Excerpt: Speaking at a press conference in Sydney on Friday, Ms Ardern criticised the Coalition's deportation laws which send Kiwi criminals back to New Zealand no matter how long they have lived in Australia.


Ms Ardern has always argued that people who have lived in a country for 10 years or more shouldn't be deported after committing a crime.

The New Zealand prime minister acknowledged the Australian Government is well within its rights to deport people who break our laws, but had 'one simple request' for Mr Morrison.

'Send back genuine Kiwis, do not deport your people and your problems,' she told Mr Morrison and reporters during the tense conference.

Australia has deported more than 4000 people, including 1500 New Zealanders, since the laws were introduced in 2014.

Under Section 501 of the Migration Act, a foreigner in Australia can have their visa cancelled on character grounds if they have been jailed for 12 months or longer.

Then there is Section 116 of the same law which gives the Immigration Minister the power to have someone deported if they are regarded as a threat to public safety.

A threat to public safety can mean anything the JOG wants. Anyone that has parents born overseas or with parents with dual citizenship can be deported. I am not permitted entry into the US due to anti-Semitism laws; I am not permitted entry into New Zealand; I am not permitted entry into Europe; and I am actually not permitted entry into the UK with an Australian passport, unless I lay claim to rights based on my parents being born in Scotland and enter on a British passport. And THAT is why I can be seized and deported to the UK at any time.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has accused Australia of shirking its responsibilities after cancelling the citizenship of a dual-national ISIS bride caught fleeing Syria this week

Ms Ardern fumed that Australian counterpart Scott Morrison had left her to 'shoulder the responsibility' of dealing with 26-year-old Suhayra Aden and her two children, despite the fact that she has not lived in New Zealand since she was six.
She has resided in Australia since that time, has her family in Australia and left for Syria from Australia on her Australian passport,' she said.

'Coming to New Zealand, where they have no immediate family, would not be in their best interests.'

But Mr Morrison defended his position, saying: 'We do not want to see terrorists who fought with terrorism organisations enjoying privileges of citizenship, which I think they forfeit the second they engage as an enemy of our country.'

Aden was born and grew up in New Zealand but came to Australia and was living in Melbourne when she fled the country in 2014 to join ISIS in Syria.

While there she was married to two Swedish ISIS converts and had three children, one of whom previously died of pneumonia, ABC reports.

She was arrested on Monday evening while trying to cross the border from Idlib province in Syria, where she had been living, to Turkey.

Her two children, aged two and five, were arrested alongside her.

'Three New Zealand nationals trying to enter our country from Syria illegally were caught by border staff in Reyhanli district of Hatay,' Turkey's defence ministry said.

'It was determined that a 26-year-old woman named SA, who was among those arrested, was a terrorist from [ISIS].'

Australia revoked Aden's citizenship last year, before she was arrested, despite objections that Ms Ardern had raised with Mr Morrison.

'I never believe that the right response was to simply have a race to revoke people's citizenship ... We will put our hands up when we need to own the situation, we expected the same of Australia,' she said. 'They did not act in good faith.'

I think a lot of people are tired of this "do- Gooder"! What's so hard to understand? If you have another citizenship and you're found to be a terrorist, then Australia cancels your citizenship on character grounds. NZ gives passports to too many muds that wind up in Australia, break the law then get deported back to NZ. And they grizzle about caring for them despite them being their citizens!

As if we don't have enough problems of our own ...
