Netanyahu: Hitler Didn't Want to Exterminate the Jews

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked public uproar when on Wednesday he claimed that the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, was the one who planted the idea of the extermination of European Jewry in Adolf Hitler's mind. The Nazi ruler, Netanyahu said, had no intention of killing the Jews, but only to expel them. In a speech before the World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem, Netanyahu described a meeting between Husseini and Hitler in November, 1941: "Hitler didn't want to exterminate the Jews at the time, he wanted to expel the Jew. And Haj Amin al-Husseini went to Hitler and said, 'If you expel them, they'll all come here (to Palestine).' According to Netanyahu, Hitler then asked: "What should I do with them?" and the mufti replied: "Burn them."

Holocaust experts slammed Netanyahu's comments as historically inaccurate and serving the interests of Holocaust deniers by lessening the responsibility of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. Critics also said the statement amounts to incitement against modern-day Palestinians in the midst of a wave of violent unrest and Israeli-Palestinian tensions ... Moshe Zimmermann, a prominent Holocaust and anti-Semitism researcher at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, said Netanyahu made a "far-reaching argument" for political purposes that didn't hold water. He said the comments essentially made Netanyahu a Holocaust denier.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been criticised for saying a Palestinian leader persuaded the Nazis to carry out the Holocaust. Mr Netanyahu insisted Adolf Hitler had only wanted to expel Jews from Europe, but that Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini told him: "Burn them." However, the chief historian at Israel's memorial to the Holocaust said this account was factually incorrect. Angela Merkel said Germany "abides by its responsibility for the Holocaust". "We are very clear in our minds about the Nazis' responsibility for the break with civilisation that was the Shoah," the German chancellor said. A senior Palestinian official meanwhile said it showed Mr Netanyahu hated Palestinians so much he was willing to absolve Hitler.

A judge has jailed a "Holocaust denier" for five months for using performance art in the public square in Ennis to further his claims that the Holocaust did not take place. At Ennis District Court, Judge Patrick Durcan jailed 49-year old Dermot Mulqueen of Steele's Terrace, Ennis for five months for the lunchtime public performance on January 23 ... Mr Mulqueen told the court that the performance art entitled 'Liberation of the Mind' was carried out to launch International Holocaust Hoax Day. Prior to carrying out the performance in front a crowd of mainly teenagers in Ennis, Mr Mulqueen informed his Twitter followers what he was about to do. In front of a crowd at the monument, Mr Mulqueen had erected a sign entitled 'International Holocaust Hoax Day'.

In March 2014 the Smithsonian Institute ran a made-for-television pseudo-documentary called Treblinka-Hitler's Killing Machine. The TV special was ridiculous.

One promotional clip was titled:

"Excavating a Secret Gas Chamber: The watershed discovery of Star of David tiles confirms the existence of Treblinka's gas chambers and becomes the key to reconstructing the death camp's sinister workings."

In fact, the film conflated the Star of David with the trademark of the 125-year old Dziewulski Lange porcelain factory in Poland. The mark is actually a heraldic symbol known as a pierced mullet star.

A second promotional clip was titled:

"The Bones the Nazis Hid: A forensic archaeologist who investigates modern-day murders uncovers a mass grave that's remained a secret since the Holocaust.

It turned out that the "expert" forensic archaeologist was excavating at the edge of a known and well-marked Christian cemetery. It seems that a day's digging in three trenches produced 40 bone fragments. The "expert forensic archeologist," Caroline Sturdy-Colls, was unclear about whose bones these were, how long they had been buried, how many bodies were found (anywhere from 2 to 40 is possible), what killed them (an odd thing to be overlooked for a forensic specialist), and whether any of the bones had been exposed to cremation, (something very relevant to investigations of Treblinka).

These gross errors were pointed out in a letter CODOH sent to the Smithsonian, see Smith's Blog May 22, 2014 (Also available from CODOH's library http://codoh.com/library/document/3305 here). A more detailed critical analysis was presented in a film by Eric Hunt titled The Treblinka Archeology Hoax http://codoh.com/library/document/3286 (also available on DVD). A comment on Smith's Blog asked:

Any perspective that the message will be responded [to] by the Smithsonian?

Now we have an answer: The Smithsonian will replay Hitler's Killing Machine on November 8 and twice on November 9. See http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/treblinka-hitlers-killing-machine/0/3403868 That the Smithsonian would attach its name to this inaccurate bit of pseudo-science in the first place does no credit to the Institute. That it would air re-runs is disconcerting.

Why does the Smithsonian continue to air a program that is clearly inaccurate to the point of foolishness and exploitive of the tragedies that occurred at Treblinka? I cannot say but it is probably worth it for honest citizens to send polite letters of protest to the Smithsonian:

That was the working title given to the show by its English producers, Furneaux-Edgar Production working with GroupM Entertainment. Inside the Murder Factory was deemed a not-sensational-enough title for the U.S. audience, hence a new title was given to the pseudo-documentary, Hitler's Killing Machine.

The staged filming was directed by Alex Nicolic-Dunlap. Alex describes himself as, "an award winning drama and documentary director known for my strong visual style." He also filmed a dramatised documentary titled Escape from Auschwitz. Producer Charles Furneaux is widely known for his 2012 production Nazi Temple of Doom as part of the Revealed TV series. Co-Producer David Edgar is best known for his production of Marilyn:The Last Sessions; a questioning of "What was it that killed her? Movies... sex... politics... drugs... or psychoanalysis?" He also produced, Nazi UFO Conspiracy, an examination of "the evidence that Hitler was building a secret weapon that would move like a flying saucer that could decimate Allied bombing fleets."

But now the Swiss foundation that holds the copyright to "The Diary of Anne Frank" is alerting publishers that her father is not only the editor but also legally the co-author of the celebrated book ... Foundation officials "should think very carefully about the consequences," said Agnès Tricoire, a lawyer in Paris who specializes in intellectual property rights in France, where critics have been the most vociferous and are organizing a challenge. "If you follow their arguments, it means that they have lied for years about the fact that it was only written by Anne Frank."

In Germany, 'Nazi Grandma' Sentenced to Prison for 'Holocaust Denial'

A German court has sentenced an 87-year-old grandmother to ten months in jail for Holocaust denial after a trial in which she insisted that Auschwitz was "not historically proven" to be a death camp. That is "only a belief," said Ursula Haverbeck, dubbed Nazi-Oma (Nazi grandma) by the media on Friday. Haverbeck is a notorious extremist who was once chairwoman of a far-right training centre shut down in 2008 for spreading Nazi propaganda. She already has a criminal record with two fines and a suspended sentence for sedition. Haverbeck was dragged back into court after she went on television in April to declare that "the Holocaust is the biggest and most sustainable lie in history". Unapologetic for her comment, she had told the court cheerfully, "yes I said that indeed", according to media reports.
