Mailbomb blitz: Packages sent to Obama, Soros, CNN, Clintons & others
In the last 48 hours, explosive devices have been sent to the homes and offices of numerous high-profile Democratic political figures, as well as CNN's New York office.

The seemingly ever-growing list of targets includes former President Barack Obama, former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, top Democratic donor George Soros, former DCCC chief and Florida congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and CNN's New York offices.

Speaking at an NYPD press conference, New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said that the events of the day were "clearly an act of terror" an "effort to terrorize leaders of this country through acts of violence". De Blasio said New Yorkers could "rest assured" that the NYPD are "out in force" to protect the city. He also blamed an "atmosphere of hate" taking over in the run up to the midterm elections.

Here's what we know so far about the mailbomb blitz.

Soros mailbox bomb
On Tuesday, police said they destroyed a suspected explosive device found at the New York residence of Hungarian-American billionaire and major liberal donor George Soros. A team was sent to the residence after an employee of Soros opened the package at around 3:45 pm on Monday and found a device which looked like a pipe bomb, but police said that there was no threat to public safety.

Soros is a major Trump critic and donor to the Democratic party. While he has accused Trump of aiming to build a "mafia state" in the US, Trump has returned fire, accusing him of fuelling public unrest in the US, including protests against the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

In a New York Times op-ed, Soros' son Alexander blamed Trump and the "politics of demonizing opponents" for the bomb packages. Alexander Soros wrote that the incidents were a threat "to the future of American democracy."

Obama and Clinton residences
News broke on Wednesday morning of potential explosive devices sent to the residence of former president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton in Chappaqua, New York — and to the home of former President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C.

The Secret Service confirmed that the packages were intercepted and "immediately identified" during routine mail screening procedures and said the the Clintons and Obamas were never at risk of receiving them.

CNN mailroom device
Later on Wednesday, CNN's newsroom in New York's Time Warner Center was evacuated after a suspicious package containing a pipe bomb was found in the mailroom. Around the same time, conflicting reports emerged of devices being sent to the White House, but those were not confirmed. Video posted to Twitter showed evacuation alarms sounding behind CNN hosts on air.

CNN reported that the device was made with pipes and wires. The NYPD later confirmed that "an envelope containing white powder" was also sent with the pipe bomb. It also said that the device had been addressed to former CIA director John Brennan, care of CNN, with a return address of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Florida office. Wasserman's office also received a suspicious device later in the day.

The device sent to CNN was removed and placed in a bomb containment unit.

Police told NBC that all four devices sent to Obama, Soros, the Clintons and CNN are "nearly identical."

Wasserman-Schultz office
Police on Wednesday also confirmed that they were investigating another possible suspicious package sent to the Sunrise, Florida office of Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Footage online showed a bomb squad unit and firefighters arriving at the building, but it has not yet been confirmed that any viable device was found.

Kamala Harris and San Diego Tribune 'false alarm'
In the midst of the unfolding drama, the building which houses the office of Democratic Congresswoman Kamala Harris and the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper was also evacuated over the discovery of what was initially believed to be a suspicious package, but which turned out to be abandoned property.

Andrew Cuomo office
In the latest reported scare, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that a suspicious device was also sent to his office in Manhattan and was "being handled" by the NYPD, but it was later confirmed that the package was not a bomb and was unrelated to the other incidents.

Capitol Police have also confirmed another suspicious device was intercepted at the Congressional Mail facility in Maryland, saying that it was addressed to Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters.

President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence condemned the sending of the devices as "despicable" acts and said that the "cowards" responsible would be found.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said a "major federal investigation" into the incidents was underway. He said the country had to "unify" and "come together" and condemned acts and threats of political violence, saying they had "no place" in the US.

"This egregious conduct is abhorrent to everything we hold dear and sacred as Americans," he said, adding: "We're extremely angry, upset, and unhappy about what we witnessed this morning."

Online, speculation abounds as some pundits have been quick to pin the blame on President Trump, citing the fact that so far, all recipients of the potential explosive devices have been highly critical of his administration. Others have suggested the bomb-planting spree has been some kind of false flag intended to benefit Democrats in the upcoming November midterm elections.

New suspicious package prompts LA mail facility evacuation, reportedly addressed to Maxine Waters
A suspicious package has triggered evacuation at a mail facility in south Los Angeles, according to media citing local police. The package was reportedly addressed to Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters.

A bomb squad has been dispatched to the scene. Los Angeles Police Department and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the package.

The FBI has confirmed there were two suspicious packages, both addressed to Rep. Maxine Waters. Earlier, one had been intercepted in Maryland on its way to Waters' office. That one was not mentioned in the FBI's press release.

The bomb was discovered as Trump has been calling for the bomber to be brought to justice, assuring "the full weight of our government" is behind the investigation. "Acts or threats of political violence have no place of any kind in the United States of America," he announced after meeting with the FBI, Justice Department, and DHS.

The earlier confirmed bombs, including one sent to George Soros on Monday night, were constructed with PVC pipe, which x-rays showed contained shrapnel, an explosive, and timers. Senior bomb technicians confirmed all the components required to detonate the devices were present. However, none of the bombs actually exploded.

Democrats blamed Trump, pointing out that every package recipient – Waters, Soros, Clinton, Obama, Holder, Wasserman-Schultz, and Brennan – was on the president's unofficial "enemies list," regularly coming in for criticism at rallies and on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Republicans brought up the fact that the bombs had all been safely discovered before doing any damage, suggesting the "attacks" might have been a ploy to garner sympathy (and votes) for the Democrats ahead of the election.

Indications that the bomb threats are a False Flag event staged by Obama/Hillary supporters are that nobody has died, the MSM are blaming Trump and so-called White Supremacists. The rest of the world is supposed to be innocent and as always, only they can be the victims.

We live in a world where it's no longer OKAY or ALRIGHT to be White.

We live in a world where (if you are Black) murdering White people is not considered to a be racist act.

We live in a world where being honest and telling the truth is the ultimate sin.

"Call it what it is Donald Trump: 'Radical right wing terrorism,'" wrote Hill Reporter editor Brian Krassenstein on Twitter.

"CNN, the Clintons, the Obamas, George Soros, etc are not our enemies. Homegrown terrorism IS!"

Hollywood star Samuel L. Jackson was more direct.

"TERRORISM Muthaf**kah, Can You Say it???!!!!!!" he wrote in response to the President's comments on Twitter.

He added: "Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself.

"We want all sides to come together in peace and harmony."

But he was criticised after saying the media has a responsibility "to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks and stories".

Is America headed for a new civil war? Fury, violence and now bombs show a US deeply divided

THE US is now firmly divided into two camps - left and right - and they can't stand each other. The country is sliding towards a disaster.

Extract: US political expert, author and host of ABC's Planet America John Barron said the apparent co-ordinated plot was deeply concerning.

"In the 1990s when a couple of white extremists targeted the Federal Building in Oklahoma City, it was very much read as being in response to the hyper-partisan environment that had been drummed up by certain Republicans," Mr Barron said.

"President Clinton at the time was able to skilfully call for an end to that partisan rancour, saying that this is what it leads to — you reap the hatred you sow.

"The difference here is President Trump is the sower in chief. He's been exploiting deep partisan, gender and ethnic divisions in the United States for the past three years."

Shaun Ratcliff from the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney said certain hard line commentators today were insisting the attack was a "false flag" orchestrated by Democrats to win sympathy.

"I'm sure some people do believe that. There are some people who won't accept that their side is ever wrong. I don't know how prevalent those views are," Dr Ratcliff said.

... a study by Michigan State University associate professor of psychology and global urban studies Zachary Neal, found the divide between Republicans and Democrats is the worst it has ever been.

"What I've found is that polarisation has been steadily getting worse since the early 1970s," Prof Neal said.

"Today, we've hit the ceiling on polarisation. At these levels, it will be difficult to make any progress on social or economic policies."

The polarisation we are seeing goes back to the 1960s, Dr Ratcliff said, and has been progressively getting worse since then.

But in recent decades, it has escalated — Republicans are getting more conservative and Democrats are becoming more progressive.

"It makes coming together and finding common ground increasingly difficult, particularly for the politically engaged.

"There is a massive divide along racial and economic lines, clearly fuelling the right nationalism that has helped Trump's candidacy and presidency," Mr Barron said.

Article: https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/26/politics/suspicious-packages-arrest/index.html

(CNN)Cesar Sayoc, the man sources say was arrested Friday in connection with suspected explosive packages sent to prominent politicians and others, is a 56-year-old Florida man with an arrest history that includes an alleged bombing threat, records show.

Sayoc, of Aventura, was arrested Friday morning at a business in Plantation, Florida, some 30 miles north of Miami, a source said.

DNA found on at least one of the packages helped investigators identify Sayoc as a suspect, and investigators also were able to use his cell phone to track him, law enforcement officials told CNN.

Here's what we know:

• Sayoc has ties to New York, a source said.

• He is a registered Republican, according to Florida Department of State spokeswoman Sarah Revell, citing the state's Division of Elections records.

• Sayoc had a string of arrests dating back to the early 1990s, Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show. Notable among them is a 2002 arrest by Miami police over an offense described in online records as a "threat to bomb" and "threaten to discharge destructive device."

The online records do not provide details about the case. They show that Sayoc pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year of probation. There is also a notation about the adjudication being withheld.

The records show eight arrests, including on suspicion of grand theft, battery, fraud, drug possession and probation violations.

The adjudication of each of the arrests could not immediately be determined from the summary of offenses provided by the Department of Law Enforcement. Sayoc appears to have pleaded no contest to some offenses, and prosecutors seem to have dropped charges in other matters.

• Sayoc also was arrested in April 1999 in North Carolina on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, said Angie Grube, a spokeswoman for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Details about that arrest, and how the case was adjudicated, were not immediately available.

• At the arrest scene Friday morning, a van in Plantation was towed away to Miramar, Florida, where an FBI field office is located, a law enforcement official said. The van's exterior features images of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence as well as a "CNN Sucks" sticker, video footage shows.

• Sayoc was a student at Brevard College in North Carolina, Christie Cauble, the school's interim director of communications, told CNN. He enrolled at Brevard in fall 1980 and attended classes there for three semesters but didn't graduate, according to Cauble.

• Sayoc was not previously known to the Secret Service, law enforcement sources said.
