground. All these events and many more are nominally attributed to the whims of the gods by those who indulge in irrational superstition. Instead of looking into the exact scientific causes of such events, they seek to appease their gods in the hopes of increasing fortune while limiting cold despair. Immolations of beasts, money, or prayers are offered and expected to help, while seeking out the core of events is regarded with an evil glare.

Throughout the eras of human reality, there have been energetic bolts of resistance to the doctrine of superstition. These crusaders of science tend to be persecuted for their "heretical" investigation, but we have learned, and will continue to learn, the mysteries of nature. Although we may never unravel all the intricate webs that govern the universe, we should certainly concentrate our energy in this area, rather than float around in a mire of nonsensical beliefs.

If we believe that the gods are supreme, then we will never be able to properly excel due to the belief that we cannot surpass the gods in greatness. Therefore, these shackles the gods have imposed on us, must be shattered with effervescent might. Once free, we must destroy the abode of the gods altogether so that our people can thrive in a land of reason, logic, and common sense. The slaughter must be thorough and complete, so that not one of our comrades remains who is crippled by the worship of spooks. Only the liberation from the tyranny of the gods can lead us to the acme of scientific thought and salvation. The battering ram of Creativity must pound, pound, pound, these nefarious prisons until only a pile of rubbish remains. That day will indeed be a golden day of triumph.
