"UNWELCOMING" and "discriminatory" Australia Day T-shirts on sale in Darwin have disappointed the local multicultural community.
Two shirts - one made in Bangladesh and saying "This is Australia. We eat meat, drink beer, and speak f**king English", and another Aussie-made one saying "If you don't love it, leave" - are being offered as an "Australia Day special" sale for $16.50 each in Darwin's Smith St Mall.

The shop owner was out of the country at time of writing.

A staff member attempted to stop this photo being taken, but only because of "copyright" issues.

NT Multicultural Council program manager Ron Mitchell, when contacted by the Sunday Territorian, said: "I think it's being discriminatory and not welcoming and we've to be conscious of people's values.

"You really have to be accepting that people have different values in society."

Large nationwide supermarkets Aldi and BigW withdrew from sale similar branded T-shirts last week.

Mr Mitchell said he was disappointed such slogans may undo the work of multicultural groups in the Territory.

He said ethnic groups were working hard to present performance and cuisine event OzFusion on Australia Day which "is designed to counteract those widely held stereotypes".

"The message is: we're all in this together; we're not judging each other," he said.

"That's what I like about Darwin - we don't judge people; we give them a fair go.

"(The T-shirts) sound like a message narrow and not accepting of multicultural Australia. I don't think something like that is acceptable in Darwin, of all places."
The Price is Reich!
