Say goodbye to the General Lee as you've always known it.

In the wake of the deadly South Carolina shooting and the decision by several major retailers to stop selling merchandise featuring the Confederate battle flag, the toy spawned by the hit TV series "Dukes of Hazzard" that became a Southern icon wearing those colors will no longer be produced.

Maaaan! it is almost like nobody believes there is Black and White in the Territory the lemmings up here seem to believe "we are all human beings". They have such a "hippy/left/fem mentality" that they'll put up with anything even though the behaviour is absurd! It cheeses me right off!

THE Northern Territory's Chief Justice says harsher jail sentences will not reduce crime across the Top End.


"Where a crime has been committed we must look to rehabilitation of the offender in order to reduce recidivism."


Chief Justice Riley said Aboriginal people were subjected to particular injustices in the criminal justice system.

He said it was a tragedy that Aboriginal people comprised 30 per cent of the population, but represented 86.4 per cent of those in custody.

"It is a tragedy that, in 2010, 73 per cent of indigenous prisoners received into the Territory's prisons were unem-ployed,'' he said. "It is a tragedy that indigenous females make up 73 per cent of domestic violence victims in the Northern Territory."

Chief Justice Riley said while there was no single answer, "addressing health, education and opportunity for coming generations must be a good place to start".

The Citizenship Act already allows the automatic stripping of citizenship from someone who fights for foreign armies against Australia, but it will be expanded to include banned terrorist groups.

'As Australians, we will never, ever, sacrifice our freedoms, but we will defend them - that's what this legislation is all about,' Mr Abbott said.The joint houses committee on intelligence and security will consider whether the laws should be made retrospective.

THE White House says President Barack Obama doesn't regret using the N-word to make a point about racial progress in an interview. 
 
Spokesman Josh Earnest said the White House isn't surprised that the president uttering a word used as a racial slur would stir controversy.

But Earnest said Mr Obama didn't plan in advance to use the word to be provocative.

He said Mr Obama was speaking in a free-flowing, casual interview for a podcast and trying to make the point that ending racism is about more than manners.

Obama said that just because people realise it's not polite to use the racial slur in public doesn't mean that racism is "cured".

Obama dropped the N-word in a poignant lament about racism and gun violence in the United States, as he praised Australia's tough gun laws.
