Agora takes what could be the fascinating story of the pioneering philosopher-scientist Hypatia and apparently reduces it to a dull, anti-Christian political screed.  The film revolves around scenes in which Hypatia faces off against local intolerant Christians in Alexandria, who are angry that a pagan woman like her should have influence in the city.  The film features a large, elaborately-staged sequence in which Christians burn down the Library of Alexandria , and ends with the murder of Hypatia at the hands of fanatical Christians.
