FORMER AFL footballer Liam Jurrah has been sentenced to six months jail after pleading guilty to assaulting a woman in a Territory town.
Jurrah, 24 and his co-accused Mathius Walker, 32, were sentenced for the aggravated assault - outside a 24-hour store - in Alice Springs this afternoon.
Magistrate David Bamber backdated Jurrah's prison term to allow for time already spent on remand and ruled it would be suspended after three months.
He will be released on a 12 month good behaviour promise late next month.
Mr Bamber said Jurrah had "good prospects" of not re-offending.

SECURITY guards barricaded themselves in a coolroom and a customer was left to defend herself when five people - armed with knives and an iron bar - allegedly stormed a supermarket.
A man, 41 and his 43-year-old partner have been arrested over the offence.
Watch Commander Greg Pusterla said their three young accomplices, believed to be family members, are still at large.
"The five armed people confronted security guards, who then sought protection in a cool room," he said.
"One attacker then turned her attention to a customer - who managed to disarm her - before escaping."
The incident happened outside Coles, at Casuarina Shopping Centre, in northern Darwin, about 7.30pm yesterday

And what supermarket raiding family would cause armed and trained security to barricade themselves in a back room, while leaving customers to the mercy of the family raiders? Once again, an Abo family.

Are Abo families so terrifyingly dangerous that armed and trained security need to hide, cowering in a back room for their own safety? Hell no! They hid due to the legal and violent repercussions should they have done their job - probably at the orders of the supermarket owner, who neither wants to be dragged through the courts nor hounded by the Australian Soviet Socialist libtard media, faced with accusations of excessive, race oriented violence against a wonderful Australian Indigenous couple who just wanted to do a little shopping ... That and the expectation of the store being torched in retribution for Whitey sticking up for himself.

The insurance company owes the store owner, manager, staff and security a new set of golf clubs each, as a reward for the money saved on insurance payouts. And the customer that disarmed one of them should be awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia by the JOG in Canberra!

^ Ah! the Abos up here are reknown for robbing supermarkets. You see the basics card they get from the Centrelink doesn't allow them to get grog or smokes as legitimate purchases and if they can't beg for the stuff.. you know how these child like people will chimp out in a supermarket to get it.
There's been instances of Abos ram raiding supermarkets in Alice springs to get grog.. after they failed to obtain it by sledgehammering the besser brick walls down. They try create diversion to shoplift grog. I myself have seen them deliberately slip over in the liquor land when the security wants them out to try and pull the "injury" card on the establishment.
Funny with the case mentioned the female customer disarmed one of the crooks while the security presonell hid in the cold store.All I can say is those abbos must have had pretty devastating knife skills and their young kids must be pretty menacing for that to happen?

A mobile phone has led to criminal charges being laid against a 17-year-old Darwin boy.
Police allege the boy broke into a house in the suburb of Moil last night and plugged in his mobile phone to charge before leaving with stolen jewellery and some cash but without his phone.
When the boy returned to the house to retrieve the phone, he was confronted by the owners.
They held him until police arrived.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said: "I've seen some stupidity in my time but this one is up there with the best of them."

The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) crime figures show the Northern Territory still has the highest rate of assaults in Australia, and most are against Indigenous women by family members.
The statistics show the Territory's assault rate grew by 5 per cent last year and is more than three times higher than that of any other state or territory.
There are more than 3,000 victims of assault per 100,000 people every year in the Territory compared with 900 per 100,000 people in the next most violent jurisdiction, Western Australia.
Sixty per cent of assault victims were female and 80 per cent of those women were Indigenous.
The Territory also had the highest percentage of female victims who knew their assailant (90 per cent) and the highest percentage of women whose attacker was a member of their family (60 per cent).
Unlike other states, more women in the Territory were assaulted in a public place that at home.
The report shows that the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia and New South Wales posted a decrease in the number of assaults on the previous year, down 11, 7 and 3 per cent respectively.
Assaults in Western Australian were up by 7 per cent.
Assault data for Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania was not available in the report.
