A RUM thief*thieving boong drunkard slapped a female bartender after she asked him to return a stolen bottle of grog, a court has heard.

Jonathon Lauder, 31, walked behind the bar at the Tennant Creek Hotel, hid the rum bottle under his clothes and started to leave the pub about 1.30pm on July 3 this year.

When the female staff member approached Lauder and asked him to bring the bottle back, he slapped her and ran away.

Lauder was sentenced to two years' jail in the NT Supreme Court for robbery.

Chief Justice Michael Grant described the theft as "clumsy and opportunistic".

"Slapping the hotel employee was inexcusable but it was of a relatively low level in terms of the violence that is sometimes employed in the commission of robberies," he said. "You have displayed a continuing attitude of disobedience of the law.

"Your prior criminal history also shows that you have a dangerous propensity for alcohol-fuelled violence."

Police located Lauder at 3.20pm that day at a house in Tennant Creek. When officers arrived he jumped the fence, but was eventually found and arrested.

He returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.223 per cent.

The court heard the victim was "very apprehensive" to work in the hotel because she was worried she would be assaulted again.

"She ultimately stopped working at the hotel and even to the time of making that statement ... she cannot forget what happened," Chief Justice Grant said.

A non-parole period of 18 months was ordered.

A MAN Boong* who danced naked in front of five children while holding his penis and saying "I'm niggity" has been jailed for a month.A Warlpiri man(COON) 38, pleaded guilty in Alice Springs Local Court this week to behaving offensively in a dwelling house.The court heard the man had two beers in a bar in town, before meeting an indigenous woman.The pair bought four bottles of wine on their way home and consumed them before going into a bedroom of the woman's house around midnight.Five children, aged between two and 11, were watching television in the lounge room, where another man nursed a six-month-old baby.The man then took off his shorts and underwear, leaving him naked, and walked out of the bedroom into the lounge room.

He started to jump around the room waving his hands in the air and saying "I'm niggity, I'm niggity".Prosecutor Andrew Dunne said the man actively drew attention from the children."He then reached down and took hold his penis while he was jumping around," Sergeant Dunne told the court.After one of the children began crying and screaming the man went back into the bedroom and lay under the blankets.Other adults told the man to leave, and he and the woman left the house.

They were located in the Todd River by police the next morning and the man was arrested."When he was questioned, the defendant said he was standing in the doorway (to the bedroom) for some fresh air," Sgt Dunne said.After further questioning he admitted to waving his arms but said he did not touch his penis.

Defence lawyer Michael Penman asked the court to consider dispensation for the man's guilty plea, and stated he had been co-operative with police."He is remorseful for how he behaved on that particular night," Mr Penman said."Thankfully, after the intervention of other adults, he adhered to their directions and left the property as soon as told."(The man) has no excuse and no real reason except that he was severely intoxicated and that impaired his judgment."Justice Daynor Trigg said while the man had no history of sexual crimes, the seriousness of the offence could not be overlooked."There is nothing to suggest you are ordinarily a flasher," Justice Trigg said. "But this sort of behaviour cannot be accepted."

He said it was not normal behaviour and that being drunk was not an excuse, it only provided an explanation."The victims were young children. They don't need to see this sort of behaviour from an adult," Justice Trigg said."Clearly it was a distressing experience for them."The man also pleaded guilty to one charge of engaging in conduct that contravenes a domestic violence order.He was jailed for one month on the offensive behaviour charge, and seven days for the DVO charge.

A YOUTH charged over a brutal southern suburbs attack that left a man with critical head injuries engaged in "appalling" behaviour, a magistrate has said.

Three teenagers, none of whom can be named for legal reasons, faced the Youth Court on Thursday over the assault of a man near Oaklands Park Railway Station on Wednesday.

A fourth girl, 15, of Noarlunga Downs, was dramatically arrested at the Adelaide Central Market on Thursday. She will face court on Friday.

The victim, believed to be aged in his 50s, was taken to the Flinders Medical Centre where he remained in a critical condition last night in an induced coma. He has suffered a possible brain injury.

The court heard one teenager – a 14-year-old boy from Aberfoyle Park – had been released from a four-week sentence in detention at the weekend, just days before the alleged 5.15pm attack.

"You've got an appalling record of past offending, particularly for someone who is only 14," Magistrate Luke Davis said. "You are in way over your head, something serious has happened and you are allegedly involved and there is someone in an induced coma after what has happened. It's appalling that you would be involved in that sort of thing."

The court heard the unnamed victim said something to the boy before the teenager's friend – a 14-year-old boy from Seaford Meadows – punched him, causing him to fall over and hit his head on the footpath.

Prosecutors say the pair, and a girl, 17, from Dover Gardens, had chased the victim for 50m, throwing sticks and stones. The gang have yet to plead to an aggravated assault causing serious harm charge.

An off-duty police officer, who had just exited a train, called for help after finding the victim unconscious near the intersection of Diagonal Way and Crew St, Oaklands Park.

A lawyer for the Aberfoyle Park boy said his client had played a "minimal part" in the incident, and the victim had instead chased the gang.

Mr Davis refused bail over his criminal history, seriousness of the crime and the ongoing police investigation. "You are in over your heard and I've got no confidence you won't get into trouble again," he said.

The trio were remanded to face court next month.

A WOMAN has been attacked by three teens who demanded cash and cigarettes in the car park of Palmerston Shopping Centre.

Two girls, aged 13 and 15, have been arrested but a third 12-year-old girl remains on the run from police.

The 38-year-old woman was walking towards her car on Wednesday afternoon when she was approached by the three girls.
Serious Crime Squad Detective Acting Senior Sergeant David Allan said she was confronted at 3.30pm.

"The offenders allegedly demanded cigarettes and money. When the victim said she didn't have any, the offenders demanded the victim's car keys, before grabbing her by the hair and assaulting her," he said.

"Two of the offenders were detained by security until police arrived. A third escaped, and remains outstanding."

This one has the hallmarks of boongs. Palmerston, teens, what they demanded!

Frenchman fatally stabbed in front of wife at remote Northern Territory rest stop

Extract: A French woman is in shock after witnessing her husband being stabbed to death by a stranger at a remote Northern Territory roadside rest stop.

9NEWS understands a man, Pande Veleski, from Mill Park in Victoria, was arrested over the allegedly unprovoked attack, which happened about 5.30pm yesterday near the town of Aileron, 135km north of Alice Springs.

"It is believed that two French tourists, being husband and wife, were at a rest stop 30km south of the Aileron Roadhouse on the Stuart Highway when they were approached by an unknown man," Detective Superintendent Travis Wurst said.

"The man has allegedly then stabbed the male tourist to the neck, in an unprovoked attack. The male passed away at the scene."

Police said the alleged attacker fled the scene in a car, and ran into bushland when he was stopped by police near Ti Tree Aboriginal Community.

A crime scene is expected to remain in place for the rest of today, and police will interview witnesses.

Police: "Anyone who was on the south Stuart Highway between Ti Tree and Alice Springs who may have seen a silver Hyundai hatchback with a Victorian registration who may have been acting suspiciously there or in any other locations, we would like to hear from them."

Police have urged anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
