"In Australia, the stall point appears to be about 1974," they wrote.

Rather than looking at Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is commonly used to gauge economic health, they opted to use a more alternative measure known as the Genuine Progress Indicator (GPI).

Based on their research, they said our "unnecessary, ideologically-driven growth" has come at "an immense and unjustifiable cost to our natural and social capital".

"But common sense, not to mention the laws of physics, says that size and scale matter, especially on a finite planet."

Australia is currently home to about 24.1 million people.

It has the highest rate of population growth of all the medium and large OECD countries, at a rate of about 1.7 per cent a year.


Planning expert Glen Searle said Australia is "hostage to the growth machine" because developers and property owners have a vested interest in continued rapid population growth.

Australia has one of the highest proportions of overseas-born people in the world, about 26 per cent according to the last census.

We are all fit to bursting point and is having a devastating effect on all of our economy, infrastructure and services.

This is not migration or refugees, its a full blown invasion of every white nation and is part of a planned takeover.

Earlier this month, outspoken entrepreneur Dick Smith launched a $1 million anti-immigration ad, calling for Australia's net migration intake to be scaled back from its current level 210,000 people a year to its historical average of 70,000.

Mr Smith joined a growing number of commentators, economists and politicians blaming "unsustainable" record high immigration for declining living standards and skyrocketing house prices, with retailers such as Harvey Norman accused of pushing a "pro-growth" agenda.

Mr Harvey, speaking to news.com.au as the furniture and electrical goods retailer announced a record full-year profit, said he had "always held the same view" that Australia was a "great big place and no one lives here".

"If I was God and I looked down on the Earth, I would see 1.3 billion Indians, 1.4 billion Chinese, 240 million Indonesians, these great big continents, America, Europe, and one funny little country, Australia," he said.

"It's not possible you can maintain a population of 25 to 30 million people. In 100 years from now Australia will have a population of 50 to 100 million people. That's going to happen regardless of what Dick Smith thinks, I think or you think, it's just inevitable.

"The people that exist today, me and you, we all have our view, but we'll be long gone."

Mr Harvey said immigration and population growth were impossible to control.

"The problem is you can't control it," he said. "The rest of the world at some stage is not going to let you control it. Sometimes when you smell the inevitable you've got to go along with it.

"You're going to come under immense pressure, it may be like boat people coming in huge numbers. It's a utopian idea that some people have, in a lot of ways I can see the worth of it, but will you ever be able to hold it to some number under 25 to 30 million? Not a chance in hell.

"It was obvious to me [since] university. Australia is going to become an Asian country, 100 per cent for sure. It's just a matter of when. You might have close to four billion Asians in the world, where do you think they're going to live?"

On Thursday, Harvey Norman announced its best ever full-year result in the company's 35-year history, delivering a profit of $448.98 million in the year to June 30, a 29 per cent increase on the previous year.

Mr Harvey wants a big customer base to sell to! He wants cheap labour by getting refugees too! Pig!

The main issue is water. We already havn't enough! Our toilets are different to those in Northern hem. They have two buttons for water saving depending on your visit to the toilet.

Desalinification exists in some regions.It ruins your copper and brass plumbing and hot water units quickly.

In the middle you have bores. The calcium deposits rapidly screw up your plumbing.

The Abos only care for anything as long as they continue to get hand outs in every shape and form.Too lazy and dumb to do much good at all.

I forgot about that but i watched a special news edition where they had issues with water and sanitation etc.
Its hard to believe that OZ has these issues but if they sent all the invaders to the desert and in ten years they will be prehistoric desert dust. win win 

In the desert we have scattered towns. You can find work ok in these places.The water comes out of bores. So it is nasty tasting.

The Government is sick of immigrants going to larger centres because now they are too congested.They'd rather put immigrants in rural zones.

We are 24 million.Asia has vastly greater numbers. That is why we suck up to USA for military help.Where would the water come from for all these other people?

Irrigators can only take certain amounts of water from rivers.The farmers are walking off land due to drought. In ACT it is regulation now to build houses equiped with rain water harvesting and drainage acceptable for future grey water harvesting.

Water is a huge issue.

We in the UK are struggling too,

Pay ££££s for a train trip to London, Manchester or even do just certain town ETC. you cant sit down or your standing squashed by the toilets that stink like buggery.

The road networks have a abundance of Traffic Jams and so many have now took to the road networks from other EU Country's and they drive like driving Horse and cart

The tarmac is falling to bits and the highways agency just cant cope with the amount of potholes that are appearing.

Australia's refugee and migrant programs are under the Budget microscope as the federal government seeks to rebuild after the coronavirus pandemic.

But advocates say it's a move that could cause us more harm than good.

In a speech to Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg confirmed Australia's population growth was expected "to slow to its lowest rate in over a hundred years".

"The population will be smaller and older than previously assumed because of the sharp drop in net overseas migration," he said

Immigration Minister Alan Tudge flagged the size and composition of Australia's 2020-21 migration and humanitarian programs would be different due to the impact of COVID-19.

These changes will be announced as part of the Budget process on October 6, he said.

Pandemic won't stop immigration completely

Katharine Betts, adjunct associate professor of sociology at Swinburne University, said Australia's closed international borders didn't mean our permanent residency program had "ground to a halt".

"There were people thinking that we can't bring in immigration because of border restrictions, but there are a lot of people here already," she said.

More than two million foreigners on temporary visas were registered here in June, federal data shows.

"If the government wanted to keep up a high rate of 200,000 migrants per year for a while, then there are plenty of candidates onshore," she said

Associate Professor Betts, vice-president of The Australian Population Research Institute (TAPRI), said the powerful "growth lobby" in Australia would continue fighting for mass migration despite the pandemic.

"People in property development and construction who make money out of population growth – they, along with universities – are putting pressure on the government to start things up as soon as possible," she said. How does immigration growth work

The COVID-19 pandemic has smashed Australia's economy, leaving millions of Australian workers jobless for the first time in their lives.

With this in mind, our political leaders might adopt a populist 'Australia-first' approach to immigration to ensure jobs go to Australians first.

But the issue is more complicated than that, said Dr Liz Allen, a demographer at the Australian National University.

"Many Australians don't realise migrants are supporting Australians in so many senses of the word," she told The New Daily.

"Migration is an essential element of helping to address or minimise any adverse consequences of a structurally ageing population

At the moment, more Australians are leaving the labour force by retirement than those heading in after school, she explained.

"Immigrants help keep the economy going – they don't just contribute by way of filling a job, but rather a migrant and their presence in the country help create other jobs."

She said there was a "common myth" that migrants are stealing jobs from locals.

"Rather, they fill much-needed roles when it comes to skills, and of course they fill jobs the local population don't want to do," she said.

Refugees can help

With international borders closed and countries in lockdown, millions of refugees have been left abandoned with nowhere safe to go.

Many countries which had promised to take them in have since turned their backs – including Australia.

About 4000 refugees granted visas to settle in Australia have remained stranded offshore since March, when Prime Minister Scott Morrison sealed our borders.

Graham Thom, Amnesty International's refugee advisor, said we should bring those stranded refugees in and use this lag in immigration to process the tens of thousands of asylum seekers on our waiting list.

"You'd think without an offshore humanitarian program, now would be the perfect time to get through that backlog," he told The New Daily.

"Why don't we at least allow these individuals to fill some of these crucial jobs that normally immigrants would fill, whether it be fruit-picking or other jobs, and if they do that then give them some sort of pathway to permanency

About 340 asylum seekers are still detained in Nauru and Papua New Guinea, he said.

Nearly 1000 are locked up in detention centres here, including about 200 in hotels such as the Mantra Hotel in Preston, Melbourne.

"We hear of Australians spending 14 days in hotel quarantine," Mr Thom said.

"Try a year and see how your mental health would be faring, on top of six years on Nauru or Manus Island

Make use of our Antarctic land give them jobs generating power for us by them being on treadmills / excercise bikes charging batteries!

He said the federal government should get these asylum seekers on bridging visas and allow them to work and help Australia recover from the pandemic.

"Instead of being a benefit to the economy, it's actually a significant cost to the economy (keeping them detained)," he said.

Rethinking our approach

Alex Reilly, a law professor at The University of Adelaide, said Australia has so far managed to maintain its economic growth by bringing in migrants.

"Without migration, our level of economic growth over the last 15 years would be much lower," he said.

"It's been a really important economic lever for Australia."

But does this mean we should roll out the red carpet to migrants as a way to bounce back from COVID-19?

Not necessarily, he said.

"If the Australian economy is going right down, then one argument might be 'Let's keep pushing immigration because bringing those people in might increase economic growth', but it won't do that if there aren't enough jobs," Professor Reilly said.

"I think, because we are now in a recession, there will be a natural lowering of the number of people we bring in through our permanent migration program.
