Neo-Nazis to racist record labels: Mapping 20 years of Lehigh Valley hate group activity

From Neo-Nazis and the KKK to racist record labels and publishers, some two dozen hate groups have reportedly been active in and around the Lehigh Valley at various times over the last 20 years.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a legal advocacy firm based in Alabama, has for decades tracked a broad range of supremacists, skinheads and somewhat less-overt hate groups nationwide, annually publishing a "hate map" showing cities and states where they were reportedly active in the prior year.

The law center recently released its 2020 hate map identifying 838 hate groups operating nationwide, a second-straight year of decline from the high of 1,020 in 2018, possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lehighvalleylive.com looked at 20 years' worth of hate group activity in our area and how it has changed.

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated, and scorned.
When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
Mark Twain.
