About the only thing that makes sense would be a binding machine like you see in the above link paired with a duplexing laser printer. In that way, books could be printed on demand and bound in house.
That kind of setup can be had for about $300-$400, not counting paper. The results aren't superstar-great but the get the job done quickly.
Can't believe that post was 5 years ago! technology has moved on.
