Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis says it is time for a new way of thinking to address the lingering itinerant problem threatening CBD businesses and tourism.

"I am proposing a solution that can provide safety, a place to stay at night and medical assistance to these people ... the Northern Territory Government, councils, the Larrakia, NGOs and indigenous medical services can work together on this," Mr Vatskalis said.

He has called on the Territory Government to allocate land in Berrimah to provide accommodation facilities to get the itinerants off the city streets.

Mr Vatskalis said none government organisations that currently provide free meals in the city for the homeless and those living rough should also relocate to that area to provide the same service.

"Toilet and washing facilities can provide the itinerants with the opportunity to clean up regaining their dignity," he said. "An indigenous medical service can provide medical examination and treatment where required.

"The Larakia Nation can utilise their return to country program to facilitate the return of these people to their homes.

"Alcohol rehabilitation services should be established to assist these people out of their addiction.

"Police foot patrols, Larrakia patrols and Council rangers working combined can move people, who still live rough in the city areas, to that facility. NGOs should stop providing the free meals in the city as their services are now in the new facility."

Mr Vatskalis said those who will oppose it on the grounds of "how much will it cost?" should think how much is the cost today to Darwin, the business community and the lost revenue by customers and tourists not coming into the city because of the current itinerant problem.

Extract: Nixon pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court to using a carriage service to make a threat to cause serious harm.

Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin said Nixon was herself a "narrow-minded racist" for her threats against White people in general.

She was fined a total of $1000.

Imagine if a White man had done the same: International media response, local, state and federal politicians denouncing White Supremacists, demanding the Political Police sink the boot in and cuff a few more so-called White Supremacists for good measure. Community groups calling for action against White Supremacy. Anti-Whites exposing the White Supremacists hiding under your beds .... The judge declaring that the moral standards of Australia's Multicultural Society demand that the sentence reflect the views of a Diverse Community with no tolerance of repugnant racist beliefs, therefore an example must be made: Prison sentence of three years minimum without parole. Ostracised from society forever. Declared unfit to be a parent. Unable to work to build a home, forced to live day to day with the unending expectation of targeted vilification at the whim of the very same society that pronounced the crime of so-called White Supremacy as irredeemable. The final choice being whether to get hard and learn how to fight back, or to sink into complete and utter despair and just end it all at the end of a rope.

A thousand buck fine to be paid off at $20 per fortnight at taxpayer expense along with continued community support and barely a ripple in the MSM? Pretty bloody unlikely for a White guy!

A NUMBER of youths NIGGERS!have been arrested following a string of alleged offences in Alice Springs yesterday morning.

The alleged crimes included two ram raids and an incident in which police were forced to evade a speeding car. In a separate alleged incident, police used a tyre-deflation device to stop a stolen vehicle being driven dangerously through the central business district.

The alleged offending started just after 1am when the officers were forced to take evasive action to avoid being hit by the speeding, stolen car on the Stuart Hwy in the town's north.

Within the hour, Strike Force Winx members reported a ram raid in Larapinta and police arrested two boys aged 13 and 17 a short time later, while other youths fled the area.

Police also located a large quantity of alcohol in the vehicle, which is believed to be connected to an earlier ram raid in The Gap.

This was reported to police about 2am.

Both youths were expected to be charged with assaulting police and a range of other property offences yesterday afternoon.

Later in the morning, police deployed the stop sticks in the arrest of another two youths in the CBD in relation to a stolen car. About 4.50am they observed the reportedly stolen vehicle driving dangerously through central Alice Springs.

Just after 5am, they rolled out the tyre-deflation device, successfully spiking all the vehicle's tyres.



It was later abandoned by the alleged offenders as they fled on foot. Two youths, aged 15 and 14, were later arrested and remained in police custody yesterday

A man who died after he was stabbed through the heart in February last year was engaged in a "vicious" fight with the woman accused of his murder, Darwin's Supreme Court has heard.

Anisa Cadell pleaded not guilty to the murder of the man, who cannot be named for Indigenous cultural reasons.

Prosecutor David Brustman QC said the 25-year-old man was engaged in a heated fight with Ms Cadell immediately before he was stabbed.

"You'll hear of a pretty vicious fight," Mr Brustman told the jury.

"The deceased was really ploughing into it. He was giving her a flogging and she was reciprocating in kind."
But Mr Brustman said that it was clear what had happened next.

"It's pretty basic and straightforward ... [Ms Cadell] plunged a knife into the chest of the deceased, causing his death either instantly or very shortly after."

Defence barrister John Lawrence refuted this claim, telling the court the case was anything but straightforward.

"I don't know what the opposite of that in English is but whatever it is I say it to you now," he said.

"This isn't basic and straightforward.
"Don't be moved or affected by what you've just heard [from the prosecution], please."

Mr Lawrence said the murder was the result of an "unfortunate series of events" that led to both Ms Cadell and the deceased man being at the same house at the same time.

"The evidence will tell you that the moment that man entered the house he was belligerent, aggressive," he said.

The trial continues.

A 28-YEAR-OLD woman has allegedly carjacked a vehicle in Alice Springs and crashed it into a tree and fence.

The woman allegedly stood in the middle of Aneura Place and stopped the 63-year-old female driver, police said.

She then got into the front passenger side of the vehicle and threatened the driver just before 7pm on Monday, police said.

Police said the driver got out of the car and the alleged offender drove about 700 metres before crashing the stolen motor vehicle into a tree and fence on Spearwood Road.

A 28-year-old woman is currently assisting police with their inquiries.

Police wish to speak to anyone who may have seen this woman or may have been in the area at the time.


The woman is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, 150cm tall, slim build and was wearing dirty cropped denim shorts and a maroon bikini tank top.

Territory prisoner numbers have reached an all-time high, with services above capacity.

There are 1789 prisoners in NT prisons, which are operating at 108.6 per cent capacity.

NT Correctional Services are implementing a range of measures to manage the growing number of inmates including installing more beds.

Forty reserved beds will be added to the Darwin Correctional Centre to create double bunking in some cells.

Eighteen single rooms are ready with 20 more to be completed by February 28.

Eligible open rated prisoners will be assessed for administrative home detention and others may be transferred to the prerelease work village.
