MORE than a thousand people have now tried to reach Darwin this year by boat - almost a third of the population of Tennant Creek.
Up to 40 asylum seekers were seen disembarking two customs vessels yesterday at Darwin's Larrakeyah Naval Base.
They are believed to be among 183 picked up from two foreign boats near Ashmore Islands by Navy ship HMAS Broome under Border Protection Command.
The first boat was found on May 22 with 85 people on board. The second was intercepted nearby on May 24 with 98 people on board.
Customs said the detainees were to be taken to Darwin for security, health and identity checks.
But less than a third of that number was seen disembarking.     It is not known what happened to the rest as Government departments including Customs, Immigration and Defence refused to answer direct questions about them and have silenced their workers from speaking to the media.
A source who cannot be named said the vessels bringing the people to Darwin were the HMAS Ararat and the HMAS Armidale.
The source said the Armidale had to sail to Ashmore last Thursday in rough seas to pick up 13 people from a Customs vessel that was only allowed to have 20 on board.
In the process, it sustained a 15cm hole that is likely to cost $20,000 to fix and used up 36,000 litres of fuel.
The source said that the Ararat had dropped off the women and children and had gone back out for another run.
Federal Member for Solomon Natasha Griggs said people smugglers were rushing to sell their product before the next election.

IMMIGRATION transport guards fighting to control asylum seekers on trips to church and hospital in Darwin are from the same mob as those who lost a German gangster at an airport in Thailand.

Detention service provider Serco yesterday confirmed four employees had been stood down amid an internal inquiry into the transit escapes. Two of the suspended workers are based in Darwin.
An insider said under-skilled transport and escort crews - who conduct Serco's domestic and international detainee movements - were to blame for a "comedy of errors" in the NT, interstate and overseas recently.

"They rush the escorts and lie to (the Department of Immigration and Citizenship) about security risks," the worker said.
"All they care about is the bottom line."

Serco transport and escort workers have come under fire over four major mishaps in the past two months. Two Vietnamese detainees absconded from St Marys Cathedral, in Darwin, while their guards were reportedly smoking and having a chat outside the church.

Six asylum seekers managed to escape from an X-ray appointment in Darwin. Officials denied guards had fallen asleep when German national Carlo Kohl, 25, bolted from custody in Bangkok.
And Solomon Baker was about to be deported to Papua New Guinea when he smashed a window and fell to his death from the fifth floor of a Sydney hospital.

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, said operational plans were often an incomplete "cut and paste job". "The director calls it 'generic cost-effective planning'," he said.
"(Management) still don't care about our reputation as long as the money rolls in."
Immigration Department spokesman Sandi Logan said Serco was contractually obliged to ensure its staff were adequately trained, with sanctions an option if Serco did not meet requirements.
Serco spokesman Paul Shaw denied staff were not adequately skilled or trained.
He said transport and escort officers held a Certificate II in security operations and were inducted for work in immigration detention.

FOUR immigration detention guards were reportedly having a smoke and a  chat when two detainees escaped from church in Darwin.

Serco has started  an internal investigation over a string of prisoner escapes.
Two  Darwin-based transport and escort guards, along with another two  interstate, have been suspended from duty. The NT News understands two  Vietnamese asylum seekers absconded from St Marys Cathedral, in Darwin,  on April 28.

A FISHERMAN said he thought children would drown after government authorities told them to abandon a stranded asylum seeker boat far out to sea in rough swells.

"I could see little kids' hands waving through the open window," deck hand Mark O'Dwyer said in Darwin today.

"There is going to be more than kids overboard, if it had of been there at night... we could have crashed right through them... they were f**ked mate."

Mr O'Dwyer was out on a trap boat when the crew spotted the overloaded asylum vessel about 130-160 nautical miles off the NT coast, in an area called the Timor Box, on June 3.

About a dozen men were sitting on the roof of the boat.

Mr O'Dwyer said he knew there were children on board because he could see their hands gripping the edge of the cabin windows.Related Coverage

"A charter flight full of supposed asylum seekers from Christmas island to Darwin...and the whole lot of them are dressed better than me in my decent work clothes....THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ASYLUM SEEKERS...they are queue jumpers no more than that......"

Smithy from Darwin

"I have no idea how many people there were but there were too many," he [Mr O'Dwyer] said, adding he feared without fuel the boat would flip in the large swell.

"You need to have diesel so you can power on into the swell - or with it - to stop the roll of the boat.

"If the boat hits waves sideways it will capsize."

Mr O'Dwyer said as the fishing crew was trying to get diesel, food and water to the boat, authorities told them not to help and leave the area.

While standing in line at the shops the other day, I overheard some bloke extolling the virtues of how "it is the duty of Australians to do their utmost to assist the refugees."

Naturally I was disgusted, and fuming with anger, I tried to tune out as a woman also waiting in line loudly and verbosely agreed, and pronounced that "typically racist White Australia policies make it so difficult for the poor refugees."

It soon became apparent that the bloke was talking to what appeared to be a stranger and that he was chatting her up, changing the subject and telling her how he was a professional fisherman .... All I could do was slowly come to the boil and wish the checkout-chick would pull her finger out and get a move on so I could get the hell away from these brain-dead, libtard sickos.

Then I heard the bloke boast to his new-found lady-friend of how he once saved a "refugee" from drowning.

"Oh," said his lady-friend, obviously impressed. "Did this happen while you were out fishing?"

"Nah," said the bloke. "I just took my foot off the illegal bastard's head!"

BREAKING STORY: Rioting Iranians on Nauru have taken detention staff hostage in what may be a violent response to the PNG asylum seeker solution.
A Nauruan MP took to state television to call for big, strong men to head to the processing camp as Nauruan riot police were overwhelmed by the the number of rioting asylum seekers.
About 300 Nauruans responded to their leaders' call and are preparing to confront the protesting Iranians.
Three interpreters and three medical staff were held for an hour before being released but it was unclear if they had been injured.
There was confusion over the motivation for the riot, with some reports from Nauru suggesting it was linked to the Mr Rudd's hardline announcement.
There were also reports emerging of fires burning inside the centre and of some refugees having escaped.
Freelance photographer Clint Deidenang said chants of "freedom'' could be heard coming from inside the detention centre from about 6pm.
Mr Deidenang said he heard up to eight explosions before the flood lights outside the detention centre was soon smashed, leaving the area in darkness.
He tweeted: "Massive fire broke out from with the camp. I can see flames and smokes over the tree tops from my position.''
@DaisyKLewis reports on twitter that "two districts'' had been evacuated after the explosions.
She said all Nauruan males had been called in to help bring the riot under control amid fears more than 200 asylum seekers had escaped.

Well... such marvellous people those people smugglers are picking to be the next generation of Australians.  :( &:(

KEVIN Rudd's plan to send asylum seekers to PNG has been slammed by the Greens as inhumane, and the Coalition which says you can't trust the PM.
Kevin Rudd today made the announcement alongside a contingent of PNG ministers and the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.
"This is to ensure that the message to people smugglers is made loud and clear that the hopes they sell to their customers is nothing but false hope," Mr Rudd said.
Mr Rudd said that it was a tough line approach but was important given the "scourge" of people smugglers.
"Any asylum-seeker will have no chance of being resettled in Australia," Mr Rudd said.
He said Australia would also be convening an international conference to look at how best to combat people smuggling.

Mr Rudd said Australia would continue to take refugees through its humanitarian program.
"Australia stands ready to progressively increase its intake through the humanitarian program," he said.

Well it is true you can't trust Mr Rudd! He's the clown that made this awful "free for all". Now he is trying to act tough . I mean so what if he stops the boaties, the rest that come by plane are just as much of a hinderance to us and our welfare system.

After the Prime Minister's announcement, it did not take long for the news to  circulate in the mountain-top resort city of Cisarua, where an estimated 5000  asylum seekers were awaiting to make boat trips.
By Saturday morning, groups of Afghan men, who are highly visible on the  streets, were saying they would never accept settlement in Papua New Guinea and  began instructing intermediaries working for the smugglers that they would not  be going.
ISLAND  OF ASH LEFT IN RIOTERS' WAKE  (http://www.news.com.au/nauru-rioters-cause-60m-damage/story-fnfwqphn-1226682456715%26assetId=1226682456715%26assetType=News_Story%26subType=)
The Afghans generally do not pay the smugglers in advance. Because the Afghan  networks have become such an established business here since 1999, the smugglers  trade on their good name and their guarantees to deliver people to  Australia.
Afghans - who travel cheaper by boat than people of other nationalities,  usually paying around $3000 - told News Corp Australia that they would now  register with the UNHCR and wait for legal resettlement because the idea of PNG  seemed too shocking to them.
RUDD TO EXPORT PNG BOAT PLAN (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/kevin-rudd-to-export-png-asylum-seeker-deal-to-other-nations/story-fni0cx12-1226682507590)
One man, Noor Agha, 35, an ethnic Hazara, told how he had arrived on Ashmore  Reef in 2001 and had been shipped on HMAS Tobruk to Nauru. He waited there a  year and a half but finally accepted a voluntary repatriation to Afghanistan  after his son was born in terrible conditions in the camp.

So Rudd the Dudd, he thinks he can rely on the PNG law makers to fix this! what a clown!  Why can't people rely on Australia's prime minister to fix this?

A BABY and a 10-year-old girl are among three people dead after an asylum-seeker boat carrying 175 people sank off southern Java. Eighteen are still missing, feared dead.
Local police say the death toll from this latest asylum—seeker  calamity, which occurred when their boat failed and broke apart only  five kilometres from shore on Tuesday afternoon, may not be as great as  first believed.
They say there were 175 people on the boat, all of  them Iranians and Sri Lankans. Police who descended on the area say  they have accounted for 154 survivors, along with the two deceased and a  baby, aged one, who has been taken to a hospital morgue.

They should all go back to their own nation and build it up to make it as good as Australia not just come here and scab off the backs of the fruits of our ancestor's efforts! They should be thankful to them .. but as we know they aren't!

Those bastards like:- Don Dunstan and Gogh Whitlam and Al Grasby in the 1970's  who removed the white Australia policy by stealth ( and signed the Lima declaration making Australian manufacturing able to be done abroad) really will go down in the history book as being the worst race traitors!

Now look what we have! Former Iraqi soldiers in our land joining Outlaw motorcycle groups and flexing their muscles around selling drugs, starting "front" businesses to clean money, Scum enclaves, bullying of anyone non Islamic who tries to enter those enclaves.

What good do these turds do for Australia? O.k they have taught us how to make Kebabs and tabouli and curry so now they can go home!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Dunstan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Dunstan)

Federally, Dunstan, together with fellow Fabian Gough Whitlam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gough_Whitlam), set about removing the White Australia policy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Australia_policy) from the ALP platform. The older trade-unionist-based members of the Labor Party vehemently opposed changing the status quo. However, the "New Guard" of the party, of which Dunstan was a part, were determined to bring about its end. Attempts in 1959 and 1961 failed, with ALP leader Arthur Calwell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Calwell) stating, "It would ruin the Party if we altered the immigration policy ... it was only cranks, long hairs, academics and do-gooders who wanted the change". However, Dunstan persisted in his efforts, and in 1965 it was removed from the ALP platform at their national conference; Dunstan personally took credit for the change.[1][6] Whitlam would later bring about the comprehensive end of the White Australia policy in 1973 as Prime Minister (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Minister_of_Australia).[35][36][37]

Dunstan pursued similar reforms with respect to Indigenous Australians. In 1962, the Aboriginal Affairs Bill was introduced to liberalise constraints that had been placed on Indigenous Australians in the past and had effectively resulted in segregation. The initial proposal still retained some restrictions, placing more controls over full-blooded Aborigines. Dunstan was prominent in Labor's opposition to the double standards,[38] and called for abolition of race-based restrictions, saying that social objectives could be achieved without explicit colour-based schemes.[38]

He was successful in forcing amendments to liberalise controls on property and the confinement of Indigenous Australians to reserves. However, his attempt to remove the different standards required of part and full-blooded Aborigines failed, as did his proposal to ensure that at least half of the members of the Aboriginal Affairs Board be Indigenous Australians.[39] Despite the passage of the bill, restrictions remained in place and Dunstan questioned the policy of assimilation of Aborigines, which he saw as the diluting of their distinctive cultures.[40]
Salisbury affair and departure from officeThe South Australian Police (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Australia_Police) had since 1949 a "Special Branch" in its forces for the purposes of surveillance and espionage. Conceived earlier as an "intelligence branch" in 1939 for the purposes of spying on the large German Australian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Australian) community in World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II),[131] it had amassed information on tens of thousands of individuals and organisations.[12

6] While such an operation was of concern to Dunstan and his government for civil liberty reasons, its apparent party-political bias was even more concerning to them. In particular, the branch held information files on Labor parliamentarians, communists, church leaders, trade unionists and so-called "pink files" on gay community activists dating from the time before homosexuality was decriminalised.[13

2] Only two Labor MPs, from both federal and state parliaments, did not have files, whereas the branch held significantly fewer files relating to Liberal figures.[133] Dunstan had known of the existence of the branch since 1970,[134] but said that he had been assured by the police commissioner that its files were not systematically focused on left-wing political figures.[133][135]
However, Peter Ward, a journalist and former Dunstan staffer published a story about the files.[126] An inquiry was conducted into the branch by Justice White of the Supreme Court of South Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Court_of_South_Australia), and the report was placed in Dunstan's hands on 21 December 1977.[136] It said that the dossiers did exist and that they were "scandalously inaccurate, irrelevant to security purposes and outrageously unfair to hundreds, perhaps thousands, of loyal and worthy citizens".[133] It also noted that the reports overwhelmingly focused on left-wing politicians and activists, and that Dunstan had been misled by the police commissioner.[1

33] After reviewing the report, Dunstan sacked Police Commissioner Harold Salisbury in January and threatened to release the report to the public.[133] However, Salisbury had a reputation as a man of integrity, and controversy erupted regarding the inquiry and Dunstan's actions, and whether he had already known about the true contents of the files for several years, as claimed by Ward. A Royal Commission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Commission) under Justice Mitchell,[133] set up at the instigation of the Liberals, investigated the matter. The inquiry cleared the Dunstan Government of any error, as it had not known about the Special Branch's activities earlier.

[137] Dunstan sacked Salisbury for misleading Parliament about the existence of the "pink files"[138] and many of the Special Branch files were burnt.

THE UN's refugee agency says it's troubled by Kevin Rudd's hardline PNG solution as another 75 asylum seekers are lo located near Christmas Island.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) says it has had talks this week with Australian government representatives in Canberra and Geneva about its concerns.
"With regard to the new measures, UNHCR is troubled by the current absence of adequate protection standards and safeguards for asylum seekers and refugees in Papua New Guinea," it said in a statement.
"The focus must remain on finding ways that complement, rather than undermine, national asylum systems built on the fundamental principles of the 1951 Refugee Convention."
The agency says there are significant shortcomings in the PNG legal framework for receiving and processing asylum seekers from Australia.
These include a lack of capacity and expertise in processing as well as poor physical conditions at the Manus Island detention centre where detainees live in tents.
"This can be harmful to the physical and psycho-social wellbeing of (asylum seekers) particularly families and children," it said.

Oh! cry me a river!  for crying out loud! Get us out of the UN convention for refugees this is a joke! Malta , Greece, Spain , Italy all bombarded by refugees and they don't get out of it, why the hell can't we all just walk away from it?

The Security Intelligence Section is responsible for the provision of timely and accurate information and intelligence so as to prevent acts or threats of subversion, terrorism, threats or acts of violence against the safety or security of any dignitary, and violent behaviour between or within community groups.

By experience, I can tell you that the Security Intelligence Section does not consider itself responsible for the provision of any information whatsoever of violent behaviour by non-White community groups against White community groups. However, if you are White and you attempt to raise a concerned voice of reason against black and other non-White violence against the White community, you will be hounded by the Security Intelligence Section, who will then do an Obama and stir the pot by offering rewards to non-Whites for your head.

DARWIN may find itself at the centre of the federal Coalition's latest asylum seeker policy, which will allocate more military involvement to protecting Australia's borders.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott yesterday unveiled the Coalition's latest for trying to dissuade asylum seekers from making the boat journey to Australia.
Mr Abbott said that their plan would establish a "military-led response" and a three-star commander would head the operation, which would be called Sovereign Borders.
"The scale of this problem requires the discipline and focus of a targeted military operation placed under a single operational and ministerial command, and drawing together all the necessary resources and deployments of government agencies," the Coalition policy statement said.

SHE was sold a cruel lie by the people smugglers. She would be travelling on a luxury ocean liner from Indonesia to Australia. They showed her photos of the ship that would transport her, her beautiful son and her brother to their new life in Australia.
It was a superb vessel, with three storeys of cabins.
"I believed them," she says.
She had dreamed of nothing else but being with her husband, who had escaped to Australia four years earlier on a boat to build a new life in Perth for his wife and unborn son, their first child. He had left Sri Lanka when she was five months' pregnant.
She speaks passable English. She says the police won't let her see Darmithan. They took him from her when they arrived here in the ambulance, the day before. "I want my baby, I want to see my baby," she cries.

Selvamalar tells how it came to this. Late last year she, her brother Rahulan, 25, and Darmithan left their home in Vavuniya, in Sri Lanka's Northern Province. She says her husband, Balamanokaran, faced serious ethnic and political problems as a Tamil in Sri Lanka.
He is living in Perth on a five-year visa. Selvamalar said she'd tried to join her husband through legal means, but was refused a visa. "I don't know why," she says.
In mid-November, feeling she had no alternative, she set off from Galle, in the south of the troubled island nation, with her son, brother and 43 other Australia-bound asylum seekers.
Each paid the equivalent of around $7200 for passage to Indonesia. She says the engine stopped as they got close to Indonesia in their 2000km journey.
Wind back a few days. We are in the village of Cidaun, on the southern coast of West Java, at one of the closest points between Indonesia and Christmas Island.
Two Sri Lankan women are weeping as they trade accounts of their grief, but neither is able to offer comfort to the other. One explains that her three children and husband are missing, lost at sea after their smuggling boat sank. The second woman says her only son is missing.
Someone calls the second woman's name. She turns, in horror.
She knows that over where the voice came from is the makeshift morgue they have set up in the clinic in the fishing village of Cidaun, on the southern coast of West Java.
An ambulance has just arrived with another body rescuers have pulled from the water.

VIETNAMESE asylum seekers have been busted running a sex ring out of a Darwin detention centre.
The discovery has raised fears that organised crime gangs might have infiltrated the boats.
The women trading sex to other detainees in the Darwin detention centre travelled to Australia by boat with men Immigration officials say are more akin to "pimps than partners''.

Officials suspect the women were sent to Australia to work in the sex industry.
Organised crime syndicates have been linked to the spike in Vietnamese asylum seekers to provide cheap labour to run marijuana crops and work in brothels.

The spike has also been linked to the sex industry and poor fisherman simply seeking work.     In many cases they have claimed to have been orphans or minors before biometric checks revealed some applicants had entered Australia previously on tourist visas.

FORTY Indonesians believed to be illegal immigrants seeking to return home are missing, after the boat they were on sank off the coast of Malaysia.
The boat carrying 44 people sank on Thursday night off southern Johor state, said Amran Daud, an official with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
Four men were rescued on Friday.
"The condition of the boat is believed to be questionable,'' Amran said.

Asylum Seeker Resource Centre spokeswoman Pamela Curr says she has received reports about the local people's negative stance on asylum seekers who are currently on Nauru in the wake of the destructive riots.
"There is a tremendous antipathy toward the asylum seekers, such that they will never be allowed out to roam freely on the island," she said.
"There's a kind of lynch mob mentality amongst the Nauruans towards asylum seekers.
"Our politicians keep saying 'it's not a detention centre, they will have freedom of movement'. That is rubbish.

Let's face it though, in Naru the cops will probably assist in helping you belt these unruly Arabs up with no questions asked, you'd probably be rewarded for doing so.
In Australia  the CCTV network would track you down quick smart, the ZOG would look at it's files on how you pay tax, where you are registered to vote, criminal history, what your driver's license has on it. ETC , you are singled out as being "racist" for resisting the Arab invaders even peacefully, and before you know it ZOG's media is writing articles on you.. and the police are against you in what you do.
That is the difference between Australia and Naru.
Who needs rallies and stuff, you play into ZOG's hands. Look what the Muslim buggers got away with in Maroubra aftermath of the Cronulla riots, guerrilla tactics.. it is naïve to think stage protests are going to make a difference now.

KEVIN Rudd says there's no question asylum seekers can be resettled in Nauru, despite conflicting comments from the tiny island nation.

The Prime Minister announced an expansion of his PNG deal before calling the election, saying a limited number of asylum seekers processed there would also be resettled there.

But Nauru Government spokesperson Joanna Olsen told The Australian resettlement was not an option

"Permanent settlement is not allowed - that is correct," she told the newspaper.

"They can stay here until the processing finishes and then (they are) resettled."
But Mr Rudd said there was not discrepancy, just confusion about the terms used.
"We said they will settle and reside," Mr Rudd said.
"Nauru's experience of this, I'm advised by the Immigration Minister, is that in the past various people have come to resettle and reside in Nauru and ended up staying there for 20 years.
"They don't have a category of permanent residency as we do under our immigration law."

Seems to me "Cunning Kev" is not being entirely honest with us about all this PNG and Naru stuff. Who is surprised?

AS KEVIN Rudd and Tony Abbott trade promises to end the boats, Java's smugglers are more desperate than ever, offering discounts to poor asylum seekers or, for the wealthy, express speedboat rides to join bigger boats north of Christmas Island.
And whoever wins Saturday's election will have a new problem, with a wave of Syrians expected to start filtering, and then rushing, to Indonesia, any time now.
They can expect to meet people such as Amir Shojaei, an Iranian people-smuggler based in Indonesia.

A NEW campaign to keep an Adelaide Hills asylum detention centre open has been backed by one of the state's leading church groups.

Senior leaders from the Uniting Church have publicly supported a community fight to save the Inverbrackie detention centre, near Woodside, which has been earmarked for closure.

But the issue provoked an extraordinary row during an interview on ABC radio between the Uniting Church and the local Liberal member Jamie Briggs.
Mr Briggs, who has been appointed to Tony Abbott's ministry, accused Rev Prof Andrew Dutney, the President of the Uniting Church in Australia, of being a liar over his claims the government believes the centre is too "nice".

The new Federal Coalition government earlier this year flagged that it would shut the multi-million dollar centre, located 37km east of Adelaide, if it won the election.

Supporters and the Uniting Church argue that while they did not support mandatory detention, the centre was considered "humane" and its economic impact too great to close.

IMMIGRATION Minister Scott Morrison has issued a stern warning to refugees escaping the Syrian crisis - if they try to come to Australia by boat they will not be welcome.
Mr Morrison this morning said there would be "no sympathy" given to boat people, regardless of their country of origin.
His comments come in the wake of the latest boat tragedy in which at least 31 people, mostly children, drowned off the coast of Indonesia with many more still missing.
'WE ARE BOTH VICTIMS OF SMUGGLERS' (http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/national-news/tony-abbott-welcomed-to-indonesia-by-president-susilo-bambang-yudhoyono/story-fncynjr2-1226730258957)
News Corp Australia this morning revealed among the dead were a group of Lebanese refugees lured to Australia on fake Syrian passports.
The families from an impoverished area of Lebanon were promised a safe "ship" to Australia via the fake identification.
Mr Morrison said the boat disaster was a tragedy but that the Australian government would not refrain from its hard line approach.
"People who are going to try and use the Syrian conflict, which is a dreadful and horrible tragedy that is unfolding before us there, as some sort of cover to come to Australia for economic migration - we are just not going to cop it," he told 2GB Sydney radio host Ray Hadley.

THE Abbott Government is playing down reports that people smugglers are ferrying asylum seekers in locked shipping containters to bypass tough deterrent policies.
Senior Customs sources have also questioned the reports suggesting asylum seekers are being offered a ticket to Australia via industrial ports such as Port Botany, Geelong or Fremantle.
With the Government's hardline approach on asylum seekers causing a slowdown in boat arrivals, people smugglers are reportedly raising the container option as a means of getting around tougher immigration policies.

INDONESIA and Australia were locked in a stand-off after Jakarta said it would not accept any people on board a boat rescued by an Australian vessel.
The flare-up in tensions came with relations between the two neighbours already under pressure following reports that the Australian embassy in Jakarta carried out surveillance as part of a US-led spying network.
Lieutenant General Angus Campbell, commander of Canberra's military-led effort to stop people-smuggling boats arriving, said an Australian boat had answered a call for assistance yesterday.
"Australia has coordinated its efforts with Indonesian authorities in relation to a vessel that first requested assistance approximately 43 nautical miles south of Java in Indonesia's search and rescue region,'' Campbell told reporters in Sydney.
"I am advised that all people have been accounted for and in line with standard practice I will not comment further on this or other on-water issues.''
Under Australia's new conservative government, asylum-seekers arriving by unauthorised boats face the prospect of their vessels being turned back to Indonesia, from where many of them embark, if it is safe to do so.
But the policy has angered Indonesian officials, who warn it could breach their country's sovereignty and today Jakarta said it would not accept those on board the boat helped by the Australians.

Alright! so The muds on the boat are sinking in Indonesian waters, they call "water cab Australia" to assist. Australia doesn't feel obligated to and neither does Indonesia.. But Australia goes into the Indonesian waters to assist and bring them to Australian turf?

TONY Abbott's government capitulated to Indonesia on Friday night, ordering a Customs boat with up to 63 refugees on board to go to Christmas Island.

A refugee source in Indonesia contacted Fairfax Media early on Saturday to say the boat had reached the Australian territory on Friday night after immigration minister Scott Morrison failed to convince Indonesia to accept their return.

{SNIP}

The source said the people on board were from Pakistan and Afghanistan, and had been organised by people smugglers called Muzahir and Sher Ali.

{SNIP}

The refugee source said people smugglers in West Java were talking about sending another boat within three days, or up to a week. About 30 people had already paid money to a trusted third party for the voyage, he said. [more ... This shows how far the United Nations has its claws hooked into our formerly White sovereign nations. Pre UN, a pissy little primitive country like Indonesia would never have been able to stand over Australia. What instead would have happened is that the Australian Navy would have treated the people smugglers and their illegal alien/back door immigrants as pirates and ordered them to abandon ship and then blown their boat out of the water. Then they would have taken the crew to the nearest Indo land and handed them over to the authorities at gun point. If the Indos jacked up, they then would have changed tactics, towing the boats into an Indo harbour, machine gunning them below the waterline and leaving the pirates to their fate. If the Indos interfered and tried to put a stop to it, they two would have been blown out of the water.

Pirates have no rights. If the Indos persist on defending these pirates, then the pirates are in fact Privateers working for the Indo government and their Muslim passengers are enemy combatants to be used against the Australian nation and people, and nothing short of open warfare will put a stop to this unwanted invasion of our sovereign shores.

A BOAT carrying asylum seekers has been intercepted on its way into Darwin.
The boat was intercepted overnight on Monday and passengers were reportedly transported to Blaydin Point Detention Centre.
DASSAN spokeswoman Emma Murphy said there was little information available about the incident.
"We can't even find out if there were women and children on board but we are assuming there were because Blaydin Point is a family detention centre," Ms Murphy said.
"We don't know where the boat came from or how far out of Darwin it was when intercepted."
The lack of information is partly a result of a government enforced news blackout on boat arrivals with weekly briefings to replace daily notifications when asylum seekers arrive.  Immigration Minister Scott Morrison launched Operation Sovereign Borders after seeking the advice from the three-star general Lieutenant-General Angus Campbell earlier this year.
Under previous governments, media outlets were automatically notified when boats were intercepted or were in distress - sometimes multiple times a day.
Opposition immigration spokesman Tony Burke accused the Abbott Government of a culture of secrecy.

So why isn't "phoney Tony" making good of his election promise to get rid of the muds?

THREE Indonesian navy officers have been arrested for alleged involvement in a people-smuggling operation that was set to send a boat of more than 100 asylum seekers to Australia.
The development comes amid a backlash over recent spying allegations, with Indonesia threatening to withdraw co-operation with Australia on various fronts, including joint efforts to stem the flow of asylum-seeker boats to Christmas Island.
The officers were arrested on Tuesday while transporting 106 Rohingya, including 20 children, to a beach in West Java.
``They have been given to Bandung naval military police,'' Indonesian Army Police Detachment Commander Lieutenant Colonel Suparno said.
It's understood the asylum seekers, all from Myanmar, were transported from Bogor south of the Indonesian capital Jakarta to Cipangikis Beach near the village of Sancang.
The group was being transported in tour buses and escorted under escort by the navy officers.
Six Indonesian civilians were also arrested, including a man identified as Asep who police said was acting as agent for the people-smuggling syndicate that organised the venture.

INDONESIAN authorities say they may let people smugglers pass through their waters to reach Christmas Island as diplomatic tensions rise.
Addressing local media at a press conference earlier this evening, Indonesian police chief General Sutarman said his officers wouldn't prevent asylum seekers on boats from reaching Australia.
"We must crackdown on any law violations in the country. But if a person has a purpose to go there (Christmas Island), it does not come under our authority. We no longer have cooperation," he is said in a report from The Jakarta Post (http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2013/11/25/boat-people-may-be-allowed-pass-ri-waters.html).
His comments came after he was asked about President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's suspension of co-operation with Canberra over people smuggling in the wake of the spy scandal.
His words appear to contradict Immigration Minister Scott Morrison's earlier assurances that the two countries were still working together on this issue, despite the diplomatic row that broke out a week ago.
"Operational-level dialogue has continued the whole way through,'' he told ABC Radio on Monday.
While there may be a diplomatic stand-off, cooperative and productive contact was ongoing between "operational-level people who are doing things on a daily basis''.
People smuggling remained a crime in Indonesia and authorities there continued to combat the practice, Mr Morrison said.
"(Indonesian) Immigration officials have said they've had no direction to cease what they are already doing in terms of operating under their own laws.''

THE first suspected asylum seeker boat of 2014 has been intercepted north-west of Darwin, just days after the Federal Government talked up the results of its "stop the boats" campaign.

Navy ships intercepted the vessel about eight nautical miles off Cape Van Diemen, the northernmost tip of Melville Island.

Most of them were men and believed to be from South Asian, Middle Eastern and African origin. Their boat was being escorted in a westerly direction yesterday afternoon by three Navy vessels.

Four navy personnel had also boarded the ship.

As per Coalition protocol, Defence and Customs were tight-lipped and refused to disclose any information about the arrival, instead referring queries to Immigration Minister Scott Morrison.

Asylum seekers trying to reach Australia have claimed that members of the Australian navy subjected them to verbal and physical mistreatment as their boat was towed back to Indonesia.

One of the migrants, Yousif Ibrahim from Sudan, said they were handcuffed, called insulting names, and one was beaten with shoes before and during their voyage back to Indonesia, where they arrived Monday.

The 28-year-old also said four people were left with burn marks on their hands when they were forced to hold on to a hot pipe on their boat as punishment for wanting to go to the toilet.

'We asked for water, they didn't want to give us. They called us inhuman words, like illegal refugees, monkeys from Africa,' he told AFP.
;D :'( ;D :'(

Another asylum seeker speaking to local media made similar claims. Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison refused to comment on the claims but insisted that Australian personnel act with the 'highest levels of professionalism'.

Ibrahim was among 45 immigrants, mostly from Somalia and Sudan, who set off from Indonesia, a major transit point for would-be refugees, to make the treacherous sea crossing to Australia last month.

But they were picked up on an island in Australian waters by officers from three Australian navy vessels and towed back to Indonesian waters, he said, as part of Canberra's hardline border protection policies.

It was the first reported instance that the Australian navy has turned a boat back without informing Indonesian authorities, and prompted fresh anger in Jakarta at Canberra's policies.

THE Federal Government says no shots have been fired at any time during Operation Sovereign Borders.

An Indonesian local police commissioner from southern Java, who did not want to be named, told Fairfax Media that villagers plucked a number of asylum seekers from the water on January 8 after their boat was turned back by Australian authorities.

After speaking to those on board the boat, the officer said the navy had "shot into the air just to scare them".

"The boat hadn't reached Australia - they were still at sea but they said they could already see Christmas Island,'' the officer said.

"But they said the Australian navy then drove them away and escorted them until they entered Indonesian waters again.''

The boat had been carrying 25 people - including four children - from Bangladesh and Myanmar and two Indonesian crew.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told AAP today he would not comment on the specific allegation.

"(But) I can confirm that no shots have been fired at any time by any persons involved in Operation Sovereign Borders since the operation commenced,'' Mr Morrison said in a statement.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said the government should provide more detail.

"The possibility of shots being fired is really alarming," she told ABC radio.

The only alarming thing about it is they didn't aim the guns firing the shots at the intended targets!

Australia has for the first time used one of its new lifeboats to send a group of 56 asylum seekers back to Indonesia in a move that is likely to plunge the bilateral relationship to a new low.

Fairfax Media has interviewed a large group of would-be refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh who scuttled their wooden vessel six days ago in an attempt to avoid being pushed back to Indonesia.

Instead they were picked up by an Australian Navy vessel, HMAS Stuart, and kept overnight before being transferred to a Customs and Border Protection vessel.
The men said they were tricked into thinking they were going to be taken to Christmas Island.
But they were put on a small, bright orange lifeboat-style vessel close to the Indonesian shore, with only enough fuel to return there.

;) ;D 8) ABOUT TIME WE TRICKED THE DIRTY TRICKSTERS RIGHT BACK!

THREE asylum seekers escaped a Western Australia detention centre in 45 seconds last week, exposing major security flaws at the facility, a leaked report has revealed.

The January 12 breakout was the third escape from the Yongah Hill Detention Centre in five months and an embarrassment for Serco, which manages Australia's detention centres and WA's prisoner transport system.

Documents reveal security weaknesses including asylum-seeker access to the internet for maps, to book plane tickets and organise getaway cars through social media.

Detainees had also become more confident as a result of the number of recent escapes and the lack of penalties, while the voltage on the 3.2-metre electric fence at Yongah Hill was not strong enough to shock escapees and was easy to climb.

A Serco insider described the entire system as "dysfunctional" and said he was speaking out against "incompetence".

"There is no training given and everything is about money," he told The Sunday Times newspaper.

"Every time we have these incidents the main effort isn't improving, but more so passing the buck and looking for someone to blame."

Two of the Vietnamese detainees from the January 12 breakout have been caught, but the third remains on the run.

A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said recommendations made by Serco following any escape incident were considered and implemented if appropriate.

"There are service standards in place with regard to performance against the department's contract with its detention service provider, Serco, and compliance with these standards is regularly reviewed," she told AAP.

"The number of HIV notifications was higher than estimated mainly due to cases being diagnosed from newly introduced screening for people arriving by boat without a visa," the report said. ::)

The number of detected cases has increased fivefold from just six notifications in 2010-11. :-\

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison outlined testing, education and prevention measures aimed at curbing the spread of the blood-borne virus within detention centres. But concerns about the standard of health care within immigration detention persist.

Darwin-based advocacy group DASSAN said yesterday that a woman attempted suicide at Blaydin Point on December 29.

DASSAN spokeswoman Emma Murphy said parents had told the group the environment was having a marked effect on their children.

"There are no maternal and child health nurses working inside detention for these women," she said.

The Australian Medical Association last year raised concern about the level of primary healthcare in detention facilities, based on a Medical Journal of Australia audit of the Royal Darwin Hospital emergency department.

The audit found that half the immigration detainees in Darwin attended the emergency department at least once in 2011.

A statement released by Mr Morrison's office said HIV testing for newly arrive asylum seekers was introduced in August 2012 in consultation with sexual health groups.

Standard HIV testing assists identifying acute illness and chronic disease requiring immediate or ongoing medical care," Mr Morrison said. "All detainees are provided with pre and post-test counselling."

The Government said condoms are provided free of charge in detention.

"The detention health services provider also provides a range of health education programs to people in immigration detention," Mr Morrison's statement said.

An asylum seeker with a fractured skull has been sent to an unnamed Australian hospital.

Another who was shot in the buttocks has been transferred to Port Moresby for treatment, and three more injured men will follow.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison faced media twice on Tuesday to dispel ``wild stories'' circulating.

``This is a tragedy but this was a very dangerous situation where people decide to protest in a very violent way and to take themselves outside the centre and place themselves at great risk,'' Mr Morrison said.

``The tension is not a surprise and the tension will remain because of the nature of where people are and where they don't want to be.''

A series of rolling protests started a few weeks ago with mostly peaceful demonstrations and culminated in the violence of the past two nights, Mr Morrison said.

``If you behave in an unruly way and in a disorderly way then you subject yourself to the response of law enforcement,'' he said.

PNG authorities are investigating the death, while Australia Immigration Department secretary Martin Bowles will also conduct a full review into the incident.

The PNG government said the individual was an Iranian who died in hospital from head injuries.

Mr Morrison hosed down claims that PNG police fired shots directly at asylum seekers, although he confirmed reports of gunfire at 11.20pm on Monday and 1am on Tuesday.

He could not confirm reports on the ground that local people had been involved in the fight and had been possibly armed with machetes.

Detention security provider G4S said asylum seekers broke through the perimeter fence after protesting for two days and rejected claims that locals had broken into the facility and attacked the residents.

``Claims that the transferees breached the fence following internal attacks on them by local residents are unfounded,'' it said in a statement.

``A number of transferees were injured after they breached the perimeter fence and the matter became a law enforcement issue for PNG authorities.''

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and his PNG counterpart Peter O'Neill discussed the incident on Tuesday.

Mr O'Neill said preliminary investigations suggest less than 50 per cent of the 1400 asylum seekers were involved and sent a delegation to Manus Island to investigate the break-out.

``The situation at the centre now appears stable and under control,'' Mr O'Neill said on Tuesday afternoon.

He reassured Mr Abbott his government is committed to the resettlement program.

Australian Greens leader Christine Milne is demanding the detention centre be immediately closed, describing the facility as a gulag.

``Ministerial responsibility has to mean something and Scott Morrison has to stop hiding,'' Ms Milne said.

The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) said the death and injuries is an ``appalling tragedy and a failure of Australian government policy.''

Council chief executive officer Paul Power called on the government to abandon offshore processing and resume prompt processing of refugee claims while asylum seekers are in the community.

KEVIN Rudd has admitted the hard-line asylum seeker policy Labor implemented in mid-2013 was "not a perfect answer'' but says his government was facing a practical, moral and political dilemma.

The now retired Mr Rudd delivered a lecture titled "On Politics'' at Oxford University last night.

The former prime minister urged 300 students who he said would become future world leaders to meet five challenges.

He asked them to preserve peace, fight for liberty, work for inclusive capitalism, face the rise of China and take seriously the "gargantuan challenge'' of climate change.

A student subsequently asked if his policy of turning away asylum seekers was consistent with his advice to always pursue peace and liberty.

As prime minister in July 2013, Mr Rudd unveiled his so-called PNG solution.

Under the policy, continued by Tony Abbott's government, Australia no longer accepts any asylum seekers arriving by boat and instead sends them to PNG for processing and possible resettlement.

Mr Rudd acknowledged the policy was controversial but said it was implemented in the context of 12 million refugees languishing in camps around the world, with another 40 million people internally displaced.

He insisted Australia was the third most generous country when it came to resettling UNHCR refugees behind the United States and Canada.

Mr Rudd said "a large slice'' of people arriving by boat weren't genuine asylum seekers.

"Where it got to by the end of 2013 was the number of folks coming by boat was overwhelming the whole (Australian) refugee intake,'' he said at the prestigious Oxford Union.

'The lesson that sent out to people smugglers was 'You come by boat, we'll get you there quickly (but) if you stay in a camp somewhere around the world, in some hellhole, you're never going to get anywhere'.''

Mr Rudd said Labor was facing a "practical, moral and political dilemma''.

"It's not a perfect answer,'' he admitted of the ALP policy, before adding all the facts had to be considered before judging if it was right or wrong. :o ??? :o ???

TAXPAYERS will save $25 million a year after the Abbott government today scraps free immigration assistance to asylum seekers.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison last night said Australia's protection obligations did not extend to providing free immigration help to those who arrived in Australia illegally. He said, as promised before the election, that from today, people who arrived illegally by boat or air would no longer be helped through the Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme.

But he said the withdrawal of the taxpayer help would not prevent people receiving legal assistance, saying those who wished to provide immigration advice and application assistance pro bono were free to do so.

The government continues to roll out its Operation Sovereign Borders suite of policies after notching at the weekend 100 days without a successful people smuggling venture making it to Australia. The government expects the withdrawal of the free assistance will save the budget $100 million over four years.

''If people choose to violate how Australia chooses to run our refugee and humanitarian program, they should not presume upon the support and assistance that is provided to those who seek to come the right way, and they should certainly not receive additional assistance, as they did under the previous government,'' Mr Morrison said.

''Services that have commenced will be completed, but the IAAAS will not continue for any additional part of the process that would incur an additional fee.''

At least some good news! ;)

AUSTRALIAN Greens senator Scott Ludlam has given the New Zealand Green Party's annual conference a grim account of life in his country under Tony Abbott's government.

"I didn't come here for sympathy, but things are in a pretty bad way," Senator Ludlam said.

"Unfortunately, what you're hearing about Australia in the media is true."

The Western Australia Greens senator was guest speaker at the conference on Saturday, and was introduced as a hero.

He told 160 delegates the Australian government had cancelled funding for public transport projects, gutted funding for Aboriginal services and abandoned all the progress that had been made to achieve a clean energy economy.

"Immigration policy is toxic," he said.

"There are huge housing problems in Australia - and the government's answer to that is to blame families from Sri Lanka."

Senator Ludlam said the Australian Labor Party was floundering and divided, and he had some advice for his New Zealand brethren: "Try to pick a coalition partner that isn't entirely dysfunctional."

Well try and find some Greens that aren't dysfunctional!  they sure messed Australia up with Labor. Besides they are pro homo, have a fag as a leader!
Australia does have a housing problem and .. most people don't want boaties nicking our houses up!

A GROUP of 157 asylum seekers detained at sea for weeks on a Customs ship has landed at Cocos Island and could arrive on the Australian mainland within hours, refugee advocates say.

THE Refugee Action Coalition says the asylum seekers were seen disembarking at 2pm (AEST) on Sunday.
They were headed to the island's airport from where they will be flown to Curtin detention centre in Western Australia.
"There's no schedule, but given the lack of facilities on Cocos Island, they will probably try and get them on a plane soon - not everybody by today, but most," spokesman Ian Rintoul told AAP.
The federal government is not confirming the movements.
The group of 157, including children, has been detained at sea since their boat was intercepted 27km from Christmas Island on July 7.
After arriving at Curtin, they will undergo identity checks by Indian consular officials.
India has agreed to take back its citizens and will consider taking Sri Lankan nationals who are Indian residents.
Australian Greens say the group has a legal right to apply for asylum in Australia.
Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young is travelling to Curtin in the next few days to inquire on the children's welfare and to brief the asylum seekers of their rights.
"Just because (Prime Minister) Tony Abbott wants to trade in their lives, doesn't make it legal," she told reporters in Adelaide on Sunday.
Mr Abbott has said the handling of the asylum seekers is not illegal and in accordance with Australia's international obligations.
But he stressed they could never call Australia home because they did not come the "right way".
The decision to bring the group to land pre-empts a High Court challenge against their detention at sea.

ASYLUM seekers are being given the same generic birthday dates as the Federal Government redetermines their ages, it has been claimed.

The Sunday Mail has been told up to 50 Afghan asylum seekers with a range of ages were all given the same birthday – the same day, the same month, the same year.

After fleeing Pakistan, where he had lived since he was tiny, Ali arrived on Christmas Island with about 50 other Afghan Hazaras in 2012. The Department took them in small groups to interview them and work out how old they were.

Ali says they were peppered with confusing questions and that the questioner seemed to think that because he'd had a job in Pakistan – he worked from a young age to support his mum and sisters – he must be older than he was saying.

"They told me you have to sign this paper that you are over 18. They were so angry, I was so afraid," he said.

He signed the paper, which made him an adult. He was 16, he says.

He said many of the others he arrived with were given the same birthday.

It's not having a different age that bothers him, but that being an adult means he can't go to school, and that he is not allowed to work either, so he can't help his mum and siblings in Pakistan.

"I want to go to school, to do something, but I'm not allowed," he told the Sunday Mail.

"If I got a chance, I'd study. I wouldn't let anyone down."

He points out that one of the reasons his people have fled the Taliban is that they won't let people go to school. Asked how he felt, he said:

"You are eating your own self from the inside," he said.

"You are not a human being. You ask 'am I a human, or not?'."

A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said the Government was continuing the previous Government's policy, and that people are treated as minors until a different finding is made.

"All age determination interviews are conducted in the presence of an Independent Observer whose role it is to ensure the health and wellbeing of the individual," she said.

Greens immigration spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young said she thought the Government reclassified people's ages so they could reduce their support or send them to adult detention centres.

Meanwhile, at least three families living at Inverbrackie are petrified they are about to be sent to Christmas Island.

Senator Hanson-Young this week visited Inverbrackie, and she told the Sunday Mail that there are at least three Australian-born babies there who are now six weeks old. Pregnant mothers are brought to the mainland to give birth then sent back when their babies are old enough.

The Human Rights Commission said this week that all the children on Christmas Island are sick.

THE Federal Government's policy of reducing its refugee intake and turning back asylum seeker boats has gutted Darwin's sole provider of humanitarian settlement services.

In the past week, a substantial portion of its experienced team have been made redundant.

At its peak in 2010-11, the Melaleuca Refugee Centre provided settlement support for 165 refugees, most of whom were settled in Darwin because of cultural or family links to the area. Melaleuca Refugee Centre director Caz Coleman said the Immigration Department was only planning to settle 60 refugees in the Darwin area this financial year, half the number than during the previous 12 months.

The centre receives federal funding for each refugee it provides settlement services to, meaning the reduction in its quota of refugees has resulted in a substantial funding cut, forcing the redundancies.

Ms Coleman said that long-term, the staff cuts would hurt both the centre and the Darwin refugee community. "Small service providers feel it the worst when they get a big (funding) cut," she said.

She said the refugee centre had a strong track record of providing social work, housing assistance and casework to the Darwin refugee community.

"All the staff we've lost have been highly skilled and experienced in their area of work," she said.

"A number of politicians want refugees to be settled in regional areas, and if that does end up happening, it will be very hard for us to scale out services back up again."

Former deputy chief minister Dave Tollner, who recently told the NT News he plans to turn his attention towards refugee advocacy, said the Federal Government should be looking to increase, rather than decrease, the number of refugees in the Territory.

"In my view this is exactly the wrong time for the Federal Government to be changing the quotas (of refugees)," he said. "We've still got shortages of workers. Darwin is the best place to have refugees, with such a diverse and multicultural population."

Former refugee Carine Kapiamba, who arrived in Darwin in 2008 after fleeing a war-torn Congo, said the centre had been crucial to her family's settlement in Australia, and that the cuts were concerning.

"Being a refugee is not easy, it's a lot to overcome," she said.

:'( Ah ! Boo HOO! the whole refugee industry is falling to bits now ! they seem to make it sound like it is sad the unwelcome invaders aren't coming anymore! What the hell is wrong with them? BLOODY FANTASTIC THEY AREN'T SHOWING UP! GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD RUBBISH!

TWO heavily pregnant women who were transported from Nauru to give birth in Darwin have been sitting on a bus with their families at Wickham Point Detention Centre for over 40 hours and refuse to get off.

Refugee advocate Ian Rintoul said the women and their families were prepared to wait "as long as it takes" to be returned to Nauru.

"They're not getting off," Mr Rintoul told the NT News.

Mr Rintoul said the Iranian families, including a 10-year-old boy, had been tricked into coming to Darwin.

Before they left Nauru, the families were told that they would be accommodated in the community in Darwin," Mr Rintoul said.

"But on arrival were told they would be taken to detention at Wickham Point.

"Both women are around eight months pregnant.

"One family, Adnan and his wife, Maryam travelled with their 10 year old son, Amir.

"The other couple, Hossein and his wife, is Iranian Kurdish."

Mr Rintoul said the young boy was believed to have got off the bus as an "arrangement of convenience" around 2pm today.

"The boy ... has been detained," Mr Rintoul said.

"He has been allowed to go into Bladin Detention (Centre) but the family is still on the bus."

Mr Rintoul said both families had been "living freely" in detention on Nauru for about 15 months "since being found to be refugees".

"The families have told Immigration officers they would rather take the risk and be sent back to Nauru than spend one night in detention," Mr Rintoul said.

"The families have offered to pay for their own motel accommodation, rather than be sent to detention.

"They are recognised refugees and should be afforded every protection, leave aside the unnecessary stress and anxiety that being inflicted on the pregnant women."

Mr Rintoul said the Refugee Action Coalition was "calling on Immigration to immediately arrange community accommodation for the families".

"They could be accommodated in the community in an instant," Mr Rintoul said.

"Adnan has a brother living in Melbourne that is more than willing to support and accommodate them."

A spokesman for Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said the Department and detention service provider was "continuing to engage proactively and sensitively with the families to resolve the situation".

"The Minister has been advised the transferees were not informed they would be placed in the community but would be housed at the Wickham Point alternative place of detention (APOD)," the spokesman said.

"The transferees are receiving care appropriate to their condition."

Mr Rintoul said the incident was "just one more example of the cruelty and bureaucratic madness of Morrison's refugee policy".

"The treatment of all the asylum seekers and refugees on Nauru has recently drawn international

condemnation from the UN Committee of Torture," Mr Rintoul said.

Bastards should shut up and get what they are given! What are they worried about? Giving birth in detention meaning their new born kids aren't Australians?

THE two pregnant women who say they were tricked into coming to Darwin from Nauru have been detained by Immigration after a three day standoff on-board a bus parked at Wickham Point Detention Centre.

Refugee Action Coalition spokesman Ian Rintoul said the Iranian women were told they were coming to Darwin with their husbands, and a 10-year-old boy, to live in the community while waiting to give birth.

He said the families were instead driven directly to Wickham Point Detention Centre and had refused to get off the bus since arriving on Saturday at 10pm.

"The young boy and his father have been going between Bladin Detention and the bus since yesterday as an arrangement of convenience," Mr Rintoul said.

"There was no point keeping the child on the bus."

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said all of those on the bus were "now accommodated in immigration detention facilities in Darwin".

"Two IHMS midwives have been monitoring the women overnight," Mr Morrison said on Tuesday morning.

"Staff continue to engage with the individuals and provide appropriate services and support.

"The women and their families were temporarily transferred to Australia for medical purposes. "The families hold valid Nauruan visas and have been settled in that country. They do not hold an Australian visa.

"The women have been placed in the facility best suited to their medical needs. Other family members have been accommodated voluntarily, according to their preference."

Mr Rintoul slammed the Minister, describing his comments as "far-fetched".

"He would say that," Mr Rintoul said.

"It's pretty far-fetched that the refugees would come to Darwin and tell lies so they could stay stuck on a bus for days.

"They should be able to reside in any house or hotel room — which they have offered to provide for themselves — as they were first promised they would be able to."

The families will reportedly be returned to Nauru once the women have given birth to their newborns.

PETER Dutton has delivered asylum seekers on Manus Island a "clear, strong, determined" message: despite your hunger striking you will never be settled in Australia.

Following days of protest and incidents of self-harm, the new Immigration Minister insisted his "resolve" is the same as Scott Morrison's.

"Our resolve will not be swayed one bit by a change in behaviour," he said, addressing reporters on the Gold Coast.
My message today is very clear, to the transferrees on Manus and in other facilities ... whilst there has been a change of Minister, the absolute resolve of me as the new Minister and of the government is to make sure that for those transferrees, they will never arrive in Australia.

"They will never be settled in Australia."

Mr Dutton said he was "disturbed" by reports of the actions of some within the centre — including cases of self harm.

One asylum seeker is believed to have swallowed razor blades, others are said to have sewn their lips together.

"I want to say to people who are the transferrees ... that regardless of what you might be told by people within the centre, or advocates or people in the broader community, that somehow with a change of minister, that the situation has changed ... or the way in which in government will deal with these matters, is absolutely wrong."

The Minister said the situation in the facility, where a riot last year saw the death of Reza Berati, was "volatile".

"There is support being provided to those who are engaged in self-harm and the government will make sure that we continue to provide the support," he said.

"We're certainly not swaying in our support one bit, we are rock solid behind the PNG government and the work they're doing in the Manus regional centre that hasn't changed."

Mr Dutton said to advocates and "ringleaders" in the centre encouraging misbehaviour, "that information is dead wrong, it is causing trouble."

Good somebody is robust in their ways here! Like? Who wants these queue jumpers? You want wierdos going around stitching their lips  up and eating razors?

The Bladin Immigration Detention Centre will be shut down in April, the Federal Government has pledged.

The so-called "alternative place of detention" facility will be the eleventh closed by the Coalition Government in just over a year. Estimates indicate shuttering the building will save taxpayers $18 million a year in lease costs.

Immigration and Border Protection Minister Peter Dutton said Bladin is no longer needed to hold illegal immigrants.

"The site was opened by the Labor Government in June 2013 after the border failures, which saw a massive blowout in illegal maritime arrivals," Mr Dutton said.

"The Coalition Government's success in stopping illegal boat arrivals means detention facilities like Bladin can now be shut."

Member for Solomon Natasha Griggs said shuttering the detention centre will benefit the area.

"The closure of Bladin Point is not only a big financial saving to the country but a reduction in pressure on the Top End's hospitals and emergency services," she said.

The building will be used to house FIFO workers for the Inpex project.

The illegal maritime arrivals at the facility now will be transferred to other sites, Mr Dutton said, or moved into the community or released on bridging visas if eligible.

The Department will liaise with key stakeholders and suppliers who have had business arrangements with the Bladin facility, a statement said.

An asylum seeker in detention south of Darwin has reportedly cut her own stomach to avoid being transferred to Nauru.

Several sources told AAP a number of people witnessed the incident at Wickham Point detention centre, south of Darwin, late on

Thursday night before a 3am charter flight to transfer detainees to Nauru and Manus Island.

AAP understands two other women also attempted to harm themselves on Thursday.

Two of the three women were from Iran, and one had been extremely distressed in recent weeks, crying uncontrollably.

The Department of Immigration confirmed on Friday there had been 'a small number of self-harm or attempted self-harm incidents'.

'Those involved are receiving proper and appropriate medical and other support,' it said in a statement.

'It would be inappropriate to go into further detail about the incidents or the individual circumstances of these detainees.'

AAP understands the woman who cut her stomach remains in her room at the centre.

The government remains committed to regional processing and resettlement, and those subject to regional processing would not be resettled in Australia, the department said.

'Antisocial or dangerous behaviour will not prevent people being transferred.'

A spokesman for the Cambodian Secretary of State says Cambodia supported the Abbott government's $40 million refugee resettlement agreement on "humanitarian" grounds and to strengthen ties with Australia.

Phay Siphan told SBS that Australia provided significant assistance to Cambodia and it wanted to do the same.

"Australia is open for Cambodian refugees he said. "We have to pay back something. We don't want to take from Australia."

Under the agreement, refugees on Nauru who volunteer to move to Cambodia will be resettled there by the government. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has agreed to facilitate the resettlements.

Mr Siphan told SBS that the he understood the plight of refugees and welcomed any who chose to come to Cambodia from Nauru.

"I have experience as a refugee," he said. "Hun Sen, [the] prime minister, he has experience as a refugee. We understand how hard it is."

"They are like animals in camp. They have no nationality. They have no right to move; they have no right to do anything."

He said Australia shouldered a huge burden with refugees and was unfairly criticised over its treatment of them.

Well at least these Gooks are good for something! Actually appreciate our aid and assistance unlike bloody Indonesia!

AMBULANCES are straining under the pressure of an increased number of call outs to the Wickham Point Immigration Detention Facility following cuts to services, paramedics say.

The cuts to medical services at the facility means there is no longer 24 hour medical care provided at the centre.

The NT News understands a large amounts of call outs to the centre has previously led to Palmerston to being without an ambulance.

The decision has left paramedics asking if funding for extra ambulances will be made available.

A Darwin paramedic told the NT News the services had "gradually been whittled down".

The paramedic said call outs to the facility were often time consuming.

"Our ambulance service is already strained as it is," the ambo said.

"When we get there there is only security personnel to deal with which means we can't get medical notes from the health service in the detention centre.

"All too often there is no translator available and it can be impossible to find out what their medical history is or what medications the patient is taking."

The paramedic said over a year ago an extra ambulance that was funded to run on a half shift basis was cut and the reason given was that with the detention centre offering 24/7 medical care there was no need to keep it running.

"It would be nice if they gave it back now there is no longer those services," he said.

THE government has vowed it won't bow to emotional blackmail and will send an unsuccessful Iranian asylum seeker home now that his hunger strike has ended.

IMMIGRATION Minister Peter Dutton said Saeed Hassanloo had taken some food and fluids overnight and his hunger strike was over.
He's now accepting medical assistance in a Perth hospital.
Mr Hassanloo, 25, claims he would face persecution in Iran for converting to Christianity.

He has spent four and a half years in immigration detention, refusing food for the last 44 days in protest at his detention and likely forced return.
Mr Dutton said advice to him was that it was actually 35 days.

"The difficulty for me is that if you give yourself in to what is essentially emotional blackmail ... the clear advice from my department is that I would have hundreds or thousands of people go on hunger strikes tomorrow," Mr Dutton told ABC radio on Tuesday.

"We can't allow the boats to start up again which they would do if we settled people that don't have a legitimate claim." Mr Dutton said his department had advised very strongly that Mr Hassanloo's case had been fully examined and his claim for protection could not be substantiated.
The government would now do what it could to assist him return to Iran, though that would depend on medical advice.
"We have provided support to many other people in the past where they have been repatriated back to Iran and other countries," he said.

Greens immigration spokesperson Sarah Hanson-Young called on Mr Dutton to review the man's case.
"The minister can't just shirk responsibility for this," she told reporters in Adelaide. The Refugee Action Coalition said it wanted Mr Hassanloo and all other Iranians held in indefinite detention to be released.

Iranian asylum seekers found not be refugees should go back to Iran, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says. But Iran has been unwilling to accept reluctant returnees, with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to seek to persuade Tehran to change its policy when she visits next week.

More than 10,000 Iranian asylum seekers travelled by boat to Australia in the period 2010-13.Those found not to be refugees have proved unwilling to return, with Australia unable to enforce their departure in the face of the Iranian government reluctance to have them back. That contrasts with large numbers of Sri Lankans involuntarily repatriated.

Some 7000 Iranians remain in the community on bridging visas while others are in immigration detention, many on Manus Island.Mr Abbott said the government was dealing with the Labor legacy of more than 50,000 illegal boat arrivals. He said some would be found to be refugees.

'Some of them won't, and it is important that those found not to be refugees go home and this is where we will be talking to the Iranian government about taking back people who are Iranian citizens because they deserve to be in Iran,' he told reporters in Sydney. 'Those who are not found to be refugees should go back to their home country. If their home country is Iran, that's where they belong.

'Most of the Iranian are unlikely to be granted asylum. Former Labor foreign minister Bob Carr branded them as economic refugees fleeing the impact of western sanctions, not political persecution.Opposition Leader Bill Shorten backed the principle of repatriating those found not be refugees.'We will wait and see what Julie Bishop produces in her talks with Iran.

We want to see the detail,' he told reporters in Melbourne.Mr Shorten said any arrangement needed to be consistent with international obligations, with asylum seekers afforded due process and their claims properly assessed.

'But in the event they are found not to be refugees, then they should be supported to go home as soon as possible.'Greens immigration spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young said this would place the lives of men, women and children at high risk.

'What kind of guarantees will the Australian government get to ensure that people sent back to Iran are looked after and kept safe,' she told reporters in Adelaide.'I fear there's really no guarantees that could be made, and even so you have got to question whether the Australian government cares that much about them.

I hope they all get sent back. Weather the Iranian government likes it or not, we should rent a cargo ship and just drop them all there.

A RIOT that erupted at Wickham Point Wednesday afternoon has turned into a "standoff" between asylum seekers and Serco guards.

Reports from inside the compound are that at least 20 detainees started self harming after learning a family with a young child and a five-month pregnant woman were due to be sent to Nauru in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The riot, which was believed to be contained to the block that houses families, has now spread to involve all four compounds, according to reports from inside the centre.

On Tuesday, three asylum seekers attempted suicide, including the pregnant woman.

Darwin Asylum Seekers Support and Advocacy Network spokesman Ben Pynt said everyone was sitting outside protesting the move.

"They fear further abuse, they fear conditions of detention, lack of water, lack of privacy and just the poor environmental conditions as well and finally they don't want to be at Nauru," he said.

The fence, doors and rubbish bins have been damaged.

NT Police have sent members from the Metropolitan Patrol Group (MPG) and the Dog squad to the detention centre to deal with the issue.

Police can be seen patrolling the fence line and the road into Wickham Point has been blocked off.

Tensions have been building at Wickham Point following cuts to medical services, activities staff and more frequent transfers to offshore detention centres including Nauru and Manus Island.

Tuesday marked the third suicide attempt in three weeks for another woman who fears being sent back to Nauru.

Mr Pynt said he had spoken to the Department of Immigration regarding the woman's mental health and recommended she be transferred to a mental health facility.

The woman is still at Wickham Point.

Also on Tuesday, an elderly woman suffered a suspected heart attack but because it happened after 5pm and the medical centre is longer staffed after hours she had to wait one hour for an ambulance to arrive.

The Department of Immigration and Border Control has not commented on the incident only to take to Twitter to say police were attending and that media reports of a riot were "incorrect" instead calling it a "disturbance".

Self harm is just bollocks emotional blackmail!

A GROUP of pregnant asylum seekers are threatening to burn Wickham Point detention centre down, according to reports from inside the compound.

Earlier this afternoon, a number of asylum seekers had taken to the roof and were threatening to jump.

A family with a three-month old baby had been removed from the compound for transfer earlier today but have now been returned, in what is believed to have been an effort to stop the protests.

It is now believed the family, as well as a pregnant woman, will no longer be transferred.

However there is still a group of asylum seekers due to be transferred tonight.
One of the men due to be transferred has lodged a Human Rights Commission complaint.

An ambulance and three police vehicles have just left the detention centre, heading towards Darwin.

Two visitors, who were scheduled to visit asylum seekers, witnessed a group of 15 police officers and two ambulances at the centre.

The visitors were refused entry.

Federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton refuted that there were plans to send a pregnant asylum seeker to Nauru and that a riot had occured on Wednesday in The Australian today.

More information as it comes.

PARAMEDICS have given emergency medical attention to almost 40 asylum seekers at the Wickham Point detention centre this month alone.

Paramedics say ambulance numbers in Darwin are already well below national standards but an increase in callouts to the detention centre is making the gap wider.

St John NT director of ambulances Michael McKay refused to tell the NT News how long ambulances had spent at the centre in the past two weeks but did confirm paramedics had a larger workload as a result of an increase in callouts to the facility recently.

However, figures obtained from paramedics show in the past four weeks crews have seen 38 patients at the centre and transported 30 of those patients to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

One paramedic said things were getting "ridiculous".

"We can't meet the demand," he said.

"The police have been given extra resources to cope with the added pressure but we haven't."

The paramedic said last week's rioting saw ambulances sent there on standby, meaning crews were called in on overtime to help fill the gap.

A transfer of asylum seekers from Wickham Point to Nauru sparked rioting on Wednesday and Thursday last week. Asylum seeker advocates reported that at least 25 detainees started self harming after learning that a family with a young child and a five-months pregnant woman were due to be sent to Nauru.

Mr McKay referred questions about ambulance callouts to Wickham Point to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, who were unable to provide a response before deadline.

St John chief executive Ross Coburn told the NT News last week that ambulance numbers did not meet the "rule of thumb" of one crew per 20,000 people.

Currently, there is only one crew for every 35,000 people.

Mr Coburn said the service – which was run privately but funded by the NT Government – was in constant negotiations about its resources.

Mr Coburn said most ambulance services around the country were under pressure.

He said the Darwin station had resorted to pulling people from management to backfill when an ambulance was called to the outer Darwin regions.

Great to see the Tax $ at work! Great to see our community suffer because those bloody "free loaders" are taking up our resources.

Who'd want to be an Ambo in the NT? Heaps of them quit due to Coon tantrum problems as it is!

AN Iranian asylum seeker assaulted another detainee over a snide comment and flew into a rage – breaking a window – when authorities left his private documents lying around the detention centre mess hall.

The man faced a maximum penalty of a $20,400 fine or two years in prison for Commonwealth property damage.

Darwin Magistrate Tanya Fong Lim declined to convict him due to the authorities' negligence in allowing his private life to become public among other detainees at Wickham Point detention centre.

"It is not acceptable," she said. "As an immigration detainee you're entitled to privacy and, knowing your situation, authorities ought to have been more careful."

The man, 29 – whose name is suppressed – was scared to hold his son and feared his family would break up when he was diagnosed with hepatitis C just after arriving in Australia in July 2013.

The court heard two of his brothers had died of jaundice and the diagnosis triggered extreme anxiety.

The court heard an "incident" had resulted in a domestic violence order against him.

The Immigration Department cut off the man's contact with his wife and toddler and he was shuffled between Darwin and Christmas Island for months.

He attempted self harm. Defence lawyer Sheetal Balakrishnan said her client was "clearly a man on edge".

"He felt self-hatred at his decision to come to Australia and inadequate because he can't do anything for his family," she said.

"It's a volatile situation he has no control over. He regrets what he has done."

Ms Balakrishnan said he asked Immigration not to bring his son to one visit because "the sun was too hot" but the truth was he found it too painful seeing the boy in the belief his wife wanted a divorce. He was ashamed of the request, revealed in the documents that other detainees had read in the mess hall on November 28, 2014.

The man threw a table and a condiment tray, smashed a window five times with a chair and turned over dining tables.

He headbutted a fire control panel and cracked the plastic. Two days before, he shirtcollared a man in the pool room after the victim told him: "This is Australia, you have to wait your turn."

The man screamed at the victim: "F--- Australia ... you are like a hair on my penis."

Ms Fong Lim told the defendant: "Everybody in detention is under pressure.

"We expect detainees to have empathy for how each other feels."

She convicted him for the assault and imposed a 12- month $1000 good behaviour bond on each offence.

Sounds like a proper gentleman! Who wants this hot headed ,disease infested galoot coming to Australia to be a neighbour!?

Bill Shorten has left the way open for Labor to endorse asylum seeker boat turnbacks, as a former senior Indonesian official slammed the policy.Labor's national conference to be held in Melbourne next month will debate changes to the party's asylum seeker policy.

Mr Shorten said Labor's policy would be compassionate but he was determined to 'make sure that never again do the seaways between Java and Christmas Island become the opportunity for people smugglers to put unsuspecting people into unsafe boats and drown at sea'.

Labor for Refugees convenor Robin Rothfield says turnbacks needlessly put asylum seekers and boat crews in danger.'What it stands to lose is it makes itself out to be a cruel, opportunistic, shameless party which has completely forgotten the values of the party,' he said.
