Man arrested with toy gun

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,25827737-29277,00.html

A SYDNEY man has been arrested for carrying a toy cap gun into an eastern suburbs shopping centre, after police were called by alarmed passers-by.

Police were first alerted to the man and his gun at 4pm (AEST) today (Thursday 23rd of July, 2009), when a member of the public called to say he had been seen walking towards Westfield's Eastgardens Shopping Centre in Pagewood, carrying the handgun.

When police responded to the call, they found the 18-year-old sitting inside the shopping centre's cinema complex.

Police arrested him at the scene, and say they found a toy cap gun in his possession.

He has since been charged with having an offensive implement in a public place, and was bailed to appear in Waverley Local Court on Thursday August 27.

Back when I was a nine year old boy, my then eighteen year old cousin and I were playing with toy guns and toy rifles in public areas. Nobody batted an eyelid, much less had him arrested. The odd thing is that these days you can't buy toy guns of the style or quality that I owned. My toy pistol was an almost full sized copy of the "Buntline Special," (with plastic rounds) as used by Whyat Earp. Too much realism for the do-gooders of today, I guess.

I haven't seen toy guns in a long time, children nowadays just sit infront of the TV or play video games.

All I can say is that the law is an ass.
